Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1054: Chapter 1055: Suddenly Remembering Her

The illness seemed to be fierce. Before the attack, he could endure the headaches, but once it struck, he fell down, and his whole being felt as if all his strength had been drained.

He had already called out twice, but the sickroom was quiet, with only himself in it.

Shouldn’t Qingie be here?

At first, Meng Chaojun thought she might have stepped out to the restroom or something, but after waiting for a long while with nobody coming, his mouth felt so dry that he was very uncomfortable.

”Is anyone there? Doctor? Nurse?”

It was on his third shout that someone finally came in.

”Oh, Alliance Officer Meng, you’re awake?”

Meng Chaojun recognized the middle-aged woman; she was a maid from the Duan Family, helping Duan Feian and the others with the housework, known as Sister Lian.

”Sister Lian, where’s Qingie?”

”Oh, her? She went home to get some clothes for you.”

Home to get clothes for him? Did that mean he wasn’t going to be discharged today and had to stay in the hospital?

”Pour me a glass of water,” Meng Chaojun said, enduring his thirst.

Sister Lian replied and went to pour him water. But upon reaching the table, she exclaimed, ”There’s no cup here? Alliance Officer Meng, wait a moment, I’ll find a cup for you.”

Sister Lian took a full ten minutes to return.

By that time, Meng Chaojun’s mouth was so dry that he didn’t have a drop of saliva left. And his chest felt so congested that he thought only a cup of hot water might provide some relief.

When Sister Lian came back and poured him a glass of water, she reached out to help him sit up to drink, but her hand immediately retracted.

”Oh my, if Miss Qingie saw me helping you like this, she wouldn’t be pleased. Alliance Officer Meng, you better sit up and drink it yourself.”

Meng Chaojun wanted to give a wry smile but couldn’t.

There had been a time before when he had twisted his foot, and Sister Lian had helped him up, which Qingie saw, and she sulked with him for a while.

Back then, he found her quite adorable, thinking that a woman being a little possessive and jealous was all because of her desire to claim him, all because she loved him too much.

Not like Meng Xinian’s mother, who would only laugh it off, unconcerned even when others told her they saw him getting close to a female team member.

Meng Chaojun was taken aback for a moment.

Why did he suddenly think of her?

He hadn’t thought of her for a long time, didn’t want to think about her.

He tried to support his heavy body to sit up, but his arms were weak, and he struggled, unable to sit up on his own.

Just then, someone walked in and slipped their arm behind him, helping him up while also propping up the pillow to allow him to lean back.

Meng Chaojun breathed a sigh of relief, thinking it was a nurse, and looked up to thank the person, but when he raised his head, he saw Chiang Xiao’s face.

He was stunned.

”Do you want some water?” Chiang Xiao asked.

Meng Chaojun nodded blankly.

Chiang Xiao glanced at Sister Lian and the cup in her hand, then took out a military canteen and a cup from the bag she carried, poured half a cup, and brought it to his lips.

”Drink.”

Her tone was somewhat cold.

Although still feeling slightly awkward, Meng Chaojun drank the half cup of water from her hand.

As the water went down his throat, it was refreshingly cool, instantly soothing his parched throat.

”Another cup,” he couldn’t help saying.

”Just half a cup,” Chiang Xiao said expressionlessly.

”Chiang Xiao, you...” Meng Chaojun was a bit annoyed, were they only letting him drink half a cup of water?

Sister Lian muttered, ”I’ve got water right here, now I have to pour it again.”

”You have water, why didn’t you give it to him to drink?” Chiang Xiao already knew this woman was the aunt left to take care of Meng Chaojun, as Duan Feian had mentioned, and she wasn’t pleased with her either.
