Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Although Russell, Carpenter, and Felis each have their own struggles, because everyone has places they can find solace, the three of them are doing alright.

Despite the various amusements inside and outside the Tower of Dark Enigma, Gilbert is indeed a very reliable support.

The less he acts, the more others show their apprehension.

Thus, the Hainarson Clan shows a peculiar harmony amid chaos... Russell’s silence is actually quite effective.

At least, wise individuals like the Chieftain of Hainarson would absolutely not add trouble for Ulrich at this moment.

Without their interference, the other individuals naturally separated based on their stupidity.

Any idiots truly daring to take action against their own clan are still few, at least on the expulsion list Russell received, he didn’t see any familiar faces.

Most of those causing problems are somewhat distant relatives, or even possibly no blood relation at all... In any noble family, a case like Felis’s is definitely not unique.

Although this isn’t really a good thing, at least it made Russell feel a bit better... At least the family cohesion that the Hainarson Clan has been shouting about for years still shows some traces.

His only wish now is that his past self is not a joke.

He doesn’t care about the others and doesn’t want to manage them.

-----------------

Felis, who was notified by Russell, was somewhat distracted.

While it seemed like Russell was interrupting him while he was connecting the Magic Runes to construct his Spell foundation, in reality, it truly showed Russell’s good character for doing so.

Felis clearly knew that only by understanding the external situation... Especially in matters concerning himself, would his Mental Sea not encounter unknown waves during his advancement.

Moving from apprentice to official mage is almost like stepping from the ordinary world into another ecosystem... Hence, the identity he wishes to abandon will also interrogate him deep in his soul.

Of course, such interrogation usually only disturbs those with a conscience and attachments... Love is the greatest interference to mages, and at such times, it is no lie.

People indifferent to everything won’t have such concerns deep in their souls; they’ll only rush towards a bright future.

Felis once thought he was like that, but later realized he probably wasn’t.

Genuinely, those able to abandon everything entirely are the minority.

People like him seem to want nothing, but in reality, they want many things.

Thus, Russell’s timely delivery of news allowed him to gear up lightly... How could Felis possibly not care about his own mother?

Even his elder brothers with different fathers occasionally come to mind: not as fond memories but rather deep sarcasm... The reason Felis has mage aptitude is because he has a father whose mind isn’t good but has normal aptitude.

They continually brainwash themselves into thinking it’s not that they missed chances; it’s just that Felis seized all the luck, therefore they especially despise this foolish brother... Only proving they, like their father, lack both aptitude and intelligence.

But Felis never wished them dead.

Despite those guys not liking Felis and often throwing sarcastic remarks, they also protected him when he had no power.

Humans are always this complex.

Therefore, hearing Russell burst himself to comfort him, Felis could already chuckle and say: ”Think of Rolando.

It’s surprising he’s still alive.”

”Because he’s worthless.” Russell pondered his wording but still sounded a bit harsh, ”His life or death is insignificant; it merely depends on whether others will strike Prutt and incidentally give him a stab.

He doesn’t even hold value as an excuse.

Ironically, he fits well to be taken to Sia Tower and used to display this Potion’s results.

If eventually, the number of ordinary mages dying due to this Potion is too high, he may indeed live until then.”

”Rolando... Is that possible?”

”A fool is blissful.” Russell said lightly, ”The more optimistic and self-satisfied someone is, the slower the Potion affects them.

This thing can make people suspicious, aggressive, and deepen evil thoughts within a person.

But, the prerequisite for everything is that he must think.

Rolando, from the fact he thinks Nanali is someone he can marry and display at home, it’s clear his ability to think is roughly nail-sized.

Oh... right, from his daring attempt to seduce the legitimate wife from the Hainarson Clan... and boldly expose himself, you should understand...”

”Alright... No need to continue the latter part.” Felis helplessly stopped him, ”I understand your point.

Even if he is the first to take the Potion, his reaction might be the slowest.

No wonder Aislin bypassed him and directly targeted Prutt, completely ignoring his issue with Nanali.”

”Huh~” Russell mockingly glanced at him, ”So you don’t need to worry about unnecessary things. If you aren’t careful enough, you might not live as long as those two carefree ones!”

Felis obviously understood Russell was genuinely advising him, but it truly didn’t bring him joy.

In the end, he slowly asked a single question: ”How’s Carpenter doing?”

During his unlucky times, only his fragrant, soft, and adorable sister could provide some comfort.

”She’s in her first round of Spell study; once you advance, you can discuss Shaping Spells’ theoretical knowledge with her.

No matter the lack of progress, Carpenter should learn one or two~”

Felis could never comprehend how some people could deliver good news in such an irksome manner... Clearly, informing him that Carpenter might use Shaping Spells as an external Mental Sea foundation, but insisted on annoying him.

Only then did he belatedly realize Russell’s intent was also advising him not to easily expose his own Spell foundation.

Whoever asked, it’s best to simply say Ice Spells... Some talented mages, without suddenly awakening certain talents like them or gaining certain insights into runes, generally use level 1 Spells, not even needing a weakened version.

Their Mental Seas might not be stable yet, but spiritually, they’ve surpassed average level 1 mages.

Thus, without a wide knowledge base, relying solely on talent, these people could directly suppress others’ years of foundation... Indeed, their Spell foundations might not be comprehensive, but their destructive power is extremely strong.

Hence, talented individuals with good mentors are truly formidable beings.

Like Felis and the others, wouldn’t they want strong destructive power?

Especially with numerous issues behind him, Felis... He simply cannot achieve that, so he chooses to solidify his foundation and place his hopes on the future.

But some people, from now till the future, never need to struggle with choices.

Such as Russell before him.

When Russell pressured Felis, he used everything but himself... Felis clearly understood this wasn’t because he feared Felis knowing his secrets, but because using his own progress might be so outlandish that it would rob Felis of feeling subdued.

Only those slightly superior will evoke a sense of comparison.

Who compares themselves to a cloud in the sky?

That’s just unreasonable.

The more he understood this, the more Felis couldn’t fathom what kind of person Russell was: kindness, couldn’t be said, only not bad.

Keeping rules... obviously not.

Reckless? He really has his own logic in things.

Yet, amongst the mage groups Felis has met, he feels somewhat out of place.

When Russell was with the clan, he didn’t exhibit such peculiar attributes.

Felis gazed at Russell’s departing silhouette, softly asked: ”Mage Gilbert, what kind of person is he?

Do you realize how great the difference is between you and your past?”

Russell stood by the door, turned around smiling: ”Actually, I’m inherently cheerful and lively, but pressure led me to choose a more suitable path.”

Felis vigorously rolled his eyes.

”My teacher, he strongly admires innate qualities in people.” Russell smiled broadly, ”Innate in every aspect.

Hehe~”
