Surviving The Fourth Calamity

After Ruth arranged the internal affairs of the faction, he gently informed everyone, ”I know, some of you wish to bring your families with you to the Sia Tower.

Some of you feel the future is unknown and want to temporarily arrange for your families to stay in the vacated Outer Tower area.

This is all understandable.

However, everything must wait until the official announcement from the Sia Tower is released.

At this stage, no one knows which side will prevail over there... We are choosing a more suitable place for survival for our future, not to be someone else’s cannon fodder... So, don’t say things you shouldn’t say to irrelevant persons before that.”

He glanced at Gilbert, ”Since Felis is truly suited to the Dark Enigma Tower’s meditation method, you should give him these books!

These are all Common Magic Books of the Dark Enigma Tower that I have modified with Standard Runes during this period.”

Hilbert reached out his hands and took the floating books, ”The Archmage Karmante over there...”

”As long as Prutt is still alive, make sure Felis doesn’t appear,” Ruth laughed, ”Karmante Tower doesn’t want to deal with these things, but he also doesn’t want anyone bringing unnecessary matters to his ears.

I just don’t want to waste a rare good talent... It’s been many years since Dark Enigma Tower received an apprentice with compatible nature!

Even if one appears, having such talent is quite nice.”

Hilbert nodded, ”Alright then.

Ah... My underground passages, the original entrances have all been sealed, and the unlocking runes have been changed to...”

”You don’t need to tell me, nor do you need to tell Oliva,” Ruth shook his head, ”If it were in the past, I certainly wouldn’t hope for there to be any place in the Dark Enigma Tower that I couldn’t control.

But now... there’s no such need.

After I leave, who knows what the Dark Enigma Tower will become?”

His regret overflowed from his expression, and Hilbert quietly lowered his head: he could only bow his head.

Otherwise, Hill really suspected that even if he had a layer of virtual skin on his body, he wouldn’t be able to control his twitching mouth... As someone with a basic understanding of the Night Mist Tower, Hill could feel just how strong Ruth’s control over the entire Dark Enigma Tower was as its master.

Although digging deeper underground, like Hill did, could indeed obscure Ruth’s vision somewhat, as long as it rose to about 10 meters from the surface, Ruth would definitely not lose his sight.

And as for tunneling... who else could directly enter the underground depths without digging like Hill?

This world’s earth isn’t that easy to negotiate with.

Trying to use any Earth Burrowing Spell would only trap oneself!

The deeper underground one goes, the stronger the decomposition force of spells gets, and in this world, unless a mage surpasses legendary limits, it’s hard to go as deep as the area Hill was in.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t act so boldly.

The same goes for Draculus, even if he had that ability, he didn’t dare use it.

Suppressing the earth’s erosion and decomposition of magic would likely require magical energy that would alarm the whole world.

And even before Hill, whether something similar had occurred, the earth would have told him... Before Hill, sand had its own language... Apparently, the answer was no.

Of course, Hill could understand Archmage Ruth’s way of lying with eyes open, but he really didn’t want to go along with his performance, so he could only put on a silent demeanor.

”Teacher.” Oliva earnestly spoke on behalf of the junior brothers and sisters who didn’t dare make a sound below, ”We won’t do anything unnecessary.

No matter what, at our stage as mages, we all surely realize that only oneself is the most important.”

He turned to glance at Gilbert, then turned back, ”Even Gilbert would not make arrangements for the Hainarson Family before the information is confirmed.”

Although Oliva was speaking up for him, Hilbert only had one feeling: if Gilbert were sitting here, he’d definitely have veins popping on his forehead.

Really, Oliva’s sincerity could be felt, as he genuinely believed that among the people sitting here, only Gilbert had the closest relationship with his family and was most willing to sacrifice for the family.

Even he was so honest, the others wouldn’t do much more... But, would Gilbert agree with being used as an example by him?

Once again, Hilbert could only reveal a cold smile, ”Mr. Oliva, you better help Archmage Aislin with Lady Nanali’s affairs first!”

This time Ruth was truly helpless... Looking at Oliva’s bewildered gaze, it was clear he didn’t even know how he had once again offended Gilbert.

Enough, it indeed should teach this guy who cannot distinguish significance and urgency... As Ruth pondered Gilbert’s repeated mentions of Nanali, he quickly figured out what mischief that guy intended.

