Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1076: Chapter 1077: Famous Doctor of Renzhi Hall

Old Meng had not intended to hide anything from Chiang Xiao, but he was at a loss as to where to begin.

The interests and powers of the Meng Family always came first, and he didn’t want Chiang Xiao to see things too clearly just yet.

”Stay at home for a few days! Consider it a retreat. However, I’ve arranged a meeting with the renowned Divine Chinese Medicine Practitioner Doctor Chen Baoshen from Capital City. We’re meeting him outside this afternoon; you should come with me.”

Chiang Xiao did not ask any further questions.

The affairs of the vast Meng Family were not her place to inquire into at present.

But Divine Chinese Medicine Practitioner Doctor Chen Baoshen?

”Doctor Chen’s clinic, Renzhi Hall, has a history of over a hundred years, and his medical skills are astonishing. Moreover, he himself is a legendary figure in the field of Chinese medicine,” said Old Meng. ”We can’t just sit idly by—we need to try every avenue. Perhaps Doctor Chen might have some herbal medicine that could gradually reduce the tumor until it eliminates itself. Then there would be no need for surgery.”

Chinese medicine, huh...

Chiang Xiao still believed in it.

She was also interested in meeting this famous Chinese medicine practitioner.

However, she did not expect that this meeting with Chen Baoshen would directly ”expose” her.

Old Meng had not arranged for the meeting with Doctor Chen to be at their home, nor had he allowed him to see Meng Chaojun first, and Chiang Xiao later understood the reason.

They still wanted to keep Meng Chaojun’s illness a secret.

To accommodate Doctor Chen, the location for the afternoon meeting was a bit far, close to Doctor Chen’s place, at a site resembling a rural family fun spot.

Moreover, this family fun spot was located at the foot of a mountain.

That was quite a distance outside the city.

Having been in Capital City for over a week and now seeing an expanse of mountains once again, Chiang Xiao felt a sense of familiarity.

”Grandfather, why does Doctor Chen live so far away?”

”Renzhi Hall is quite wealthy. Do you see that stretch of mountains over there? All of that belongs to Renzhi Hall,” Old Meng pointed to a range of mountains. ”Inside those mountains are Renzhi Hall’s medicine fields, and, I’ve heard that the mountains also produce a good number of wild medicinal herbs. Every May, Renzhi Hall opens up half of their mountain forest for free to allow people to gather herbs, and whatever herbs they collect are their own to keep; Renzhi Hall does not take a cent.”

Chiang Xiao was surprised.

”Has anyone actually found good medicinal herbs in the mountains?”

”Certainly. Five years ago, someone found a ten-year-old wild ginseng in the mountains that could sell for a thousand dollars. Renzhi Hall didn’t hesitate to let him have it. However, the man felt that holding onto the wild ginseng wasn’t very useful, so he sold it to Chen Baoshen, fetching over a thousand yuan.”

A thousand yuan five years ago was indeed a lot of money.

As they spoke, they arrived at the base of a small mountain not far from Renzhi Hall’s mountain, where there was a single-story house with white walls and green tiles, fenced with railings. Inside, there was a sizable pond dug out and several bamboo pavilions.

The environment was indeed nice.

There were four cars parked on the flat ground outside, and the sound of children playing could be heard inside. Although this place was far from the city center, it looked like the business was still quite good.

”This place is close to the Chen Family’s home, and people often come here seeking Doctor Chen Baoshen. If Doctor Chen is unavailable and cannot meet them, they can also come here for a meal or to fish,” Old Meng explained.

So, their business was indeed doable.

Furthermore, it was said that Doctor Chen Baoshen often came here to fish himself; perhaps one could even run into him and earn a free medical consultation, or get some medicine for free.

You see, although the medicines at Renzhi Hall were very good, they were also expensive.

They got out of the car, and Chiang Xiao, supporting Old Meng, entered this rural leisure spot called ”Spare Time.”

It didn’t look very large from the outside, but once inside, it was like finding another world.

Several bamboo pavilions were separated by paths lined with lush bamboo, and the single-story houses had distinctively styled windows adorned with glass; on their sills were potted Orchid Grass.
