High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1174: Chapter 236 Warlock Witch

”Who exactly is that cat?”

”How would I know.”

”From your reaction, you clearly recognized who it was.”

”Illusion, that’s all in your mind.”

In the North District of Beta Town, on Gu Diao Street, inside the Sakura Pub.

Korma stood behind the bar, gripping a red wine bottle in her hand, her gaze intense as she stared at the Gypsy witch in front of her, insisting, ”It’s definitely not an illusion... My instincts are always very accurate!”

She looked as if she desperately wanted to shove the wine bottle into Elena’s mouth and pry it open.

Elena had already removed the mask from her face and wasn’t looking at Korma; instead, she was turned sideways, looking towards the pub door and the large pieces of stained glass, following the direction in which the black cat had departed, a hint of a smile on her lips.

The black cat had been gone for some time, yet she remained in this position without moving.

Instead of holding the usual Tarot Cards in her hand, she was playing with a delicately crafted Fu Bullet, with a hint of blood at the bullet’s head, which added an air of lethality to it.

After hearing Korma’s persistent questioning, the Gypsy witch finally turned her head to look at her companion and heaved a slight sigh.

”You said it yourself, it’s just a feeling,” she said with a hint of helplessness in her voice. ”If feelings were reliable, The Gypsy Witch Coven wouldn’t have fallen to this state... It’s precisely because we relied too much on intuition, rather than theory, that Gypsy witchcraft has continuously fallen behind in the development of modern magic.”

She was right.

Unlike ancient magic, which emphasized experience and intuition, modern magic incorporated a significant amount of theory and calculation. New theories required extensive verification through the exchange and mutual learning among wizards—something that the traditional mentor-apprentice or familial succession of magical powers did not have. This was also one of the main reasons why First University continued to grow and develop.

Realizing that Elena would not divulge any more information, Korma finally gave up on pursuing this topic further. Besides, that black cat had already signed a Silence Contract, and would not cause any more trouble for her.

But before she could change the subject, Elena, who was worried about continued badgering, preemptively redirected the conversation: ”Do you really intend to deal with the Wandering Wizard? He is hardly a good character... According to internal information from the witch coven, that guy is linked to at least a dozen cases of missing wizards from the Mage Alliance.”

”I have no intention of trading with him outside of the island.” Korma waved her hand dismissively, set out two glasses, and poured a drink for Elena, ”Hmm, you still have half a bottle of Amber Light left from last time, shall we finish it today?”

Saying so, she unceremoniously poured herself half a glass.

The Gypsy witch looked worriedly at the witch with the slanted ponytail in front of her; the Fu Bullet in her hand had somehow been switched back to a set of Tarot Cards.

”Do you need me to read your fortune?” She fiddled nervously with the cards in her hand, ”If the divination turns out bad, we should proceed with the original plan. I’ll figure out a way with Jiang Yu.”

”No,” Korma shook her head decisively, swirling the glass in her hand: ”The descendants of those beings in the Deeps of Starry Sky are extremely rare; getting their blood and flesh can increase the success rate by more than ten percent. It’s worth the risk for me.”

For some reason, upon hearing Korma’s answer, the first image that surfaced in Elena’s mind was her and Zheng Qing on the ferry across the Silent River, under the orange gaze of a giant frog monster.

”Let nature take its course,” the witch lifted her head to the crescent Moon that hung in the sky, took a long breath, then picked up the glass and downed the sorrow in her heart in one go.

...

...

”Just go with the flow,” Black Cat squatted on the dormitory desk, frowning bitterly at Doctor Xiao in front of him, ”Love doesn’t have a textbook, and there’s no method that can be taught... I’m also just going with the flow.”

Today, after returning to school from North Beta Town, it was too late to take a stroll to the Cat Fruit Tree, so he went straight back to the dorm. But before he could even sneak into his own bed, he was cornered at the desk by an already prepared Xiao Xiao.

After a few words, Xiao Xiao’s purpose became very clear.

It was still about Sima Yangyun. Ever since Doctor Xiao had irritated Teacher Sima a while ago, he had recently been given a hard time in history class. Reciting texts, answering questions, and extra homework—only a student with a sharp pen and quick tongue like Xiao Xiao could barely survive under Mister Sima’s relentless attacks.

But muddling through was not a solution forever; he needed a more proactive and effective way to solve the problem.

Looking around, it seemed that only his classmate Zheng Qing could provide effective advice. In dorm 403, Zheng Qing was always the topic of gossip, known for being popular with witches. His peaceful relationship with Elena was something Doctor Xiao envied deeply.

He too craved that kind of light and easy romance.

”What’s your view on love, then?” Xiao Xiao turned and asked a question that got closer to the essence.

”Huh?” Zheng Qing, not sure why, felt a bit embarrassed. Such a topic felt somewhat odd between two men.

”You just need to talk about your feelings for Elena,” Xiao Xiao proficiently took out his notebook.

”Love,” Zheng Qing didn’t directly answer Xiao Xiao’s question, but instead he sighed,

”I’ve always felt that the emotions expressed by love, familial affection, and friendship are not so different. The difference lies only in the different expressions needed between individuals.”

”An interesting perspective.”

”Mm, familial affection is the link of blood, the bond between blood relatives; friendship is the link of familiarity, the demands of a person’s social nature; love, then, is reproduction as the link, the relationship between the sexes. Simply put, it’s an expression that distinguishes the relationships we have with others.”

”Tsk tsk, that doesn’t sound like you,” Xiao Xiao paused with his pen.

Black Cat, somewhat excited by the topic, stood up and began circling the edge of the desk, tail in the air:

”To be in love is not to look at each other, but to look together in the same direction. I think this saying makes a lot of sense.”

”Right now, she and I are just looking at each other, finding the other interesting. But when we stand shoulder to shoulder, we always look in different directions.”

”In her eyes, there are her people, her world. It’s a world completely different from mine...”

”...What are you doing? Aren’t you supposed to be listening to my view? What are you always writing there?”

Black Cat, seeing Doctor Xiao’s pen constantly moving, couldn’t contain his impatience any longer, stopped circling, and pressed a paw down on his notebook.

”I’m recording your thoughts on love,” Xiao Xiao replied seriously: ”They might inspire me in some way.”

”You’re too greedy,” Black Cat was stunned for a moment, admiring Xiao Xiao’s effort and his devotion to knowledge.

”The curiosity for the unknown, the yearning for knowledge, to me, has no end,” Xiao Xiao looked up at Zheng Qing, and smiled faintly.

Through Xiao Xiao’s black eyes, Zheng Qing seemed to see a figure that never stopped.