The issue with Nanali herself isn’t major, including her two sons.

But there’s a hidden danger around Nanali.

If Aislin and Oliva don’t catch that hidden danger and let Nanali bring it into the Inner Ring, then... even though nothing major would happen, as Ruth and Karmante Tower are both well aware.

But Oliva and Aislin will inevitably lose face again.

Gilbert will have two more days of amusement.

It indeed fits this guy’s usual style... When he dislikes someone and can’t take action, he lets them embarrass themselves.

Ruth contemplated for a few seconds and decided to temporarily ignore this matter.

They’re going to Sia Tower soon, and Aislin and Oliva still can’t change their old habits; it’s time they got a lesson.

At least if they make mistakes here, he can still help them make amends.

Though he... doesn’t wish for his students to be unable even to preserve their lives.

Ruth sighed and gazed into the distance, a hint of confusion flickering in his eyes.

Hill sharply noticed his momentary distraction: Ruth seemed to be longing for someone.

Before Ruth regained focus, Hill withdrew his gaze and concentrated again on his feet: As long as he confirmed that the Tower of Dark Enigma still holds many secrets.

Anyway, currently, Draculus is in the light, while Hill is in the dark.

As long as he maintains the current situation, Hillbert will always have the chance to see this book filled with secrets... Preferably, Draculus is struggling to turn the pages at the front, while he follows behind to read.

Just thinking about this makes Hill feel joyful, and even these frustrating days that require effort to think calmly become much more comfortable.

He already has confidence... The information that he has had contact with the Styx must have already been transmitted to the ancestor of the World Tree, whose roots are also submerged in the Styx... Now, Hill indeed does not fear exposure.

Even if Asmodeus came personally, he would have to send him away; Teraxil is somehow safe.

But this safety is unstable.

The World Tree would only care about Hill and the Goddess of the Earth, at most taking the Earth Bear along; Teraxil itself, they have no interest in managing.

Asmodeus, of course, understands the typical style of these old powers.

If needed, he will still make a move on Teraxil.

Therefore, Hill absolutely does not want such neighbors living next door.

Hill now even less wants to expose his identity; what if it draws out Asmodeus, who is currently in retreat?

But compared to the crisis threatening life back then, the natural will surrounding him now does not exhibit such startling behavior.

Hill is well aware that this is because he is somewhat relaxed himself.

Yet, even knowing this, he cannot change it.

Therefore... he can only use his brain.

Though it feels like he’s using his brain more than when he was in Toril, Hill is rather excited: If he could endure until the very end to shine before Draculus, he would be happy for 100, no, 500 years!

With this conviction, Hillbert delivered his best performance ever, smoothly enduring this meeting really about nothing serious, nothing more than the three Tower Masters wanting to see which apprentice had issues.

Hill only figured it out after returning to his side tower, finally understanding one thing: Compared to him, suspected of consuming something illicit, Aislin drew more attention.

Yet Aislin herself is completely unaware; she genuinely believes every action she has taken is for Ruth, for her status and power.

Indeed, stupidity sometimes is a sharp knife, blade pointed inward, specifically cutting one’s own people.

”Teacher, you’ve returned. How was it?” Standing in the hall, Russell asked with concern, ”Is there anything you need me to do?”

”You don’t need to worry about these things.” Hillbert shook his head, ”While there’s still time, focus on enhancing your abilities!

Don’t interfere in the matters of the Tower of Dark Enigma.

By the way, these books are given to Felis by Archmage Ruth, the Tower of Dark Enigma’s most original common magic books, perfect for him; you should deliver them later.”

”Understood, Teacher.” Russell responded immediately, then asked anxiously, ”But Ulrich just sent a message, saying some people in the family want a definite answer.”

In the Hainarson Clan, those who dare to do so are the elders who have consistently stood behind Ulrich, supporting him, believing they have the identity and the right to ask questions related to the family’s future.

Hillbert sneered: ”Tell Ulrich, just do what I tell him to do, don’t meddle in other matters.”

Ulrich is a good person, but the biggest issue with good people is precisely this... Nobody fears him.

The biggest issue with the Nobles is that as soon as they pass difficult times, they can’t help but reach out with their little claws.

However, Hill and Gilbert think alike; since they like Ulrich’s humane side, they cannot blame him for the trouble caused by this personality.
