The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 517: Chapter 517: Recognition

They would find out which families in Jinshan Bay had daughters of marriageable age and introduce them to fine young men from outside the village.

Once married, the husband would move his household registration to Jinshan Bay. According to the regulations there, family members were also entitled to dividends.

The young men of Jinshan Bay also found it especially easy to find a partner.

In the past, when Jinshan Bay was poorer, finding a partner wasn’t necessarily difficult, but it was definitely not as easy as it was now.

This was one of the benefits that came with Jinshan Bay’s development.

Now, whenever the people of Jinshan Bay went out, they felt particularly proud and pleased with themselves.

After all, to receive dividends like this, and such a large amount at that—there were few places like it in all of Shencheng, let alone the entire country.

The winter break was happy yet brief, and soon it was time for the children to go back to school!

Wang Liwen’s application was approved. On the tenth day of the Lunar New Year, she packed her bags and left for Africa with the medical team.

She had originally planned to bring the two children over herself and thank Han Xiaorui again, but she had too many research materials to organize before she left.

Wang Liwen ran out of time and could only call Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng to express her gratitude.

Ye Zheng personally brought Ye Ling and Ye Chen to Shencheng and entrusted them to his older brother and sister-in-law.

Seeing this, Old Madam Xu was a little angry. ”You two are something else. One is busy with work, the other has run off to a foreign country! Dumping the kids on Ye Feng! It’s a good thing Xiao Rui is so good-tempered and kindhearted, otherwise there would have been a huge fight by now!”

Faced with his mother-in-law’s scorn, Ye Zheng didn’t get angry.

This matter was indeed an imposition on Ye Feng and Han Xiaorui, so it was only right for him to be humble.

”Mom, Dad, this is all my fault! I was the one who encouraged Liwen to focus on her work, and since I’m so busy with mine, I pushed the kids onto Ye Feng and Xiao Rui.”

Old Madam Xu rolled her eyes. ”Since Ye Feng and Xiao Rui have already agreed, my objections are useless! Can’t she do research in our own country? Does she have to go abroad to do it?!”

”It would be one thing if she were going to some developed country where she could learn advanced medical techniques. But she just had to go to Africa. What could she possibly learn there?”

Mr. Xu was also quite curious. He asked in a deep voice, ”That’s right, Ye Zheng, can you explain it to us? Is it purely for a promotion?”

Ye Zheng quickly shook his head. ”There are many paths to a promotion. She doesn’t have to go to Africa to do research! Nor does she have to provide medical aid there!”

”As everyone knows, all sorts of infectious diseases are rampant in Africa, spreading like wildfire! While providing medical aid, it’s also crucial to study them. This is absolutely necessary!”

”That’s the surface reason. There are deeper ones, too. Talk of bacteriological and viral warfare might sound alarmist in peacetime, but according to some intelligence, quite a few countries are investing in this research.”

”Our country is a force for justice and disdains using such methods in warfare. But just because we don’t use them doesn’t mean others won’t! Just because they don’t use them now doesn’t mean they won’t in the future. And just because we don’t use them doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be prepared.”

Hearing this, Mr. Xu sat up straight, his expression turning solemn.

”Now that, I understand! Back during the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Japanese devils used bacteriological and viral warfare right here in our country! Malaria, cholera, plague...”

”They even used living Chinese people for experiments! This all really happened back then! After Japan was defeated, they handed all that data over to the United States to reduce their punishment!”

Hearing this, Old Madam Xu set aside her earlier sarcasm and said in a heavy tone, ”If Wang Liwen is going to Africa to do something so important, for the sake of medical progress and human development, then we really should support her.”

”I never would have thought that Wang Liwen, at just over one-and-a-half meters tall, could have such great research achievements in medicine! You really can’t judge a book by its cover!”

Ye Zheng smiled. ”Mom, our thinking is very simple right now. We just want to work hard. While serving the public and the country, we can also provide a better future for our own children!”

”Ye Feng is in business now. Although he has other identities on the side, on the surface he doesn’t have much to do with the government or the military. In the future, Ye Ling and Ye Chen will also forge their own paths in different fields.”

”Ye Feng and Xiao Rui have four children now. As for their future, who knows what it will hold! All we can do is our best in the present, giving it our all.”

Mr. Xu also nodded. ”That’s right! Development is so rapid these days, no one knows what the future will be like! Doing your best in the present is already quite an accomplishment!”

Having gained the support of his parents-in-law, Ye Zheng breathed a sigh of relief.

He also had a deep conversation with Ye Feng and Han Xiaorui. ”My work will be very busy from now on, and I’ll be traveling a lot. I’ll try to visit you when I pass through Shencheng. But if I don’t have time, please don’t hold it against me.”

Han Xiaorui smiled. ”You’re in such a high position now, and so busy with work, with no one around to take care of you! We’d only worry about you, how could we ever blame you?”

”You can rest completely assured with Ye Ling and Ye Chen living with us. I’ll keep an eye on everything, from their daily lives to their studies! You and Aunt Wang don’t need to worry!”

Ye Zheng glanced at his father. ”I’m in very close contact with some partners in the Soviet Union and have gotten some news from there! Western infiltration and influence in the Soviet Union is immense, and honestly, it’s not much different here in our own country.”

”When you’re dealing with various issues, don’t be impulsive! I believe stability is the most important thing. What we lack is time. Without a stable environment, how can we even talk about development?”

Ye Zheng knew far more than Ye Feng, but there were some things he couldn’t say. ”I know,” Ye Feng replied. ”I’m also a firm believer that stability outweighs everything.”

Ye Zheng continued, ”I’m a pragmatist. I see things more clearly and won’t be fooled by appearances! Actually, there’s another benefit to sending Ye Chen and Ye Ling to you. If they’re not used against me, my hands won’t be tied.”

Before leaving, Ye Zheng called his two sons over again. ”I know you like Shencheng and wanted to study here. Since I won’t be around, you must listen to your big brother and sister-in-law!”

”If you don’t behave, your brother will hit you even harder than I would! I hope you’ll take that as a warning and not test your big brother’s limits!”

Ye Ling had been on the receiving end of a beating before, so he certainly knew his big brother wasn’t just making idle threats.

”Dad, I understand! Mom is in Africa providing medical aid, and you’re busy with work. I’ll take care of myself and my little brother, and I’ll listen to Big Brother and Big Sister-in-law.”

Ye Chen was especially happy. ”Dad, don’t you worry! I promise to listen to my brother and sister-in-law and I absolutely won’t cause them any trouble. You’re all alone now, so please take care of yourself. You have to listen to the doctor and Uncle Xiao Zheng.”

Ye Zheng nodded. ”I know, I know! You little brat, lecturing your old man now, are you!”

After getting his two sons settled, Ye Zheng took a flight back to Beijing the next day.

The work that followed was extremely important and also very busy.

With his wife and sons away, Ye Zheng was free from distractions. He threw himself completely into his work, allowing him to maintain precise control of the situation.

He had already gained the upper hand, laying a solid foundation for the next step forward.
