Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Aislin couldn’t help but turn her head to glance at Oliva... Her senior brother also looked at her thoughtfully.

Then the two of them simultaneously showed a disgusted expression.

Ruth helplessly shook his head: ”The Hainarson Clan, although there are internal struggles, they have always been relatively fair to the children.

The only thing they can’t help is the talents.

During their childhood, when they haven’t yet developed a foundation of likes and dislikes towards people, they stay together, eat together, learn spells together, struggle together in learning magic... there may still be jealousy, but at most, it’s just cold words, without understanding how to inflict more harm.

Such children, even if they grow up and go their separate ways, it’s difficult to turn their hostility towards companions with whom they’ve endured hard days.

Of course, sufficient benefits can render all this meaningless... but at the very least, they will put those memories on the bottom of the list.”

Oliva raised his head thoughtfully, then shook it again: ”Trust like that can only be built on the basis of blood relations.

Children who become mages are not low in intelligence; if they are strangers, they won’t quickly lower their guard... if there’s hostility from the start...”

He looked up at Aislin: ”Even if they’re treated well later, it won’t be of any use.”

Ruth smiled: ”That’s why the Hainarson Clan is special.”

”Is that the reason why Felis wasn’t successfully manipulated?” Aislin thought of another person, ”I can actually sense his jealousy towards Russell, even more than that, Carpenter, whom he cares more about, his tone is a bit sour when he talks about him.

But when making choices, his first instinct was instead to cooperate with those two children.

He’s not a real Hainarson.”

”As long as the other Hainarsons don’t know he’s not, right? Bloodlines are just a precondition; the friendly and united environment is the reason they get along so well.” Oliva couldn’t help but laugh twice, ”Are you finding excuses for your failure?

Ah, no, that kid’s good nature is actually becoming your reason for shirking responsibility?”

Aislin looked at him slowly: ”The reason I failed, wasn’t it because all three of them could actually be described as good people?

Who would have thought, in the Tower of Dark Enigma, there would still be real good people?”

Oliva was stunned for a second; he suddenly realized that it seemed Aislin wasn’t wrong.

If it were any of the two of them, this disaster couldn’t have been resolved so smoothly... who would really run to the hiding place given by the other!

You’d have to shed a layer of skin before dying, not worth it.

”Actually, I’m even more surprised by Gilbert.” Aislin sat in confusion for a while, then couldn’t help but speak up again, ”The behavior of those two kids is certainly because they know their mentor won’t blame them for it.

Of course, I know he valued the family in the past, but isn’t he now giving up on everyone in the family?

What does he mean?

Is he replacing the grand family love with a smaller circle, with a more defined type of familial recognition?

How did he manage it, and what was he thinking... to still be willing to invest emotion in people he’s never even met?

I still can’t figure it out.”

Although Gilbert is certainly meticulous enough to have such thorough precautions, but... isn’t the premise to be able to think of these things, that Gilbert still harbors those emotions in his heart?

But what kind of transformation is this!

Gilbert even gave up on those with closer blood ties to him.

Aislin just couldn’t understand.

Ruth looked at his female disciple and shook his head: ”Gilbert has always been someone who protects those he cares about.

You’re only thinking about how Ulrich’s side is a taboo, why not consider his care for his own students?”

”Hmm?” Aislin turned her head in surprise, ”Teacher, are you saying that Gilbert did this not because he still loves everyone in the family, but because he’s considering his students’ feelings?

But, if he truly values his students... shouldn’t he teach them what it means to give up?”

Oliva could somewhat understand: ”When I first took in students, I also considered many things.

Although I hope they quickly understand that in the mage world, the most important thing is to learn to give up and not have too deep feelings with mundane family members... otherwise, it would really affect their path as mages, seeing their family age and die.

Moreover, the more attention they pay, the worse it is for their family.

Fortunately, those who can become mages are more rational than emotional, and as long as they see those negative impacts, it’s alright.

Don’t look at me like this, Aislin.

I said, that was at the beginning.

Once you take in more students, you won’t think so much about useless things.

You’ll just give them a reminder, then it’s up to them to solve their own matters.

By the way, you really don’t understand.

You only have a few students, and you’ve ruined them all.”

”Heh~” Aislin rolled her eyes, ”They couldn’t pass my tests and chose betrayal!”

”Aislin.” Ruth gently warned.

”Teacher...”

”I’ve said before, if you don’t change this flaw, don’t accept more students...” Ruth said seriously, ”But that’s not the reason for you to completely give up on teaching students.

And you, Oliva, you didn’t understand what I said at all.”

”Teacher?”

”I really didn’t expect that after such painful torment, Gilbert can still maintain his pure nature!” Ruth shook his head, ”He did this to ensure his apprentices don’t have any regrets due to his choices.”

He used his gaze to suppress Aislin, who tried to interject: ”I control the Tower of Dark Enigma much deeper than you know.

So whatever happens, if I wish to know, I definitely will.

Gilbert didn’t instruct his students beforehand on when to rescue that unlucky person, what’s his name again, ah, Felis.

He just gave them control of all the secret passageways of the Magic Tower, including that secret room where Felis was hiding.

Everything else was done by those two kids on their own.

I suppose Russell was watching you search for their family’s child entering the passage... Aislin, how do you feel now?”

What could Aislin feel?

Just thinking about how her actions were seen through entirely by a 16-year-old gives her an indescribable sense of stifling... not knowing where to vent her frustration!

Ruth seemed not very satisfied with her recent actions, and Aislin really didn’t dare to make any more moves.

”Oh... you see, your intuition isn’t entirely useless.” Oliva seized the chance to add insult to injury, ”It’s just, everything you felt, you brought upon yourself... ah, it does fit your usual style.”

”Gilbert...” Ruth shook his head slightly, ”I thought he changed a lot... surprisingly... it’s a bit beyond my expectations.

Fate...

Is it so interesting?”

-----------------

”Fate, is it so interesting?”

In another tower of the Tower of Dark Enigma, someone else mumbled these words.

However, this time, the one sitting on that high platform was not the Kamante Tower as expected, but another young man with deep brown hair and eyes, wearing a simple black cotton robe.

His appearance wasn’t the kind that leaves a deep impression, but his eyes under the somewhat long hair were extremely sharp when they moved.

”What are you saying?” Sitting beside him, Kamante Tower, dressed in an exquisite embroidered robe, with short hair, and a hook nose particularly prominent on his short face, ”Is it Rolando’s failure over there?”

”No, that was, entirely not a failure.”

Scott Rommel turned his head to smile at him: ”On the contrary, it was very successful.

The Hainarson Clan, just as I thought, is interesting!

By the way, did you find out who gave Prutt’s potion to you?”

”Typhon’s male deputy.”
