The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 545: Chapter 545: Dividing the Family Property

The wedding was solemn and grand.

Although Mrs. Chen had selfishly hoped for Chen Wenxuan and Han Xiaoqing to stay in Germany, she still placed great importance on her son’s wedding.

The Chen family was a large clan, and with Mrs. Chen’s side of the family, they had relatives across Europe and America.

Everyone had put their work aside to attend the wedding.

The meal that followed was also Western-style.

Many of them had grown accustomed to the Western way of life, and some had even forgotten the customs of Hua Country.

Han Xiaoqing now understood that her and Chen Wenxuan’s way of thinking was different from the rest of the Chen family.

Since they were different, they had no intention of trying to change anyone else.

Likewise, no one else could control them either.

They received many gifts, and Han Xiaoqing and Chen Wenxuan thanked everyone for coming.

The wedding festivities lasted for three days. After the Chen family saw off their friends and relatives, only the immediate family remained.

Chen Wenxuan and Han Xiaoqing went to the Chen family’s manor together.

Today, as arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Chen, a lawyer was present to divide the family’s assets.

When the lawyer announced that the Chen Mansion in Hua Country and all the family’s investments there were being given to Chen Wenxuan and Han Xiaoqing, Chen Wenze and Chen Wenhui exchanged a look.

They had previously thought their eldest brother was just saying he didn’t want to stay abroad, but it turned out to be true.

”Wenze, Wenhui, do you two have any objections?” Mr. Chen asked. It was better to clarify some things early to avoid a bloody fight over property between siblings, turning them against each other.

Chen Wenze quickly replied with a smile, ”Dad, this is your and Mom’s arrangement, and we respect it. Since Big Brother isn’t dissatisfied, of course we aren’t either. Generally speaking, Big Brother is the one getting the short end of the stick. After all, the development in Hua Country is just beginning and is far from comparable to the businesses here in Germany.”

Chen Wenhui also quickly stated her position. ”I’ll listen to Dad and Mom, and I also respect Big Brother and Second Brother. I’m studying art anyway, so I don’t understand business or technology. As long as I get my dividends, I don’t care about the rest.”

Chen Wenxuan said humbly, ”Thank you, Mom and Dad. Thank you for everything you’ve done for Xiao Jing and me. Receiving all of this in Hua Country is already a great deal. You are all welcome to visit Hua Country anytime. And Mom, Dad, you’re always welcome to return.”

Since it was the Chen family’s assets being divided, it wasn’t Han Xiaoqing’s place to speak.

Therefore, Han Xiaoqing just sat and listened. After all, for her wedding, her sister had given her two shops—and on Jinshan Bay Commercial Street, no less.

The annual rent alone was more than enough for her to live on.

Besides that, her sister had also previously bought her a house in the Overseas Chinese District, which was in a very nice area.

This dowry was already quite substantial.

She was happy that the Chen family was giving assets to Chen Wenxuan, but she wouldn’t have cared if they hadn’t. ’My desire for material things really isn’t that strong. I have enough to eat, drink, and wear, I can do a job I love, and I’m surrounded by family and mentors. I’m already so happy; there’s truly no need to wish for more.’

Seeing Han Xiaoqing remain silent, Mrs. Chen brought over a box and pushed it across the table toward her.

”Before the wedding, I didn’t prepare much for you. Now that you’re married, it’s time for me to pass some things on to you. This box contains my jewelry and some other treasures. Please accept them.”

Han Xiaoqing was stunned. ”Mom, there’s no need. I don’t usually use these kinds of things. You should leave them for Wenhui.”

Mrs. Chen shook her head and said with a smile, ”I’ve already divided my things into three portions. Your future sister-in-law and Wenhui each have their own share. This one is yours, so you should take it.”

Han Xiaoqing looked at Chen Wenxuan, feeling that accepting a gift from Mrs. Chen was a thorny issue.

Chen Wenxuan took Han Xiaoqing’s hand and said with a smile, ”Since Mom is giving it to you, just accept it. If you don’t wear it, you can give it to our future children.”

Mr. Chen also smiled and said, ”That’s right. These things are keepsakes for the children. It’s a good thing if they can be passed down.”

Han Xiaoqing stood up and accepted the box. ”Thank you, Mom. I’ll take good care of it.”

Seeing Han Xiaoqing accept it, Mrs. Chen smiled. ”Don’t just store it away. You’re still young, so you should wear them often. They’re genuine pieces, so you don’t have to worry about wearing them out.”

Han Xiaoqing agreed. ”Yes, Mom. I will wear them.”

The details of dividing the assets were simple. Since Chen Wenxuan was married, his share would be managed by him and Han Xiaoqing.

Professional managers would help run the factories in Hua Country.

Chen Wenxuan wouldn’t have to manage everything himself; he just needed to supervise them when he had time.

As for Han Xiaoqing, she wouldn’t have to worry about work after returning to Hua Country.

Besides special education and research, Han Xiaoqing wasn’t interested in other fields.

While Mrs. Chen and Han Xiaoqing were chatting about things to keep in mind during pregnancy, Chen Wenze and Chen Wenxuan were talking in the garden.

”Big Brother, I originally thought that after you went abroad, you would never go back,” Chen Wenze said in a low voice. He knew quite a few students from Hua Country studying abroad. Some were even on government scholarships, yet they would rather bear the responsibility of breaching their contracts than return home. It was true that they could find good, high-paying jobs abroad, allowing them to live very well—so well that even locals would envy the preferential treatment these students received.

’Of course, these students are all exceptionally talented. And how could they not be? The college entrance exams in Hua Country have always been based on merit. Then, among university students, those selected for government scholarships to study abroad are the cream of the crop. Naturally, they’re quite brilliant by the time they arrive overseas. My big brother is just like that. I assumed that especially after understanding the Chen family’s status and wealth here in Germany, he would be even less likely to leave. But I was wrong!’

Chen Wenxuan smiled. ”What I’ve told you has always been the truth, my honest thoughts. You don’t need to overthink it. Everything you care about... you could say I dislike it all and have no desire to possess it.”

”If the Chen family’s business were handed to me, it would very likely run into problems in the future. But it’s different in your hands. You have a great mind for business, and you’ve learned so much by watching Dad. You’ll definitely be able to grow the Chen family’s business and make it prosper.”

”When I return to Hua Country, you’ll be the one staying by our parents’ side, so I’ll have to trouble you to take care of them. At the same time, I also have to thank you for giving me the chance to pursue my dreams. I’m leaving the family in your hands.”

Chen Wenze smiled. ”Big Brother, I admit I was judging a gentleman by my own petty standards. You’re so outstanding that I was worried Mom and Dad would like you more than me, that they would value you more than me.”

”I was even worried you’d get a bigger share of the family assets than me in the future. Thinking back on it now, my thoughts were so despicable. It’s no wonder Mom and Dad like you so much.”

Chen Wenxuan paused for a moment, then smiled. ”You really don’t have to think that way. You grew up by our parents’ side, so of course they dote on you. Their affection for me is mixed with a lot of guilt.”

”Of course, none of that is the most important thing. For me, the greatest significance of finding my birth parents was learning where I came from. Now I can move toward my destination with a clear goal and no regrets.”

”You’re still in university. You’re welcome to come visit Hua Country. When you do, you’ll definitely experience a different world, not the one you see portrayed by the foreign media that constantly smears our country.”
