The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 510: Chapter 510: Fighting, Parents Are Called

That evening, Wang Liwen and Ye Zheng looked at each other in dismay. It was just the two of them at the dinner table.

”I just got back from the hospital, and the nanny told me Ye Chen took his and Ye Ling’s luggage over to the courtyard house.” Wang Liwen didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”It’s like we raised these two sons for nothing. It saves us the trouble, I guess, but now we’re just burdening Ye Feng and Xiao Rui.”

Ye Zheng touched his belt. ”That little rascal Ye Ling is a clever one, knowing when to hide. Otherwise, I would’ve had to give him a good whipping tonight.”

Wang Liwen smiled. ”He’ll be back in a few days once we’ve cooled down. Thankfully, no one was hurt this time, or else I... Ugh, children really are a debt you can never repay!”

Ye Zheng chuckled, comforting Wang Liwen. ”Come on now. We worry about our children, but we’d be even more pitiful without them. We wouldn’t have any motivation. It’s not like now, where everything we do feels so full of purpose.”

”Our three children are all great. With the right guidance, they’re bound to become successful people. Whether they go into scientific research, politics, or the military, they all have bright futures ahead of them.”

”Don’t worry about the kids; focus on your work. I saw your hospital director last time, and he said you’re making rapid progress and achieving a lot. If a good opportunity comes up, don’t turn it down because of the children. You should actively go for it.”

”After all, the children have their lives, and you have yours. You’re in your prime right now. You should use this limited time to produce limitless achievements and realize your own potential.”

Hearing Ye Zheng’s words, Wang Liwen’s eyes reddened.

She was especially grateful now that her second uncle had found her a husband like Ye Zheng back then. Even though it was her second marriage, he was a good man in both looks and character.

”Ye Zheng, thank you for encouraging me.” Wang Liwen nodded. ”The hospital is organizing a medical team to support Africa right now. I never went before because of the children, but now I want to seriously consider it.”

”But if I leave, you sometimes have to go on business trips for ten days, half a month, or even a month or two. What will happen to the children when you’re not home? Ye Ling is in high school and boards at school, but Ye Chen is in middle school, which is also a critical time. Even with a nanny at home, it won’t work if there’s no one to supervise them.”

Ye Zheng thought for a moment. ”By the time Ye Chen gets to college, it’ll be five or six years from now. At that point, you might not have the physical stamina for medical work in Africa.”

”If you’re okay with it, we could transfer Ye Chen and Ye Ling to schools in Shencheng to live with their big brother and sister-in-law. They already have four kids, anyway. What’s one more sheep when you’re already herding a flock?”

Wang Liwen was stunned by his words. ”Ye Zheng, aren’t you being a little too shameless? We’re busy with work, so we just dump our kids on Ye Feng and Xiao Rui?”

Ye Zheng smiled. ”Actually, Ye Ling and Ye Chen can take care of themselves, and they’re very sensible. They just need someone to check in on them from time to time; it won’t take much effort. Ye Ling and Ye Chen also get along well with Pingping, An’an, Ningning, and Zhuangzhuang. Ye Feng and Xiao Rui would be happy to have them.”

Wang Liwen gave an awkward smile. ”Why don’t you talk to Ye Feng about it? If he’s not willing, then let’s just drop it. We shouldn’t put him in a difficult position!”

Whether attending school in Shencheng would affect their college entrance exams in Beijing wasn’t a concern for them.

The curriculum was more or less the same, so as long as they learned the material, it would be fine. They could just come back to Beijing to take the exams later; it would all be the same.

”Alright, I’ll ask,” Ye Zheng nodded.

And so, Ye Chen and Ye Ling settled into their big brother and sister-in-law’s courtyard house.

After the New Year’s holiday, it was time for Ye Ling to go back to school.

He didn’t want to go and earned a kick from Ye Feng. ”Big Brother, I get good grades! I don’t need to go to class to be number one. It’s rare for you guys to come to Beijing, so I want to spend more time with you.”

