Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Even unwilling to give Kamente Tower a bit of trouble, it’s indeed difficult for Nicholson to accept the reality that he must cooperate with that guy.

Ruth, sitting in a high position, couldn’t help but sigh... but what else could be done?

What is lost is lost; the living are the most important.

As long as Nicholson looks at the remaining people he cares about, he will naturally know what choice to make.

Moreover, it’s not completely impossible to avenge... just endure for a moment.

Kamente Tower itself isn’t that important.

The truly terrifying thing is the person behind him who can free him from Sia Tower’s soul shackles and still complete his positioning function.

The other party clearly doesn’t intend to step out, obviously wanting to hide behind Kamente Tower... Ruth hasn’t guessed the other party’s identity either.

Beside Kamente Tower, there’s only one person who seems to have no problems, yet can’t withstand scrutiny: Rommel.

But, only people like him and Nicholson, who are thoroughly familiar with various affairs of these years, and can see what’s wrong with Rommel’s timing of stepping out to meet people, have such sensitivity.

Change to Aislin, forget it, mentioning her is a bit hurtful.

Even Oliva wouldn’t be able to notice.

Of course, Ruth can determine his thoughts because when he’s activating the main magic array, he feels the excessive fluency of the Mystery of Darkness and... the energy circuits a bit too abundant.

Although the other party doesn’t seem to plan to affect the main magic array, seemingly, the ability is a bit too outstanding, even a small overflow of energy is enough to impress Ruth.

And this, too, only he as the controller can sense.

Ruth isn’t that old yet, and he doesn’t have a suitable successor... Oliva, although decent on the path of a mage, is a bit too indecisive, temperament too gentle and bland.

Being an elder figure is fine, but to wield so many people’s destinies, he surely isn’t competent.

Aislin never even entered his consideration.

Gilbert... he couldn’t possibly pin hope on a disciple with an unpredictable fate, even if he’s suitable in all aspects.

Hence, without early cultivation, the child Gilbert is also a bit astray... those who hold power must weigh pros and cons, cannot be too capricious.

Gilbert is almost synonymous with those four words.

Like today, he clearly could’ve declined this meeting... his laziness actually already implies disrespect towards Aislin.

As for the Hainarson Family matters, as long as he sends a letter, could Ruth possibly have any displeasure?

Gilbert was like this even when he was still an intermediate mage towards his teacher!

But he insisted on coming, insisted on stripping Aislin’s facade in front of so many people.

Completely disregarding the possibility of future cooperation as a disciple that Ruth values.

Aislin, after all, is of the Eighth Ring!

Ruth shook his head helplessly: for the time being, Gilbert also needs to be let go unless he can demonstrate maturity in the following years.

But it’s difficult, after mages surpass the seventh order, their personality basically becomes set... otherwise, they wouldn’t find laws they comprehend and surpass the limits of the Eighth Ring.

All insights into laws are built upon the mage himself.

The knowledge mastered through long spell learning, the wisdom gleaned in different life experiences, all gathered in the mental sea on that foundation, slowly constructing that towering structure, the foundation is crucial, but every layer above must be problem-free.

Seven layers is the threshold, build it and you can proceed; fail to build it, no one can help you, unless you break everything and start anew.

How many can accomplish this? How many dare to risk the total shattering of their mental sea doing this?

Gilbert is still just experiencing mental tremors! It’s already a near-death experience!

And how many are naturally lucky like Gilbert?

So, structures above seven layers can only proceed as originally, absolutely impossible to change form anymore.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t ignore Aislin... that girl’s Eighth Ring is much like building a small pavilion, pretty but useless.

Though it indeed looks like an eighth layer... forget it, at least it can fool those who can’t see inside.

As for the rest, it’s not worth mentioning.

Previously, when Ruth was finding students, surely he sought those more invested in magic learning... he himself was striving upward! Where’s the time to manage a flock fond of trickery and intrigue!

Clever but honest is his preference.

Yet destiny tells him, temporary comfort leads to lifelong unrest.

When he wants students skilled in manipulation, he abruptly discovers even those meeting his requirements fall short of Aislin.

Aislin may be a bit extreme, but she’s not... consider those who love scheming but end up scheming to death like Prutt!

