Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1064: Chapter 1065: Not Good News

Duan Qingqing had not expected that Meng Chaojun actually wanted her to leave, and for a moment she stared at him, incredulous.

However, she did not know that Meng Chaojun wanted to ask about Chiang Xiao and Li Hanzhong.

In this regard, he had at least been clear, never involving Duan Qingqing in matters related to his official business. He also knew to some extent that Duan Qingqing might not be fully able to keep things confidential.

Chiang Xiao walked over and took away her own special kettle, ignoring Meng Chaojun, ”Grandpa, I think I’ll head back now, I’ll go home and cook for you.”

She probably knew what Meng Chaojun wanted to discuss, but she did not want to tell him what Li Hanzhong had said.

On one hand, she had promised Li Hanzhong to keep it a secret, on the other hand, she also considered Xinian’s situation.

If Meng Chaojun knew how close Xinian and the Li Hanzhong Couple actually were, who knows what he might make Xinian do.

”Let’s go, I’ll go back with you. There are people to take care of things here. There’s no need for an old fellow like me to strain myself!”

Old Meng turned around and left with Chiang Xiao.

Duan Qingqing’s voice could still be heard from behind, but they paid her no heed.

Once out of the hospital, Old Meng did not speak.

It wasn’t until after they had returned home and the security officer had left that he sighed deeply, leaned back on the sofa, appearing very exhausted.

Seeing him like this, Chiang Xiao realized that Old Meng must have seen the doctor while she was talking with Li Hanzhong.

She brewed a cup of Nourishing Body Tea, avoiding Aunt Guo, took two pieces of tea cake from Space with a small plate and brought them out.

”Grandpa, have some tea and a snack first.”

They had been at the hospital all morning, and now it was already 12:30 pm.

When she said earlier that she was going to cook for him, it was actually just a lazy excuse to leave the hospital.

Aunt Guo was in the kitchen cooking.

Aunt Guo had answered the phone a few times when Chiang Xiao made calls, so she actually knew Chiang Xiao.

”Little Little, this must be what your grandmother gave you to eat, isn’t it? Why did you bring it out for me?” Old Meng’s eyes lit up when he saw the tea cakes.

Even though he said this, he unapologetically picked up a piece of tea cake and ate it.

The supply at home had run out several days earlier.

Since these items were so expensive, he later felt a bit embarrassed to always ask Chiang Xiao to send them, so he had been more conservative with them.

However, Chiang Xiao would still send a few boxes to him regularly.

He would not share them with anyone else; he ate them all himself.

”Grandpa, just enjoy them. Actually, during this trip to the Capital, my grandparents prepared a lot of things for me to bring over; they are still in my college dorm. Because I met you at Chen Yin’s house, I haven’t had a chance to bring them over yet. I’ll go back this afternoon and bring the things over.”

”Don’t bring too much,” Old Meng sighed, ”You see what our family is like. Bringing things over for them to eat is just a waste!”

Chiang Xiao pursed her lips, she had never intended to bring those fine items for Duan Qingqing to eat.

So, giving gifts was out of the question.

But Old Meng wanted them, and after all, with his son critically ill and having suffered such a heavy blow, who knew how much sorrow and torment he was enduring.

And then there was Meng Chaojun, as much as she was unwilling, she could not stand by and watch him die.

”Grandpa, what did the doctor say?” she asked softly.

Old Meng sighed deeply, ”Malignant. They said it’s compressing something in the brain, which is why there’s frequent headaches.”

Malignant...

Chiang Xiao fell silent for a moment.

A tumor in the brain, this...

Was too dangerous.

Especially in this era.
