Wizard: Grinding from Knight to Primogenitor

Chapter 108: Chapter 106: A Decision Against the Ancestors

’I’ve finally mastered my first magic spell!’

Roy mused, looking at the Skill Level information for the Beast Taming Skill that appeared before him.

More than half a year had passed since he began his Cultivation of the Purgatory Dragon Meditation Method.

Yet it was only now that he had finally mastered the first magic spell of his life.

Even though the Beast Taming Skill was just a Level Zero Trick and not an offensive spell, he was still quite satisfied.

As the old saying goes, the first one leads to a second!

More importantly, now that he had mastered the Beast Taming Skill, he could finally be considered a Wizard Apprentice capable of casting magic.

He took a few deep breaths to calm himself, then closed the Skill Proficiency Panel.

Instead of continuing to practice the Beast Taming Skill, he sat down in the middle of Chaos Square, closed his eyes, and began his Cultivation of the Purgatory Dragon Meditation Method.

He had already used up more than half of his Spiritual Power.

If he kept practicing the Beast Taming Skill, he wouldn’t manage many more attempts before his Spiritual Power was completely drained.

That being the case, it was better to recover his spent Spiritual Power first before resuming his practice of the Beast Taming Skill.

「Time flew by.」

More than two hours passed in the blink of an eye.

Roy stopped his Meditation and glanced at the Skill Proficiency Panel.

[Purgatory Dragon Meditation Method Skill Level +773]

[Purgatory Dragon Meditation Method (Incomplete): Tier Nine (3245/80000)]

Previously, the Cultivation efficiency of his Meditation Technique had been much higher than his Breathing Technique.

However, as his Life Seeds increased in Level, the Cultivation efficiency of the Breathing Technique began to surpass that of the Meditation Technique.

Now, an hour of cultivating his Breathing Technique could raise its Skill Level by about 450 points.

Meanwhile, an hour of cultivating his Meditation Technique only raised its Skill Level by about 350 points.

Roy wasn’t bothered that the Meditation Technique’s Cultivation efficiency had been surpassed by the Breathing Technique.

In fact, he would have found it strange if the Breathing Technique’s Cultivation efficiency *hadn’t* eventually surpassed the Meditation Technique’s.

’Take my current situation, for example.’

He now possessed four Life Seeds: a Tier Eight Frost Moon Silver Wolf Seed, a Tier Eight Horror Claw Bear Seed, a Tier Three Giant Monster Seed, and a Tier One Giant-Horned Rhinoceros Seed.

The boost provided by the Giant Monster Seed and the Giant-Horned Rhinoceros Seed was negligible.

But the Frost Moon Silver Wolf Seed and the Horror Claw Bear Seed were both genuine Tier Eight Seeds.

In terms of tier, these two Breathing Techniques were one tier lower than the Purgatory Dragon Meditation Method.

But the combination of the Frost Moon Silver Wolf Seed and the Horror Claw Bear Seed produced a result where one plus one was greater than two.

More importantly, the Purgatory Dragon Meditation Method he possessed was an incomplete version.

Although its twelve Will Runes were enough to raise his Spiritual Power to the peak of a Third-class Apprentice and meet the requirements for crafting any Basic Potion, the Purgatory Dragon Meditation Method’s content for the Apprentice Stage consisted of more than just Will Runes; there were other things as well.

For example, it was supposed to include corresponding Level Zero Tricks and Wizard’s Knowledge, among other things.

After closing the Skill Proficiency Panel, Roy immediately began manipulating his Spiritual Power to construct the Magic Model for the Beast Taming Skill, without a moment’s hesitation.

His Spiritual Power had fully recovered, and he planned to test just how many times he could cast the Beast Taming Skill with his reserves full. From that, he could calculate the maximum Skill Level he could gain for the skill in one go.

In less than a minute, he successfully constructed the Magic Model for the Beast Taming Skill and unleashed it.

This wasn’t fast; in fact, it was a bit slow.

But Roy wasn’t too concerned.

As his Skill Level in the Beast Taming Skill increased, his speed at constructing the Magic Model would naturally increase as well.

Once he advanced to the rank of Official Wizard, he would even be able to construct the Magic Model for a Level Zero Trick instantly.

[Beast Taming Skill Skill Level +2]

Upon the successful casting of the Beast Taming Skill, the Skill Proficiency Panel immediately displayed the notification for the Skill Level increase.

