High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1184: Chapter 246 Wreckage and Silhouette

”Two months ago, due to an accidental incident, a descendant of Satoguya was blasted into dust deep within Silent River. The clean-up operation at the time was handled by Trishula’s Beta Town office and Beta Town’s Public Security Department... And I, just so happen to have a good relationship with both institutions, so I got a bit of ’spoils of war’.”

”The spoils weren’t much, and the ’remains’ of those descendants that fell into my hands totaled seven hundred and fifty grams, equivalent to twenty-six point four five five ounces, or one hundred and fifty qian.”

”Originally, I had planned to set a clear price and sell by the gram.”

”But considering the small quantity of these ’remains’, and the fact that any slightly larger magic ritual would likely require no less than five hundred grams, I smartly decided to sell the entire lot as a package.”

”Since we are all neighbors on the island, we see each other often, to avoid disputes, I’ve decided to adopt a ’silent bid’ method for the pricing. A fixed price, and the highest bidder takes it. Friends who fail in their bid can continue to browse through other magic materials newly arrived in my shop.”

”My shop has just received a batch of Tarzan Worms, original worms from deep within the Alps, absolutely not the fakes cultivated in the Dark Blue Castle Magic Laboratory; there are also a pair of Zhuobokabras, male and female, which are very suitable for breeding or direct medicinal use...”

Korma listened to the lanky wizard behind the bar ramble on with his sales pitch, while multitasking, secretly weighing up the caliber of the other few competitors in the room.

That Luo pot wizard’s aura was very unfamiliar, Korma couldn’t tell if he were a new visitor from outside the island or a magic maniac who had long been living in a laboratory. Either way, it was very bad news for Korma. Because if this stranger had made a special trip to the Wandering Wizard’s bar to seek a deal, his desperation for the material was evident.

By comparison, Andrew Taylor, who was representing Sepulano, was indeed the easiest to deal with. Korma was confident she could persuade the first-year werewolf lad to give up the ’remains’. Moreover, the pair of Zhuobokabras newly acquired by the Wandering Wizard would be very helpful in convincing him.

As for the guest from the Fishman Tribe, Korma, serving as the vice-president of the student council at the First University, did not take him seriously at all. Even if that guest were an elder of the Fishman Tribe, he would have no intimidation power over a witch—especially with the current tense situation, the Fishman Tribe of Bell Lake was already finding it difficult to get around due to disputes with Jiuyou Academy, so it was unlikely that they would dare to trouble the vice-president of the student council at such a time.

Just as the witch was pondering, Andrew Taylor suddenly interrupted the Wandering Wizard’s pitch and asked:

”Excuse me, sir.”

”You just mentioned ’remains’ are from two months ago, from a descendant of Satoguya in the depths of Silent River... If the rumors are correct, that descendant should be the one Zheng Qing, a student, blew up, right?”

Korma immediately raised an eyebrow.

She had been too focused on how to stand out among the competitors and had ignored such a crucial piece of information, which was infuriating. During the winter break, the news of Zheng Qing killing a monster in Silent River had shocked the entire North Beta Town.

That monster had been lurking at the mouth of the bay on Silent River for many years, and each year, Tricksters who went into the woods to collect magic materials were devoured by that monster at the bay. For Tricksters who had grown up in the North District, that monster was a more terrifying existence than Satan or Lucifer.

However, Korma was not a true Trickster on one hand, and on the other, so many things had happened inside and outside the school since the start of term, that the student council’s daily workload left her with a headache. Plus, a lot of time had passed, and she had been focusing on the construction of that magic circle recently, so much so that she didn’t immediately react when the Wandering Wizard mentioned those keywords.

”I can’t tell you the exact origin of these ’remains’; I can only tell you that it’s not so legal,” the Wandering Wizard laughed softly and added, ”Besides, I can also tell you that, apart from this batch of materials in my hands, the other remains have already been collected by the academy into the Black Prison.”

Korma couldn’t help but sigh heavily in her heart.

Just a moment ago, she even felt that she could turn around and leave this oppressive little cabin to confront Zheng Qing for a piece of the remains. As the hunter who had slain that beast, Zheng Qing should have received his share of the spoils by convention.

The Wandering Wizard wouldn’t waste his reputation on such a verifiable trifle.

”Very well, since there are no other objections, let the bidding begin,” the Wandering Wizard, foregoing further talk, lifted the silver spoon once again and tapped the rim of the wine glass. Accompanied by the crisp ting-ting sounds, a white card and a white feather pen simultaneously appeared before each of the guests.

The four guests, as if by mutual agreement, reached out and grabbed the card and the feather pen.

...

...

When Korma stepped into the Wandering Bar, Zheng Qing was peering through the glass window, looking out.

It was past eight o’clock in the evening, and the sky was already dim. The school’s fireflies gathered in swarms on withered branches and bare eaves, casting spotty milk-white halos all around.

The window where Zheng Qing stood was located in a corner of the third floor of the Book Mountain Library, a place where Zheng Qing and Elena typically sat together to study. But today, for some reason, the Gypsy witch hadn’t responded to the warlock’s glances all day, nor had she come here to do homework after class.

Not only that, she had packed up her books that she usually left on the table to reserve her spot.

This made Zheng Qing somewhat anxious.

He had a feeling Elena’s absence wasn’t because the magic circle was activating this Saturday and therefore she was ignoring him. A warlock in love is always very sensitive about such matters.

Originally, during the Fu Lu class in the afternoon, Zheng Qing had planned to find an opportunity to talk to her. But the witch was in a hurry, and she almost immediately followed Professor Zhang’s steps out of the classroom after class ended, leaving the warlock with no chance to speak with her.

So after dinner, Zheng Qing didn’t even go to D&K to check the accounts, instead choosing to stay in the library. Although he was in a turmoil and could hardly focus on anything, he still insisted on staying at the Book Mountain Library until the sky had completely darkened.

The witch still hadn’t appeared.

Every five minutes, Zheng Qing couldn’t resist sticking his head out the window, looking out, hoping to catch sight of that familiar figure. But he was disappointed time and time again as he withdrew his head.

Until that time past eight, when Zheng Qing looked out once more, he still didn’t see Elena’s figure heading for the Book Mountain Library, but unexpectedly he saw another familiar figure leaving the library.

It was Jiang Yu’s cousin, the Little Spiritual Wizard from Astronomy Class 08-1, Li Meng.
