Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1061: Chapter 1062: Having Such Friendship

”During those two years, they exchanged letters twice. Xinian’s mother once told my wife in a letter that in Capital City she had no one else to rely on anymore, and if something were to happen to her, after much thought, the only person she could ask to look after Xinian was my wife. Afterwards, during those turbulent times, we moved several places, and their correspondence thus ended. But my wife always remembered her.”

Chiang Xiao listened quietly, but she didn’t quite understand why Li Hanzhong was explaining these things in such detail to her. Did Meng Xinian also know about this?

But she was sure that Old Meng didn’t know, because from Old Meng’s behavior earlier, she realized that although he directly called Li Hanzhong by his name, it was clear that he was not well-acquainted with Li Hanzhong and was quite polite, even reminding her to be modest.

It was known that Old Meng himself was quite a domineering person, and not everyone could receive his special regard.

Did they both not know that Meng Xinian actually had a good relationship with Li Hanzhong and his wife, and such a connection existed?

”After my wife and I were transferred back to the Capital City, we heard about the Meng Family’s situation and were quite shocked. My wife originally wanted to pay a visit to the Meng Family, but at that time I felt it inappropriate to disturb their new life, and also, my political stance at that time made it inconvenient for me to go...”

Li Hanzhong said this while looking at Chiang Xiao, feeling somewhat at a loss about how to continue. Could she truly understand these political matters?

But he also didn’t know why, perhaps because of the words he had heard Chiang Xiao saying at the door of Meng Chaojun’s hospital room, he didn’t see her as a naive young girl anymore. Just now, as he was talking, he ended up discussing these topics.

Originally, he hadn’t planned to say so much or to clarify so much.

”Chief Alliance Officer, I understand.”

Chiang Xiao immediately responded, feeling a bit nervous.

Why would he discuss these things with her?

With her response, Li Hanzhong immediately appreciated her intelligence, quick-wittedness, and empathy.

”By the time we paid attention to Xinian again, that kid had already grown very self-directed, and we couldn’t offer much help. He did it all by himself.”

Upon hearing this, Chiang Xiao also understood that in those chaotic times, Li Hanzhong and his wife must have secretly helped Meng Xinian quite a bit.

”I’ve told you so much because I want to let you know that my wife truly sees Xinian as her own child. Although Xinian has always declined our help, we still hope to see him find a suitable girl who can be good to him, support him. He is the child I aim to mentor, so there is something I also want you to understand; he is suited for the path of the Aristocratic Family Alliance, his talents can be showcased here. Child, being the wife of a Supervisor Guard is also very tough, especially at your young age, you might not fully understand this yet. You need to think carefully about whether you truly, resolutely want to follow him on this journey. If you are confident, my wife and I will support you, but if you hesitate, could you please consider giving up sooner?”

Giving up sooner?

Chiang Xiao looked at him.

”Yes, we know Xinian’s nature very well. He is a deeply emotional and stubborn child, single-minded. We don’t want affairs of the heart to ruin him.”

Chiang Xiao hadn’t expected that Li Hanzhong had asked her to come here to say these things to her.

”Chief Alliance Officer, I’ve noted every word you said. Whatever Meng Xinian wants to do, I will support him, and I will definitely not hold him back! You can rest assured of that!”
