Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1085: Chapter 1086: Be Serious

But to have that pack of insects tied around her waist, the girl’s courage was really not small!

Gong Xinhe’s taut nerves slightly relaxed, but at the same time, he felt somewhat disappointed, he had thought they might really find the hideout of that group of people, who knew it was just two villagers digging for insects.

”This mountain is very dangerous, and it is where the Sentinel Post is located. Even if you want to earn money, you can’t just come up the mountain.”

Yiwa said somewhat helplessly, ”We know that, but times are tough at home, and we can’t do anything else, we can only dig for insects to sell to help father and mother, what else can we do? We have our own medicine, after we apply it, we won’t be afraid of the insects, they won’t bite us. Also, the big brothers at the Sentinel Post are all very nice, as long as we don’t get close to the Sentinel Post and the border line, it will be fine.”

By this time, the girl called Kitten had already ignited a fire torch and brought it over.

The firelight illuminated their faces.

Kitten’s face looked very small, with big eyes and small, sharp ears, making her appear fragile and beautiful, seemingly about sixteen or seventeen years old.

She also had a small knife and a slightly bulging cloth bag at her waist.

Gong Xinhe had already believed their words.

After hearing that Yiwa’s medicine could effectively repel insects, his heart stirred.

They were short of medicine right now.

”How long have you been up the mountain?” he asked while swiftly surveying the cave. Although the cave was large, he didn’t sense any other people.

”We came up very early, we have to stay here for three days, otherwise we won’t dig up enough insects and it will be in vain,” Yiwa explained.

”Have you encountered anyone?”

”Yes, you,” Yiwa laughed.

Gong Xinhe said, ”Be serious. Come with me, it’s not safe here in the mountains, you can’t stay here by yourselves.” Who knows where that group could be?

If they encountered this pair of sisters, it would likely be more danger than luck.

Gong Xinhe felt he couldn’t leave them here on their own.

”But it’s raining, where could we go?” Kitten asked with a weak voice.

”We have to go now, when it gets dark later, I might not be able to protect both of you alone,” Gong Xinhe said while taking the fire torch from Kitten’s hand and extinguishing it.

Having fire now would more easily attract attention.

”Alright, we’ll follow you. We trust you, you look like a good person.”

Gong Xinhe stood up straight.

After he’d led them back for a while, he encountered Dai Gang and several others who had come looking for him.

Dai Gang and the others were wide-eyed when they saw the pair of girls he was bringing back.

”We’ll talk when we get back.”

Dai Gang gave the others a hand signal, and they intentionally surrounded Yiwa and her sister in the middle as they all ran back to the cave where they had taken shelter from the rain.

Inside the cave, the fire that had been lit was shielded with dry wood to block some of the light, thus raising the temperature a bit inside the cave while also avoiding exposure.

Meng Xinian sat by the fire, his hand unconsciously caressing the pendant hanging from his neck.

Now, he always had this habitual motion.

The pendant was a gift from Chiang Xiao, so whenever he thought about things, he would unconsciously caress it, as if Chiang Xiao was right there beside him.

Gong Xinhe’s voice interrupted his contemplation.

”Officer, I’ve come across a pair of sisters from the village across the mountain and brought them here,” he reported.

Meng Xinian turned his head upon hearing this.

The Yiwa sisters were also looking at him at that moment.

The young Officer sat by the fire, the soft red glow casting a faint light on the contours of his profile, making him appear extremely handsome and chiseled.
