Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1095: Chapter 1096: Behave and Listen to the Lecture

Qiulian scolded him with a glance and said to Chiang Xiao, ”You hear him! What’s wrong with eating something?” She whispered to Chiang Xiao, ”I tried making these candied walnuts, which taste nice, had bought ten kilograms of peanuts from the countryside, dried them for days, and shelled the peanuts after school every day himself. He wanted me to make some candied peanuts for you when I was free to see whether you find walnuts or peanuts tastier.”

Chiang Xiao felt a slight sting at her nose.

She knew.

She had always known.

Although the teacher never said nice things and sometimes even deliberately scolded her fiercely, he had always treated her well, genuinely cared for her welfare, and had her best interests at heart.

”Thank you, teacher, thank you, mentor’s wife.”

”What’s there to thank?” Liu Guoying huffed, ”There are still two jars in the bag, packed in bottles to look nicer. Take them to the Meng Family later. We don’t have much else to give, just made these ourselves for Officer Meng’s family to try.”

Chiang Xiao had already mentioned over the phone that she was staying at the Meng family’s these days.

It was then that Liu Guoying also learned that Meng Xinian was indeed a gentleman from the Capital.

”Okay!” Chiang Xiao sniffled quietly, flashing a broad smile, and took Qiulian’s arm, saying, ”Let’s go, teacher, mentor’s wife, let’s go out for a meal, my treat!”

”You’re treating? How much money do you think you have? Spending money wildly...”

Liu Guoying couldn’t help but start to nag again.

Chiang Xiao stuck out her tongue and obediently listened to his lecture. But after dinner, when it was time to pay, she insisted on paying anyway.

How could Liu Guoying outcompete her?

He was unable to make a scene in public over paying or to stuff money into her hands; he could only stare at her with wide eyes.

On the way back, Chiang Xiao told him that she had the opportunity to hang her work in the Capital Art Academy Exhibition Hall as well.

”Really?” Liu Guoying was ecstatic. ”That is wonderful news! The news of this exhibition has already spread; I heard that international reporters would also be attending! Even if it’s three days late, having your name there is certainly a good thing. It’s especially beneficial given that you’ve already won a provincial first prize and are a member of the artists’ association; it will certainly attract attention!”

Chiang Xiao nodded and said, ”But there’s one more condition, and only if it’s met can I register.”

”What condition?”

”I need help from my mentor with this.”

Liu Guoying immediately waved his hand, ”Stop beating around the bush! Just tell me what you need me to do!”

”I need a recommendation letter from a mentor.”

”What?” Having heard her clearly, Liu Guoying suddenly fell silent.

Qiulian and Chiang Xiao exchanged glances, both waiting for his response.

Because of the troubles and persecution he suffered in the past due to his artworks, being stabbed by his kin, Liu Guoying harbored a deep inner turmoil.

”Such a mentor would probably need to have a significant reputation in the art circle, right?” Liu Guoying said with a bitter smile. ”Xiao Chiang, it seems like you made a poor choice becoming my pupil. Is it still possible for you to find a new mentor at this stage?”

As soon as Chiang Xiao heard that, she stomped her foot.

”Teacher, what are you talking about? Why don’t you listen to my idea first?”

”What idea?”

”Think about the ’Autumn Scenery Painting’! You already had a reputation anyway, it’s just that the copy of ’Autumn Scenery Painting’ was always signed anonymous! You simply didn’t claim that fame for yourself! As long as you agree to sign your name on the later copy of ’Autumn Scenery Painting’ you made, you will definitely be famous! If I say I’m your student and carry your recommendation letter, everyone will be envious of me!”
