Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1084: Chapter 1085: Two Women

Gong Xinhe had originally wanted to turn back and report to Meng Xinian immediately, but he worried that by the time he did, those two people might have disappeared.

He gritted his teeth, pulled up his pants, tightened his belt, and chased after the two figures.

The rain struck his face, blurring his vision. Being in the mountains and forests, he risked being tripped by roots or whipped by branches constantly. If it weren’t for the continuous training with Meng Xinian, he wouldn’t be able to walk fast in such conditions, let alone run.

But those two people were running very fast.

It seemed like they were used to living in this environment.

Gong Xinhe almost lost them several times.

About ten minutes later, he saw them run to the side of a hill slope covered with dangling vines. The two brushed aside the vines with their hands and swiftly entered.

Gong Xinhe felt a jump in his heart.

Was there actually a cave here?

Could this be their hideout?

Gong Xinhe waited outside for three minutes before he followed and squeezed into the cave. The entrance was small, just wide enough for one person to enter.

The inside was much darker, but it felt much larger than the one they had been in before.

Gong Xinhe had just sensed something was off and was about to rush out when it was already too late.

A sharp object pressed against his waist.

”Don’t move.”

A female voice echoed from one side.

Gong Xinhe stiffened.

It was a woman.

They hadn’t expected there to be women here.

”Kitten, bring over some fire,” the woman holding the sharp knife against him said to a small woman in front.

”Coming right away.”

The woman called Kitten had a softer voice and sounded young.

”What are you trying to do?” Gong Xinhe’s mind worked rapidly, looking for an opportunity.

Two women should not be a match for him.

He just needed to overpower these two women, and it would be a significant breakthrough.

However, as if she understood his thoughts, the woman suddenly laughed. Her voice was slightly hoarse, tinged with a trace of a foreign accent.

”Big brother, we were just messing with you. Why did you keep following us?”

As she spoke, she moved the sharp knife away from his waist.

Gong Xinhe was stunned.

What did this mean?

”Who are you?”

”Our home is just over this mountain in a small village. We came here to dig for worms,” the woman moved in front of him.

By the dim light, Gong Xinhe could see her features clearly.

A young woman with distinct facial features, slightly brown eyes, and somewhat plump lips, appearing to be just over twenty. Her clothes soaked by rain clung tightly to her body, revealing her curves.

Gong Xinhe quickly turned his head away, embarrassed to look at her.

”There are poisonous insects here, and you still come to dig for worms?”

”Big brother, you might not know this, but there is a type of worm here that can be fried and eaten. It’s very crispy and fragrant, and after being dried, it can also be used in medicine. It’s two hundred yuan per half kilogram. My name is Yiwa, that’s my cousin Kitten—we were just hurrying to find shelter from the rain, not knowing you were following us all along.”

As Yiwa spoke, she slid the sharp knife back into the sheath tied to her waist.

That’s when Gong Xinhe noticed a small cloth bag tied around her waist.

Upon seeing his gaze on the cloth bag, Yiwa immediately took it off, unzipped it, and showed it to him: ”This is the worms we dug.”

Indeed, the cloth bag contained a bunch of brown worms, each encased in a hard shell, unlike the soft ones.
