The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 542: Chapter 542: Shouldn’t You Reflect?

Professor Ai Wen was in disbelief. ”My goodness! To give the children a good social environment, you opened a kindergarten, and now you’ve opened a special education intervention school specifically for them.”

Han Xiaoqing replied, ”Our efforts are multifaceted. A normal educational environment is just one part of it; what’s more important is being there for them.”

”When a child hits a plateau and becomes unwilling to learn, you can use a combination of threats and incentives to make them either like learning or be afraid of adults and thus have no choice but to learn.”

”Once they get past it, it’s a huge step forward for the child. If the adults are soft-hearted and can’t bring themselves to do it, these children, who lack the ability to progress on their own, will often just remain stuck in their comfort zones. Without external force, they simply won’t improve.”

Professor Ai Wen nodded. ”All along, we here have insisted on persuasive education, never resorting to harsh methods. We’ve always felt that was the right approach.”

”But recently, a friend of mine conducted a study and found that when a child misbehaves or can’t focus, a light smack on their palm or bottom can effectively help them correct their mistake and concentrate.”

”Therefore, my friend concluded that when persuasive education fails, giving the child an appropriate lesson, or punishing them on non-vital areas like the palm or bottom, is very effective.”

Han Xiaoqing agreed with the professor’s words, because Pingping, An’an, and Wenjun had also gone through such stages.

Sometimes they would get lost in their own thoughts, open their mouths, and wail, though often they didn’t even know what they were crying about.

A gentle but firm pat on their bottoms could make them stop crying instantly, pulling their minds out of that self-enclosed state.

Furthermore, in the intervention process for children with cerebral palsy or other motor impairments, this kind of forceful command is necessary.

This is because the rehabilitation process is complex and arduous, and can even be painful and exhausting.

Many children will have the urge to escape; it’s an instinctive reaction.

They need external pressure to compel them to keep going.

Han Xiaorui learned about Professor Ai Wen from her younger sister. She already felt that Pingping, An’an, and Wenjun were no different from normal children.

As long as they kept up the current pace, everything would be fine.

Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng were overjoyed, and Liang Xiaoyu’s eyes reddened with emotion.

Now that even a foreign expert thought the children were better, she could finally be at ease.

While Han Xiaoqing was taking her niece and Cai Wenjun for their check-up, Mrs. Chen and Mr. Chen arrived at Chen Wenxuan’s home.

Mrs. Chen asked curiously, ”Wenxuan, are you home alone?”

Chen Wenxuan nodded. ”Yes, Xiao Jing took her older sister, brother-in-law, and the children to see Professor Ai Wen!”

Hearing this, Mrs. Chen breathed a sigh of relief. She wouldn’t have to face the headstrong Han Xiaorui.

”Wenxuan, I truly didn’t mean to slight Xiao Jing! You mustn’t misunderstand me!”

Chen Wenxuan raised an eyebrow at her words. ”Mother, if only what you thought in your heart matched the words coming out of your mouth!”

Mrs. Chen’s heart skipped a beat. ”Wenxuan, I’m your mother, I would never harm you! My original intention for everything I do is for your own good!”

Chen Wenxuan chuckled. ”Yes, I can’t really blame you for your attitude and actions! After all, I only just found out about them myself. I never even noticed before.”

”From the very beginning, I made my position clear, and I thought you had already agreed. I will not be staying in Germany; I will be returning to Hua Country. While the material life here might be better, that isn’t important to me.”

”My dream is to use the knowledge I’ve acquired to build up my country, to make it stronger and more prosperous, and to contribute my part during Hua Country’s rise.”

Mrs. Chen’s breathing grew ragged. A sister of hers had once been the same, and she ended up dying on the path to her ideals. ”Every man for himself, and the devil take the hindmost! Shouldn’t you focus on establishing yourself first before you talk about your ideals?”

”There are some things I don’t want to repeat, but I want to tell you, whether it was the Chen family back then or my own family, we were forced to leave because others seized our property by force.”

”If those things hadn’t happened, we wouldn’t have been separated, mother and son. Do you think a country like that is worth sacrificing your personal future for?”

Chen Wenxuan chuckled at her words. ”The establishment of any new system necessarily requires the overthrow of the corrupt system that came before it. It’s just like how the ancestors of the Chen family actively participated in the revolution to overthrow the Qing Government.”

”And on that foundation, they entered politics, business, and the military, gradually becoming a great clan. They accumulated more and more assets and capital, their exploitation and oppression of the people grew more severe, and yet they were exceptionally weak in foreign affairs, even helping foreigners oppress their own countrymen.”

”Later, New China was established. It overthrew the old, corrupt system and founded a state based on public ownership! The people became the masters of the country. For the class that was part of that corrupt old system, it was a case of ’to the victor go the spoils.’ That’s just the law of social development!”

A mocking tone entered Mrs. Chen’s voice. ”Then look now. The so-called advanced system you speak of—Mao Bear was so enormous, didn’t it collapse all the same?”

”And what about Hua Country? Isn’t it attracting foreign investment and opening up its economy now, too? Besides, look at how developed Europe and America are, and then look at how backward Hua Country is. Which system is more advanced?”

”Even your neighbor, India, has a better external environment than Hua Country. And look at the Southeast Asian countries; they’re also better off than Huaguo over there.”

”Even the baldies who were defeated and fled to the island are developing better than you are now, to say nothing of developed countries like Japan and Germany. Wenxuan, don’t you think you should reflect on that?”

Faced with his mother’s skepticism, Chen Wenxuan smiled. Far from being disheartened, his eyes grew even brighter.

”The development of anything is never smooth sailing or accomplished in a single step! Our rise is the same!”

”All development and rising power must be built on a foundation of independence and self-reliance. So what if Japan developed? Can’t the United States fleece them whenever they want? They even have US troops stationed there. They’re nothing but watchdogs!”

”And as for Germany, no matter how powerful its industry is, it’s a defeated nation from World War II. It has no military autonomy and no nuclear weapons. Its fate is to be a vassal. In the future, it will be even worse off than France and Italy, who are always quick to raise their hands and surrender!”

Mrs. Chen was dumbfounded. ”How could you possibly come to such a conclusion?”

Chen Wenxuan smiled. ”Based on my analysis of the international situation, my understanding of the great power games, the foundation of our Hua Country’s five-thousand-year history, and the ideological theories of our great leaders! Even though I’m a science student, I have a basic grasp of these fundamental strategies.”

”How do you know these so-called predictions of yours are correct?” Mrs. Chen retorted.

Chen Wenxuan was full of confidence. ”Long before Mao Bear collapsed, my brother-in-law Ye Feng and I predicted it would happen. Now, Hua Country is learning from that experience and has targeted strategies. Therefore, we will inevitably triumph and grow strong!”
