The Wealthy Tycoon's Game of Life

Chapter 1398: Chapter 544: Sober (2)

However, after knocking, Mu Li discovered that Zhou Wang was not in the room.

”Mr. Zhou said he wanted to go for a walk alone, so he didn’t let me follow...”

Faced with Mu Li’s inquiry, Lisa explained softly.

Mu Li nodded and was about to turn and leave when she suddenly noticed large wrinkles on the sheets. She paused and turned her surprised gaze toward Lisa.

”Earlier... were you resting with Mr. Zhou?”

”Yes, but...”

Lisa nodded. Seeing a hint of joy in Mu Li’s eyes, she hesitated whether to clarify that nothing really happened between them when suddenly Mu Li’s phone rang.

”President Mu, could you come to the banquet hall? The Mr. Zhou you specifically mentioned seems to have had some conflict with Mr. Li and Mr. Huo...”

A slightly anxious voice came from the yacht steward, Old Xu.

”What?”

Mu Li’s face changed drastically, and no longer caring about what Lisa wanted to say, she quickly hung up and hurried out the door.

...

Time went back to twenty minutes earlier.

Under Wang Jia’s lead, Ah Gui, Ah Jie, and Sun Xining entered the main hall and sat in the booth with the best view.

While the ingratiating Wang Jia exchanged pleasantries with those in the booth, Sun Xining, out of curiosity, took out her phone to search for ”Huo Chengrui.”

In today’s information-rich age, almost nothing is unfindable online. Especially with Hong Kong Island’s unique ecosystem, heirs of prominent families are to some degree public figures, so Sun Xining easily found information about Huo Chengrui.

”Second heir of the Huo family...”

”Father Huo Yingxiong, Chairman of Huo Group on Hong Kong Island, founding member of Hong Kong Island’s renowned private equity council...”

”Total assets: 18 billion US Dollars...”

The plethora of information meant little to Sun Xining, but the ”18 billion US Dollars” figure gave her quite a shock.

Though she was accustomed to spending lavishly, she wasn’t entirely without a concept of money.

billion US Dollars converted to RMB is over a hundred billion, an astronomical number unimaginable to an average person.

Seeing this information, Sun Xining couldn’t help but glance at Huo Chengrui several times.

But soon, out of boredom, Sun Xining withdrew her gaze.

Huo Chengrui was in his early thirties, with looks that could be described as average, and a noticeable beer belly. Yet, due to his upbringing, his demeanor was decent, slightly better than the average greasy middle-aged man.

But Sun Xining immediately noticed the small white indentation on the ring finger of his left hand holding a champagne glass, a mark from wearing a ring for a long time.

Could Huo Chengrui not afford a ring of the right size?

Of course not.

This indicated that the ring he took off had been worn for a long time, but due to weight gain and other reasons, the size had become unsuitable.

Such a man, clearly married yet pretending to be single while out playing, was one Sun Xining had seen plenty of.

This disgusted her a bit.

She didn’t find anything wrong with men having affairs, even considering it normal, especially for successful men, most of whom have flaws. She just instinctively disliked men who played around outside yet insisted on maintaining a facade of being single.

Like herself, during high school, rumors of her having a sugar daddy were rampant, yet she never shied away from the topic.

Even when Zhou Wang asked her, she candidly admitted it.

I might be a bad girl, but at least I’m not hypocritical.

Also, there’s Huo Chengrui’s status as the ”heir in line.” Sun Xining had not dealt with such high-level wealthy heirs before, but she was clear about one thing: being an ”heir” meant he was still on the path to ”inheriting.” No matter how much money the Huo family had, it wasn’t his yet...

Sun Xining is materialistic, but she’s also clear-headed.

To her, such a halfway-heir is not as good as a small boss who has some money.

At least when someone like that manages their assets, they have full authority.

Ah Jie and his cousin Wang Jia did not realize that while they whispered, Sun Xining, who was deliberately close, overheard some of their conversation. Coupled with the way Wang Jia looked at her, Sun Xining’s experience allowed her to instantly infer a lot.

If Huo Chengrui were truly outstanding and her ideal type, Sun Xining wouldn’t mind playing along for some benefits.

But as it stands, Sun Xining felt a bit disappointed and showed little interest in Huo Chengrui...

There was another deeper reason she avoided thinking about.

While she observed Huo Chengrui, she continuously compared him to someone else in her mind.

Yes, that man she deliberately avoided thinking about, seemed to have turned into an invisible benchmark, completely overshadowing Huo Chengrui in moments like this.

Having been in Peng City for several months, Sun Xining had been longing for a fresh start.

Yet only she knew that her mental starting point was always that night of the class reunion in Jing City, when he became a shareholder of hers...

Thinking about this, Sun Xining felt a bit troubled.

Clearly, she was the ”bad girl,” so why was she stuck in a whirlpool of pure feelings, unable to break free?

Zhou Wang had probably forgotten about her long ago.

”Ningning, why are you sitting there alone? Come, join us for a drink... how about toasting Mr. Huo over here?”

At this point, Ah Jie called her, and Sun Xining looked up to find a hint of awkwardness on Ah Jie’s face.

Next to him sat his cousin Wang Jia, who had evidently said something to him in the brief intervening moments, making Ah Jie realize his intent and needing to muster enough courage to go along.

Upon hearing Wang Jia’s cousin’s invitation, Huo Chengrui and the others joined in the conversation, casting interested gazes towards her.

Indeed, Sun Xining possessed a rare, innocent face. Though her attire showed a certain deliberation, unless one was an expert in interpreting expressions, anyone seeing her would instinctively think, ”This girl must be very pure.”

Including Huo Chengrui.

He had been with many women, but given his wealth and status, most girls were the ones who approached him, sparing him from needing to actively seek to understand women’s minds. So even he was momentarily deceived by Sun Xining.

Beside him, Mr. Li, who came from an equally illustrious background, winked at him, ”A rare find, Chengrui, you’re lucky tonight!”

Huo Chengrui was also very pleased, even patting Wang Jia on the shoulder because of this.

Wang Jia had only recently started hanging out with Huo Chengrui and his group.

On account of his father Wang Chengyun’s instructions, Wang Jia had quite the responsibility today to ensure Huo Chengrui and the group were well entertained.

Through indirect inquiries, he gathered detailed insights into Mr. Huo’s preferences, knowing he had zero interest in yacht models, but had a penchant for ”decent ladies.”

This initially baffled Wang Jia quite a lot.

Luckily, his useful cousin came through, initially having no expectations, only to find that he truly did bring along a rarity.

Even though Sun Xining was internally uninterested, out of courtesy, she picked up her wine glass and approached the group, ready to toast Huo Chengrui.

”Miss Sun, are you still in school?”

Huo Chengrui asked with a smile as they clinked glasses.

”No, I just graduated this year...”

Sun Xining replied, just about to drink her glass in one go when, out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly caught a glimpse of a familiar yet unfamiliar figure.

Unfamiliar because it had been a while since she’d seen him, familiar because he sporadically appeared in her vividly emotional dreams...

Sun Xining’s small mouth slightly opened, never expecting Zhou Wang to suddenly appear here. The brief loss of focus caused her fingers to relax, and the glass slipped from her hand, ”smack,” falling onto the table.
