Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2028: Chapter 2029: What About You? When?

”Hmm, we are looking for you. Come over here, we have something to ask you.” An Jing smiled and waved Su Yixing over, indicating for him to sit next to her.

Su Yixing’s heart was pounding. Could it be that his parents found out about his secret marriage? Otherwise, why would they only call for him?

”Star.” An Jing sighed.

”Huh?” Su Yixing felt like he was sitting on pins and needles.

With Xiao Changyi having already finished writing the letter, he put down the brush and also came over to sit next to him. This made Su Yixing even more anxious due to his guilty conscience.

”Your fourth brother suddenly resigned from his post and has become so thin. You need to be honest with your father and me—is something wrong with your fourth brother’s health...” As she spoke, An Jing’s voice choked up. She was really afraid of outliving her child.

Xiao Changyi pursed his lips into a straight line.

Hearing that it was about An Yiyun, Su Yixing let out a big sigh of relief and quickly reassured, ”Mom, don’t overthink. Fourth brother’s health is fine.”

”If he’s fine, why did he resign? We’ve tried persuading him so many times before, and he never resigned. Something must be wrong.” An Jing did not believe him at all.

Su Yixing was at his wit’s end and could only truthfully say, ”There was an issue before, but now as long as he rests well and doesn’t overexert himself, he’ll be fine.”

An Jing immediately caught the key point and asked, ”What was the issue before?”

”I’m telling you, but you mustn’t get upset.” Su Yixing spoke in a negotiating tone.

But An Jing became even more anxious: ”Just tell us!”

Su Yixing could only express helplessness as he said, ”Previously, fourth brother was coughing up blood and fainted... Mom, mom, mom, I just said that fourth brother is fine now, why are you crying?”

Seeing An Jing’s eyes turn red, Su Yixing became extremely anxious, just fearing his mom would cry.

”You said he was coughing up blood and fainted; how could I, as his mother, not feel distressed...” Although she ultimately didn’t cry, An Jing’s voice was choked up again. She now had only one worry, which was her family’s fourth son’s health.

Xiao Changyi also felt very upset inside.

Su Yixing was actually very distressed, too. After studying medicine for so many years, he still couldn’t cure his fourth brother, but he still spoke up: ”Fourth brother is truly fine now. It’s just that his body can’t take any more strain, which is why he resigned. He doesn’t want you to experience such heartbreak. In the future, we’ll just make sure he doesn’t overwork, isn’t that right? Mom, don’t be sad. Fourth brother has come to terms with it now, otherwise, he wouldn’t decide to marry Wen Ya right after resigning. Isn’t marrying Wen Ya all about wanting to live a good life together? Don’t you think so?”

An Jing nodded, sniffed, and took a while to calm down her emotions.

When she spoke again, she was smiling: ”It’s good that your fourth brother has come to terms with it; your father and I can be at ease.”

After a pause, she asked with a smile, ”Your third brother and fourth brother are getting married next January. What about you? When will you?”

Su Yixing immediately gave a dry laugh: ”I want to, but there’s a Woodhead who hasn’t woken up yet.”

An Jing laughed and said, ”Your father and I were hoping for three happy events at once, but your situation is not the same as your third and fourth brothers’. With them, it’s mutual love. You... sigh... we won’t force you, but are you really planning to hang on this unawakened tree, Qingyi, for life?”

Su Yixing really wanted to say he and Huo Qingyi were already married but didn’t dare to say it. It’s important to know that he and Huo Qingyi got married secretly. He hadn’t told his parents at all, and as a son, to get married without telling his parents, he didn’t need to think to know that his parents would definitely be angry.