Ye Feng refused. ”We don’t need you to keep us company. Even if your grades are good, you need to have the right attitude. Besides, we’re going to be here for another week. You can come over on the weekend.”

Ye Ling was very reluctant, but he went to school in the end. Otherwise, his big brother would beat him up.

As for Ye Chen, he didn’t say anything, but he was watching his second brother’s every move.

If his second brother had managed to get out of going to school, he would have made the same request.

Since his big brother didn’t grant his second brother’s request, he kept his mouth shut to avoid a beating.

After seeing his brother get put in his place, Ye Chen obediently went to school.

Ye Ling was originally a boarding student, but he used the excuse of family matters to become a day student, commuting by bicycle every day.

He woke up at five in the morning and got home at seven in the evening.

Ye Ling was happy to do it.

Ye Chen, who was in middle school, also had evening self-study sessions, but he skipped them too.

The teacher called Wang Liwen, but she didn’t criticize her two sons, also saying there were family matters to attend to.

One day, Wang Liwen received another call from the teacher. Ye Chen had gotten into a fight at school.

Wang Liwen had no choice but to take time off work and go to the school.

”Teacher Li, Ye Chen must apologize to my son! Look at what he did to him!” Mrs. Zhou’s voice was shrill. Seeing her son beaten like this, her heart ached for him.

Teacher Li felt a headache coming on. ’Why isn’t Ye Chen’s parent here yet?’

Ye Chen tilted his head up defiantly, pursed his lips, and shot a glare at Zhou Qiang—a clear threat that he’d get hit again if he kept talking.

Zhou Qiang, his face black and blue, flinched and ducked behind his mother.

Seeing this, Mrs. Zhou grew even angrier. ”Teacher Li, look at him! Ye Chen still doesn’t know what he did wrong! He’s still daring to threaten my son right in front of a teacher and a parent!”

Teacher Li said hurriedly, ”Ye Chen, be serious.”

When Wang Liwen arrived, she saw her son being made to stand in the corner and knew he had gotten into trouble at school again.

”Teacher Li, I’m sorry. The traffic was a bit heavy,” Wang Liwen apologized. ”What on earth happened?”

Teacher Li breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Wang Liwen. ”Ye Chen’s mother, Ye Chen got into a fight with a classmate, Zhou Qiang, and left him with a black and blue face. I told him to apologize to Zhou Qiang, but he refuses.”

Hearing this, Wang Liwen was taken aback for a moment, then quickly asked, ”Teacher, there must be a reason for kids to fight, right? It can’t be for no reason!”

Teacher Li gave a wry smile. ”I asked, but Ye Chen won’t say.”

”Then let’s ask his classmate, Zhou Qiang. Why did Ye Chen hit him?” Wang Liwen asked. ”Zhou Qiang, you tell us.”

”I... I won’t say!” Zhou Qiang hid. His parents and the teacher couldn’t be with him every second of the day.

If he told them, Ye Chen would definitely beat him up again.

Wang Liwen turned, walked over to where her son was being punished, and twisted his ear. ”Ye Chen, what exactly happened? What is there that you can’t say? You’ve known Zhou Qiang since elementary school, and you don’t even live far from each other. You grew up together. How could you hit him?”

Ye Chen lowered his head. ”I don’t want to say.”

”If you don’t want to say, then when we get home tonight, I’ll have your dad beat you. And you can forget about going to your sister-in-law’s house anymore,” Wang Liwen said through clenched teeth. ’This son of mine is getting more and more out of hand.’

Ye Chen’s head snapped up. ”Mom, it’s not my fault! It’s because Zhou Qiang has a big mouth! He called Pingping and An’an burdens, and then he said I was a huge idiot for being too nice to those ’burdens.’”

”I might have let it slide if Zhou Qiang had said something about me, but he actually insulted my nieces. How could I let him get away with that? From now on, every time he says it, I’ll beat him up.”
