Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Felis watched the sibling interaction before him and felt a sense of helpless sorrow... No matter how much he emphasized the closeness of blood relations, the intimacy between Russell and Carpenter naturally overshadowed it.

The love that supports each other always slowly turns past closeness into memories.

Hence, even when Russell pulled Carpenter’s hand to leave and gave him a provocative look, Felis did not waste the energy to engage with him.

Most of the things that guy said were just for show anyway.

The only important thing is, what he should do now is become an official mage first.

He was already behind those two, and his foundation was vastly different: So, even though Carpenter tried to avoid mentioning the differences between them, she still earnestly told Felis that it’s not that he is lacking, but that Russell and their teacher have remarkable skills and are excellent at teaching.

She was even willing to share with him some of the most basic things that their teacher didn’t mind passing on... And these things, with some mages, could even be regarded as family secrets!

This further proves just how capable Gilbert is. No, it should be said, knowing he can regain his health and having a life goal once again, Gilbert, when he calms down, truly shows how outstanding he is.

No wonder Ruth cherishes this student like a treasure.

Felis sighed gently.

Even though this girl clearly knows that saying such words might easily incite jealousy in Felis... Carpenter couldn’t possibly have forgotten his past little schemes... but she was still willing to take that risk to cheer Felis up.

Fortunately, after going through so many things, Felis has already discarded those meaningless little thoughts... Later, Russell also spoke so much because he was satisfied with his performance.

Of course, Felis appreciated Russell’s generosity... But the kind of response that only came after he first made the correct move made Felis realize clearly that the relationship between them was purely businesslike, the interaction of adults going back and forth.

What truly deserves his cherishing will always be Carpenter’s most sincere care for her brother.

Though now, Carpenter clearly loves her Brother Russell more.

But what qualification does Felis have to compete with Russell over this now?

In those past years, and in the years to come, when Carpenter was most miserable, it was Russell who was by her side. In her happiest moments, Russell also accompanied her.

He only brought her sorrow and torment.

Even if Carpenter doesn’t mind, Felis himself understands he has lost the qualifications to confidently assume the role of elder brother.

But Russell can’t stay proud for long either.

Elder brothers are always the protective shields when sisters are young... Once they spread their wings, they must fly into the embrace of another.

Ha~ Felis still understands his sister well; she has always oscillated between romance and reason, even if she chooses reason in the face of a harsh environment in the short term, she will still have moments when she can’t control her impulses.

She might even have already made some foolish mistakes.

Actually, upon vaguely understanding the real emotions contained in those brief words between Russell and Carpenter, Felis couldn’t help but shake his head a bit... Anyway, Mage Gilbert is unlikely to accept Carpenter as a legitimate student.

However, given Carpenter’s aptitude, she wouldn’t have the qualification anyway?

Over the years, having seen countless students with mage aptitude, yet only recognizing Russell, how could he acknowledge her?

Felis felt a bit confused, but he could see from his sister’s behavior that at least Gilbert genuinely cares for his students... even crossing the basic aptitude requirements generally held by mages in certain ways.

Felis could see Carpenter’s regret, so he actually wasn’t without regret either.

But what could he say?

And nature is hard to change; what he learned from a young age was only blame... Felis could only attribute this regret to Carpenter’s uncontrollable impulses.

Even if this impulse was for him.

Felis shook his head in regret, his gaze fixating on the paper before his chin... then he froze completely.

Russell, that guy!

The position of this paper is calculated perfectly!

It neither blocks his view nor allows him to see it comfortably!

Really... what else could that mind of his be good for, except scheming these things!

Felis truly felt his mental sea was about to boil... When did Russell become like this?

-----------------

Hill tilted his head slightly, pondering similar questions.

Russell, the time he spent with him, wasn’t particularly long, right?

Yet, why does he always give him an overly familiar feeling... Hill couldn’t even open his mouth to push it aside elsewhere.

Therefore, now he either has to admit that such a pure natural character is inherently attractive to him.

Or... he must accept the more frightening reality that whoever spends enough time with him will blend into nature, pursuing natural tendencies.

Hill quietly reclined into his chair, pondering silently for a few seconds, suddenly gave himself a perfect answer... This world, isn’t it for those with weak will, left only with straightforward consciousness!

Hence, the child of the world he prefers must be the kind most harmonious with natural consciousness: The initial presence of world will always starts with various natural phenomena.

So, it’s understandable why he has a fondness for Russell and finds Gilbert’s story particularly intriguing.

Though this answer might not explain everything... at least it’s enough to comfort himself for now.

Hill quietly opened his book again and changed a Sixth Circle Spell once more.

He now understood why the Red Dragon was squatting in this world without leaving, and those at Sia Tower preferred internal conflict rather than going after him.

Indeed, Fengo and Glaysia hadn’t lost their sanity due to Asmodeus’s temporary retreat.

Initially, Hill didn’t quite believe Glaysia would simply call Fengo back, or that Fengo would obediently return to the Princess of Hell to listen to teachings without any resistance.

Even if he did intend to obey, he would show some unwillingness... to demonstrate in front of Asmodeus that, apart from the Great Lord of Hell, he listens to no one else’s words out of loyalty.

Though Asmodeus knows how much of his superficial performance is false, in the world of devils, as long as one follows this rule, it’s fine.

No one cares what you truly think in your heart.

But Hill, after hearing feedback from several Tower Masters, couldn’t confirm whether the situation back then was as they described... It’s likely Fengo did resist, just not letting outsiders see it.

After all, Asmodeus still cares about Glaysia’s prestige in this world, hence, Fengo might show different responses internally and externally.

Yet currently, Glaysia and Fengo are still in conflict, which is very unusual.

They would either directly kill each other or completely ignore each other; there is no way they’d let other devils see them as a joke.

Leaving Fengo aside, Glaysia has truly been punished by her own father for such things.

In situations deemed unnecessary... Such as when handsome men and beautiful women desired by Glaysia were skinned and boned by Fengo affecting her good life... The Princess of Hell tends to obediently listen to her father, who deals harshly.

Fortunately, Hill is sensitive to the external environment, and he quickly understood the real reason.

That Dragon must have opened some channels to Styx elsewhere.

And Glaysia and Typhon, though they might not know the Red Dragon’s true identity, they surely know he comes from Styx.

For Hell, the aura of Styx is never a bad thing, on the contrary, they really need it.

Styx is originally the source of life for Hell.

And the Lord of Hell is skilled at snatching things from Styx... These Great Devils also understand it’s normal for the Will of Styx to opt for a final struggle, but if it fails, it won’t do anything to Hell.

Styx is merely unwilling to lose, but even if lost, it won’t go mad.

Having deified and started absorbing Primordial Power, Asmodeus must have given them a hint: It’s time to expedite complete control over this world.

Originally, this world was already nearing its limit, and the devils naturally felt the collapse of world will... The meddling Styx, instead, helps the Lord of Hell a bit in this regard: Once the world completely Styx-ifies, the world will inevitably vanish, and then take a long time to find a new self.
