Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1083: Chapter 1084: Infested with Poisonous Insects

When they reached the leeward side of a huge boulder and saw a large patch of grayish-white grass, Chiang Xiao’s eyes immediately lit up.

She had just listened to them discussing Little hemp straw, mentioning the characteristics of Little hemp straw.

Now, this clump of grass fit the description of Little hemp straw perfectly.

Grayish-white, looking as if it had already withered, yet upon closer inspection, it was still full of vitality.

”Nobody can stop good luck!” Chiang Xiao was about to hum a tune and couldn’t help but give herself a thumbs up.

She took out a shovel, ready to dig up this clump of Little hemp straw.

While Chiang Xiao was digging for medicinal herbs on the mountain, Meng Xinian was also leading an ambush in a field of grass as tall as a person.

Their mission was equally dangerous.

This was a border area, just one mountain away from the neighboring country.

There was a boundary line in the mountain: this side was domestic territory, and stepping across it would mean leaving the country.

Recently, there had always been individuals crossing the border to cause trouble.

After receiving a message from the Sentinel Post, they discovered traces of a group entering the territory, but they couldn’t find anyone. The Sentinel Post was short on personnel, so they requested reinforcements from the Alliance District. Meng Xinian’s mission was not only to locate these people but also to find out their purpose, how many they were, and which power’s orders they were following.

In the end, they planned to capture them all in one fell swoop.

And they had to make sure to keep some alive.

This area was scarcely populated and the land was barren, but the mountain was teeming with mosquitoes, poisonous ants, and the environment was extremely harsh.

As soon as they ascended the mountain, three team members had already been bitten by poisonous insects, and then their wounds quickly festered. One of them who was seriously affected even experienced dizziness and hallucinations, so Meng Xinian had no choice but to send people to escort them down the mountain.

Now, only Meng Huanian and nine other team members remained with him.

”Officer, what exactly are they up to?” Dai Gang asked in a low voice, ”This dangerous mountain is treacherous and barren, they stay for days at a stretch. Could their medicine be more effective?

The medicine they brought was not very effective.

Finding people while constantly guarding against mosquito bites was a challenge.

Moreover, those who could plot in such conditions were likely to be fierce and desperate criminals, risking their lives.

On this mission, they suddenly didn’t know if they could safely make it back alive.

Meng Xinian said in a deep voice, ”No matter what they’re up to, we have to drag them out! Tighten your clothes and be careful.”

The poison from the insects and ants here was dangerous; a bite leading to wound festering and inflammation was manageable, but the hallucinations and unconsciousness were fearsome. If they got bitten, it wasn’t just the mission that would be in jeopardy, but getting down the mountain safely would become problematic.

Therefore, Meng Xinian had them fully armored, even covering their faces with military-green cloth, revealing only their eyes.

”Officer, it looks like it’s going to rain soon. We haven’t seen any movement from those bastards, should we find a place to take cover?” another team member, Huang Zhe, inquired.

This desolate place could become unbearable if they got soaked in the rain.

Meng Xinian looked at the sky and said, ”Okay, find a cave to shelter from the rain, and watch out for poisonous insects and snakes.”

He made a gesture and everyone spread out to look for shelter.

Soon, Dai Gang found a suitable location and everyone silently rushed over.

They had just entered the cave when the rain came pouring down heavily.

The heavy downpour darkened the sky considerably.

Just when Meng Xinian thought that the enemy wouldn’t take any action in this weather, two slim figures braved the rain and dashed into the mountain.

Gong Xinhe happened to go outside for a small need and saw those two figures.
