Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1071: Chapter 1072: A Fitting Death

She had taken the day off today.

Originally, taking leave just one week into her new school, the teachers would naturally have their opinions.

After all, they were only there to study for a month.

But Chiang Xiao said it was because an elder in her family was hospitalized, and the teacher had no choice.

That day, Meng Chaojun’s hospital room was as bustling as a marketplace.

Normally, these relatives barely communicated unless there were direct benefits involved, only then would they gather to secure the greatest advantages for their own.

Meng Chaojun’s uncles and cousins, though not very capable and several of whom had been promoted only during Old Meng’s tenure, each held themselves with pride.

Relying on Meng Chaojun’s belief that having a large family also equated to having connections, and that in critical times a crowd could be useful, they always considered themselves a solid support and source of strength for the Meng Family.

Yet they all understood that among the large Meng family, Meng Chaojun’s current position was the most important.

With him in this position, they could all securely stay in their current positions.

Now having heard that something had grown in Meng Chaojun’s brain, everyone became restless.

”Chaojun’s illness, how can he handle the official duties at hand?”

”Yes, this illness isn’t something that can be cured quickly,” Uncle Meng said with a grim face, wondering whether it could be cured at all. ”If the Gao Family, Fang Family, Lu Family seize this opportunity to bring him down, we’d be losing both our person and our rights.”

Old Meng trembled with anger.

What does losing both our person and our rights mean?

These are the so-called family, relatives!

Hadn’t he seen through them already? How could he still be disappointed now?

”What my dad said isn’t wrong, although nobody wanted Chaojun to fall ill and everyone is now sad and worried, the most important thing right now is how to suppress this news.”

”Exactly, Bohyuan handled it well, even though he has been close to Fong Jianye recently, all he told Fong Jianye was that Chaojun had a stomach ache. It just so happened that Chaojun vomited badly this morning, right? This confirms it.”

”We, the Meng Family, still have some cohesion. If we twist into a single rope and manage to suppress the news, we can tell everyone it’s just a headache and stomach problems.”

Upon hearing Uncle Meng’s words, everyone nodded in agreement.

”As for the doctors, we’ve already made arrangements, they won’t speak out.”

Old Meng, with a stern face, asked, ”Then how do we conceal it when Chaojun undergoes treatment?” He had already inquired that for Meng Chaojun’s condition, it was best to start with medication, pharmacological treatment, chemotherapy, and wait until the thing inside shrank before surgery.

How many days can stomach problems justify a hospital stay?

”Jianye,” Uncle Meng looked at him profoundly, ”now we all need to take active measures. For the moment, Chaojun seems to be in good spirits, so how about he checks out after three days? During these three days, let Chaojun work a bit harder and handle his duties from the hospital room. I’ll have Wenxing help.”

Meng Wenxing, Meng Chaojun’s cousin.

Apart from Meng Chaojun, it’s now only Meng Wenxing who can vie for a higher position within the family.

They had already briefly discussed it at home, Meng Chaojun’s illness was basically incurable. So why not let him use his last bit of energy to bring more benefits to the Meng family during the final moments of his life?

These benefits, of course, were to strive to support Meng Wenxing’s rise!

By the time they helped Meng Wenxing rise, at least Meng Chaojun would have died a meaningful death.
