Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1091: Chapter 1092: There are also hidden worries

Old Meng didn’t speak, but continued to pour and drink hot water from the kettle.

Meng Baoyuan turned to glance at the top of the stairs and said, ”Great-uncle, to be blunt, if Chiang Xiao’s biological parents are no longer alive, that would actually be the best outcome. But what if they are still alive? Imagine, if Xinian’s position rises even higher in the future and Chiang Xiao’s parents suddenly show up. Who knows who her father might be? What if he was a fugitive, a murderer, or a rapist back in the day? What if her mother fell into the wrong path after leaving the village and now she’s become a prostitute or was trafficked to be some lazy man’s wife in a remote ravine?”

They had actually already thoroughly investigated Chiang Xiao’s background and had discussed it in meetings. They hadn’t paid much attention to it before because they thought this would not amount to anything.

But now, Chiang Xiao had already moved into the Meng Family’s house.

Duan Qingqing had gone to them, crying and complaining that since Chiang Xiao entered the Meng Family house, she had been acting like the lady of the house. Even Aunt Guo listened to her, and she had moved into Xinian’s room, changing the curtains and such.

Not only that, she had hit Kuang Hong and even told the security team they were no longer allowed to enter the courtyard.

Clearly, she was intending to take over the Meng Family.

Duan Qingqing cried and pleaded for their help, fearing that she might be thrown out at any moment.

The Duan Family and the Kuang Family, a seemingly unrebelling Duan Qingqing, certainly carried more weight than an almost orphaned Chiang Xiao.

So Boss Meng had Meng Baoyuan come over again to reiterate their intentions and make things clear to Meng Donghai.

He also made sure to explain the advantages and disadvantages involved.

Old Meng fluttered his eyelids a bit.

”Great-uncle, please think about it. Could the things I mentioned possibly happen?” asked Meng Baoyuan.

Old Meng’s fingertips rubbed the cup rhythmically.

Despite his aversion to what Meng Baoyuan was saying, he had to admit that every one of those hypothetical situations could very well happen.

What kind of normal, kind, and intelligent person would sleep with a village girl and then vanish?

Chiang Xiao’s biological father was indeed an enigma.

At this moment, Old Meng had to admit that he too harbored these subconscious worries.

And then there was Qingzhu.

Famed for her beauty, Qingzhu was not yet twenty when she gave birth to Chiang Xiao and left. The thought of such a young and beautiful girl running off alone, what she might have encountered, was simply chilling to even think about.

”Great-uncle, imagine if Xinian suddenly had a murderer for a father-in-law, and a mother-in-law who had been abducted and abused, and if they both had brought along a whole host of strange relatives. Furthermore, it’s possible that Chiang Xiao could have one or even several half-brothers or half-sisters from either her father or mother. And Xinian would have to call Chiang Xiao’s stepfather and stepmother ’Dad’ and ’Mom.’”

Meng Baoyuan sighed, ”Xinian can’t even accept his own stepmother; great-uncle, what will he do when that time comes? A person who does not think long-term will have immediate worries. If Xinian does not consider these issues now, when they all come flooding in later, will he be able to handle them? Great-uncle, we are not really despising Chiang Xiao, the girl. She’s pretty, has a decent personality, and I’ve heard she’s quite capable—excelling in her studies, even the principal and teachers like her, and she has also learned to paint?”

The Meng Family had really put in the effort to find out about Chiang Xiao in the past few days.

Regarding her as a person, they really had no objections; however, her personal and family background just wouldn’t do.