The Tower of Dark Enigma indeed isn’t as miserable as outsiders say, but in terms of student source, it matches the legend quite well.

Tsk, after so many years, the Tower of Despair has benefitted entirely!

Forget it, saying this is useless, I just hope among the students they take in, there are a few who catch his eye.

No choice, after knowing the doomed fate of the Tower of Dark Enigma, Ruth, realizing that struggling was futile, no longer had time to personally teach any student.

The most important thing is, Sia Tower will certainly pay attention to his students; the later they are, the more attention they’ll receive.

After all, Ruth’s status in the Tower of Dark Enigma is undisputable.

And whether his earlier students can be put to good use, even Sia Tower can’t fail to notice... Gilbert’s identity as from the Defense Tower family, after entering Sia Tower, will inevitably become a burden.

As long as Ruth wants to stand firm in Sia Tower, he won’t bring him to the forefront.

Therefore, once there, Ruth will inevitably have to choose two fronts as facades.

But, how could he possibly entrust the future of the Tower of Dark Enigma to students brought in by Sia Tower?

He will teach earnestly, but that’s all he will do.

So, he can only rely on the vision and means of his students for the future of the Magic Tower.

Although, the harsh situation forces them to survive in Sia Tower, Ruth never planned to abandon hope.

Even if he can’t see it, he must continue the legacy of the Tower of Dark Enigma.

Fortunately, his students, ah, except Aislin, are considered responsible towards their students.

Ruth gently opened his eyes, looking around at the students who maintained silence because of his deep thoughts... With so many people, surely he can bring out a few presentable children?

”Teacher.” Oliva broke the silence in the hall, ”Does what Aislin did this time, besides being embarrassing, cause any other trouble?”

”Is embarrassment not enough?” Gilbert suddenly interjected.

In the hall, the disciples who had been looking down at the floor tiles, turned to glance at him.

This little junior brother, is ordinarily not one to meddle in others’ affairs, but when he truly gets started, truly, he spares no one’s dignity.

Aislin’s foot moved, her head also shook violently, but, seemingly even Archmage Karmante was using her stupidity and impulsiveness to mock Ruth, this was a heavy blow to her, and her lowered head did not rise.

Hill couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow: Her reaction really doesn’t seem normal.

Too extreme.

Tsk, if she was in Hell, she might plunge headlong into the Witch’s base camp?

She truly has the demeanor of those old witches.

If Aislin couldn’t even understand the Apprentice Potion, Hill would suspect if she was possessed by an old witch!

”Embarrassment is indeed enough.” Ruth replied calmly, ”The face that Kamente Tower lost this time, Aislin at least helped to compensate half.

After all, he’s afar, and not recognizing his student as a fool is somewhat normal, besides, Prutt, was never his special focus.

But, as Aislin, my other eye, was kept in the dark from beginning to end, and even took this opportunity to test some apprentices... did you really think your little plan would remain unnoticed?”

Secretly glancing up from behind her long bangs, Aislin quickly looked down again.

”To avoid becoming a joke, Karmante Tower will definitely keep frequently contacting me, striving to shift all attention onto Aislin,” Ruth lazily said, ”So if you don’t want to face the outside’s scrutiny, just stay obediently in your Side Tower!

Although I’m not expecting any significant progress from you, still, at least get a bit more familiar with the Spells.

The Standard Runes have been around for so long, have you copied any Eighth Ring Spells?

Aislin.”

Aislin’s bowed head remained motionless... indicating she wasn’t very attentive.

”You are a Mage, remember that!” Ruth said seriously.

While they shared a deep master-disciple bond over there, Hilbert quietly frowned.

Something feels off.

Ruth seems not to want to reveal Karmante Tower’s true identity to Aislin... which isn’t consistent with Gilbert’s usual impression of the duo.

Ruth couldn’t possibly suspect Aislin, then... is it from Karmante Tower’s side, preventing him from telling anyone?

This suspicious attitude aligns with Draculus’s style, but... Hill couldn’t help but refocus on Aislin.

For some reason, this woman always gave him a sense of discord.

Initially, he thought it was due to her, ah, dislikeable demeanor appearing on a mage who should’ve valued ability as real... Hill genuinely disliked it.

But now, he’s somewhat hesitant.

His senses in this world are somewhat dull, so, perhaps, he’s mistaken again?