’Only 2 points of Skill Level per cast?’

Roy frowned slightly.

While this was more efficient than his Secret Techniques, which only yielded 1 point per use, he was still somewhat dissatisfied.

After all, he could use his Secret Techniques hundreds of times in a row, whereas he definitely couldn’t cast a spell that many times.

Never mind a mere Wizard Apprentice like himself—even an Official Wizard couldn’t cast a hundred Level Zero Tricks in a row.

Pushing down his frustration, Roy continued to cast the Beast Taming Skill.

[Beast Taming Skill Skill Level +2]

[Beast Taming Skill Skill Level +2]

[Beast Taming Skill Skill Level +2]

...

After casting the Beast Taming Skill only eight times, Roy felt his Spiritual Power drain completely, a sharp, needle-like pain piercing his mind.

As soon as he felt the pain, he decisively ended the test. He opened the Skill Proficiency Panel again, his eyes focusing on the entry for the Beast Taming Skill.

[Beast Taming Skill: Tier One (18/1000)]

Looking at the Skill Level for his Beast Taming Skill, Roy sighed in resignation.

At his current Spiritual Power level, he could cast the Beast Taming Skill a maximum of eight times per session.

And it took three hours to fully recover his Spiritual Power.

In other words, even if he completely neglected his Breathing Technique Cultivation, the most he could increase his Beast Taming Skill’s Skill Level in a day was 128 points.

If he only dedicated six hours a day to his Meditation Technique, he could only raise the Beast Taming Skill’s Skill Level by 32 points.

This rate of progress couldn’t compare to his Breathing and Meditation Techniques, and it was far inferior even to his Secret Techniques and Forging.

He felt a sense of helplessness, but for now, he had no choice but to accept it.

Closing the Skill Proficiency Panel, Roy once again began his Cultivation of the Purgatory Dragon Meditation Method.

Once his Spiritual Power was fully restored, he glanced toward the gray fog shrouding Chaos Square and checked on his guest room.

After confirming there was no one else in the room, he left Chaos Square and returned.

...

「Noon, five days later.」

In the dining hall on the first floor of Ice Wolf Castle, Roy, who had returned not long ago, was enjoying lunch with Tony and Erin.

”Weren’t you supposed to be visiting the Dark Night Knight? Why did you run off to the Snow Fox Domain to find Baron Snow Fox, Miria?”

Tony asked slowly, looking at Roy with a puzzled expression.

”My master didn’t give me any other assignments. He just told me to continue my Cultivation and advance to Great Knight as quickly as possible.”

”Shortly after meeting with my master, I received a message from Miria. She hoped I would come to the Snow Fox Domain to help her deal with the Three-headed Dog problem.”

”I didn’t have anything else to do, so I made the trip to the Snow Fox Domain.”

Roy replied at a measured pace.

Tony hadn’t known Roy was in the Snow Fox Domain at first.

However, Tony found out once the news about the Three-headed Dog started to spread.

After hearing his reply, Tony pressed on. ”You didn’t go to the Snow Fox Domain just to help Miria tame a Three-headed Dog, did you?”

”Now everyone is saying you’re going to marry her.”

”After Catherine heard about it, she even sent a Raven specifically to ask me if it was true.”

Tony had never met Miria, but he felt Catherine was a much better match for Roy.

For one thing, Miria was only a Baron, while Catherine was a Count.

He never would have imagined that Roy had made a decision that defied all their ancestors’ traditions and was planning to marry them both.

Roy set down his knife and fork, took a sip of red wine, and said slowly, ”I do intend to marry Miria, but not right now.”

”And I’m going to marry Catherine, too.”

What?

A look of shock immediately appeared on Tony’s face.

Whether it was himself, the Old Ice Wolf Baron, or any other ancestor of the Wesley Clan, they had all strictly adhered to the principle of monogamy.

Even if a wife passed away, as long as she had left behind an heir, they would not take another wife.

The Old Ice Wolf Baron was a perfect example.

To other noble families, this practice of the Wesley Clan was considered peculiar.

But within the Wesley Clan, this tradition had been upheld for hundreds of years.

And now, that centuries-old tradition of monogamy was about to end with Roy.

”Are you serious?”

Tony asked, his brow furrowed.

”Of course I’m serious.”

”Breaking the Wesley Clan’s tradition to marry them both is better than being a scumbag who beds them and then refuses to take responsibility.”

Roy replied nonchalantly.
