Chapter 2022: Chapter 2023: I Quit This Official Post

Thinking like this, An Yiyun’s throat choked even more, so much that it began to ache.

It might be best to resign from this official position.

Everyone has worried enough about him, and he cannot let them worry any longer. Especially his parents.

”Fourth brother, your body can no longer endure any exertion, you should...”

Before An Yiqi could finish, An Yiyun, whose face was as pale as paper and had grown so thin that he looked out of shape, nodded and slowly, yet gently, said, ”I understand what you all mean, I will resign. I will not hold this position anymore.”

An Yiyun’s decisiveness made everyone feel even worse.

Yet An Yiyun smiled, ”Once I’ve resigned, I’ll go back, just like elder brother, and accompany our parents.”

No matter how big or grand the Royal Palace is, it cannot compare to being by his parents’ side. Moreover, as a son, he should naturally serve his parents.

Su Yixing nodded, ”It’s good to be by their side, at least they won’t have to worry about you all day long.”

An Yiyun gave a bitter smile, ”Second brother, am I not filial?”

Su Yixing shook his head, ”Our parents never thought you were unfilial, nor did we. From now on, just rest and recuperate with peace of mind. Don’t think about those irrelevant things. Whether or not you consider yourself useless, to us, you are our brother.”

”Yes, third brother, stop overthinking,” An Yiqing also spoke up, ”You’re unwell, but you’re definitely not useless. If you were useless, could you have become the Top Scholar in the Three Vein Exam? Could you have been appointed as Prime Minister? Could you have, at such a young age, earned the love of the common people? Everyone can see with their eyes your talent, your ability, and the tangible good deeds you have done for the people over the years occupying high positions. No one has ever thought you useless; only you have been troubled by your own health issues, which are congenital and not your fault. Why torment yourself over this?”

”Exactly, exactly!” An Yiqi, An Yilin, and An Yizhi all nodded approvingly.

An Yiyun smiled again. This time, the smile carried no bitterness. First, he let out a sigh and then said, ”I don’t know if it’s because I’ve aged or if you have really persuaded me, but I feel a lightness like never before.”

Whether he is useless or not, his brothers and parents will never abandon him and leave him alone.

An Yiqi jested exaggeratedly, ”It must be because of aging.”

”Haha...” Everyone burst out laughing, including An Yiyun. They are family, they are brothers, no matter how much they argue on ordinary days, what lies between them is more of care, concern, and deep fraternal love.

...

The next day, early in the morning, Wang Haomiao accompanied Wang Wenya to the Royal Palace. Since the Jiancheng Mansion was quite far from the Royal Palace, by the time Wang Haomiao and Wang Wenya arrived, the sun was already high in the sky.

As soon as Wang Wenya saw An Yiyun lying in bed, her eyes turned red. It showed that, despite Wang Haomiao’s best attempts to console her, and despite her belief in his words, she still could not help but worry about An Yiyun.

Seeing Wang Wenya with red eyes, everyone left the room, leaving Wang Wenya and An Yiyun alone.

Wang Wenya did not speak but simply sat silently on a round stool by the bed, wiping her tears.

Seeing Wang Wenya like this, An Yiyun felt very heartbroken. All along, Wang Wenya had been like this, never saying much, never disturbing or making a fuss, even when sad.

She truly is a good child.

She has been like this since she was little.

Her brother, Wang Haomiao, was also very obedient as a child, and he liked children who were both good and obedient. Thus, back then, he often played with Wang Haomiao, naturally forming a good relationship with him.
