Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2011: Chapter 2012: Urging Marriage

Wen Ya got up to go to the courtyard where An Yiqing lives.

...

On the first of June, Su Yixing and Huo Qingyi arrived at the Imperial City. On this day, An Yiyun was on leave at home, and Su Yixing immediately took An Yiyun’s pulse, only to find out that An Yiyun’s health had worsened again.

An Yiyun’s health was subpar from birth and there’s no way to completely cure it. Even if treated, it can only become similar to a weak scholar’s body, but due to An Yiyun’s dedication to being an official over the years, the exhaustion has made his previously decent health worse.

After taking An Yiyun’s pulse and seeing his pale face, Su Yixing said, ”You should consider resigning.”

An Yiyun smiled and said, ”Second Brother, just give me a little more time, I can still endure it.”

Su Yixing said, ”Endure it? Your body has long been unable to endure, otherwise, you wouldn’t be getting sick so often now.”

”Second Brother...” An Yiyun could only smile wryly.

Not wanting to see him like this, Su Yixing relented, ”I know you’re aware of your condition, but you should know that everyone is worried about you, especially Dad and Mom.” Pausing, ”When you truly can’t hold on anymore, you absolutely must not force yourself.”

”Hmm.” An Yiyun nodded, agreeing. He wants to ensure his parents won’t have to send their child off.

”You’re on leave today, so make sure to rest well and don’t stress about work.” Su Yixing took the documents from An Yiyun’s hands, preventing him from reading.

An Yiyun didn’t read them. But he planned, once everyone left his courtyard, he’d look at them again.

Su Yixing also prescribed some medicine for recuperating and urged An Yiyun to take it. An Yiyun agreed.

He took the medicine regularly, without wasting a drop, as his body is not like that of ordinary people.

Wanting An Yiyun to rest well, Su Yixing didn’t stay long in his courtyard, just chatted briefly before gathering everyone to leave with him, going to his own courtyard.

Once at his courtyard, Gong Le jovially asked, ”Brother Xing, when will you get married? It’s already the first of June, and another half year I’ll be sixteen and ready for marriage.”

Su Yixing didn’t respond to Gong Le immediately and said to Huo Qingyi, ”After traveling all this way, you must be tired, go rest.”

Huo Qingyi obediently went to rest.

After Huo Qingyi vanished from sight and they were seated in the main hall, Su Yixing pretended not to understand Gong Le and said, ”What does you getting married have to do with me? It’s not like I’m marrying you.”

Gong Le said, ”Aren’t you Brother Qing’s second brother? If you don’t get married, how can Brother Qing and I get married?”

Su Yixing laughed, ”Aren’t you shy at all? What girl is in such a hurry to get married?”

An Yiqi laughed and chimed in, ”She’s never been shy, every day she’s always going on about how much she likes Brother Qing.”

An Yiqing just smiled.

Gong Le didn’t mind being teased, and while sitting next to An Yiqing, she continued to grin, ”I really do like Brother Qing! Besides, I’m already considered an old maid, others get married at thirteen or fourteen, of course I’m anxious.”

”Your mom married your dad when she was almost thirty.” Su Yixing reminded her.

Gong Le said, ”My mom only realized her feelings for my dad at that time, but Brother Qing and I already understand each other’s feelings, so why can’t we marry early?”

Su Yixing took a sip of tea and said leisurely, ”Because I, as the second brother, haven’t gotten married yet.”
