Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 169: Chapter 21 The Cause of the Beast Tide

Players curiously looked around the otherworldly laboratory, glancing left and right, pointing and discussing.

Snow Cloud Peak began to take out various spoils of war from the Abyss from his bag.

Adrian started directing him to sort them by the intensity of the demonic aura and place them in different isolation chambers.

Hill was just silently observing when he suddenly called a halt to Snow Cloud Peak, ”Wait a minute, the writing on this stele is Divine Script.” He pointed at a few steles and said, ”It’s best to keep these separate.”

Once the steles were all set up, Hill asked Snow Cloud Peak to put aside everything he was holding and after a meticulous check confirmed there were seventy to eighty items with a mix of demonic and deific auras.

He then asked Snow Cloud Peak to place these in the same isolation chamber as the steles.

Perfect Bald, who had been standing by and watching, spoke up and asked, ”Are these steles very important?

In our appraisal, it just said that these strange characters can only be understood by those with a sacred aura.

But even our priests couldn’t understand them, so I thought maybe it was because their level was too low.

Could it be that only those favored by the deities can comprehend them?

Mr. Hill, let me copy them down for you, I’ll get every word right.”

Just as Hill was about to answer, Fran spoke up, ”That would be best. Hill is a Nature System Magician and should not stay in a place filled with demonic aura.” He turned to Hill and instructed, ”Don’t stay any longer here. The goods from the Undead Tribe have been delivered; you should return to the Magic Tower first.

If there’s anything, I will have List inform you.”

In the time it took to exchange a few words, several Undead Mages had already made rubbings of the text, and Hill took the stack of papers Perfect Bald handed to him, reluctantly preparing to leave.

After hearing Fran say that Hill was unsuitable for dealing with demonic things, Perfect Bald even carefully picked out the rubbings of the demon text and removed them.

List suddenly appeared, excitedly saying, ”Sir, I’ve already set up the Tower Spirit for the Lord’s Mansion! You’re going to love it!”

Hill, filled with a sense of foreboding, looked at the Tower Spirit girl List proudly introduced, overwhelmed with embarrassment and endless regret.

Hearing Adrian compliment List on his fine taste and watching the players crowd around the Tower Spirit, Hill couldn’t find a place to rest his feet. He wanted to run.

Although no one knew who the long-legged enchanting girl was, sexy yet innocently cute.

But Hill knew. It was a testament to his adolescent vanity, evidence that he had once played as a female character.

It was also the visage of the Goddess of his dreams at sixteen, meticulously crafted by his years of experience in sketching, during his foolish youthful days.

Hill regretted letting List make the setup.

He thought List would pick someone from the female celebrities in his memories and modify her a bit, but he forgot Adrian’s words about using the image of the Undead Tribe.

Although the Tower Spirit was flexible, it was rigid in some ways.

Thinking Hill had no objections to Adrian’s proposal, List searched for an image in the two-dimensional world.

Indeed, it was an image Hill had once adored, but as time passed and feelings changed, liking it back then didn’t mean he would be filled with joy upon seeing it now.

Hill desperately didn’t want to hear the players’ varied praises of his former Goddess, awkwardly nodding to the young girl.

Looking at the Tower Spirit’s eager expectation for her name, Hill blinked, ”Marsha! Your name is Marsha.”

He then quickly said goodbye to Fran and Adrian and waved at the players before hurrying away.

Hill, trying hard to smile, nodded to the players outside listening to Old Cat boast, then flew off without looking back, heading straight for the bedroom at the top of the Magic Tower. He felt even the study couldn’t hide his immense embarrassment.

Hill’s only consolation was that his self-styled image, which had been beautified quite a bit, was so unlike the original that William would definitely not recognize it.

He touched his cheeks that were only starting to blush now that he was back in his bedroom and lay down helplessly.

Even a public execution unknown to others was a bit much for someone as thin-skinned as Hill.

List appeared quietly, ”Sir, did I do something wrong?”

Hill waved his hand, ”It’s not your fault, I’m the one who overlooked it, I have only myself to blame. You did nothing wrong.”

List scrutinized Hill’s expression and, satisfied that he was just a bit embarrassed, quietly left.

Hill sat up, took out those papers, and slowly began studying. Even though his ancestral heritage included the method to read Divine Script, it was not something he used regularly and still required familiarization.

Hill glanced over them and frowned, summoning List, ”Have my maternal grandfather hide those Divine Script Steles from the mages.

Store away those items, and once I’ve translated them, have my maternal grandfather deliver them directly to His Majesty the King. They have to do with the deities, and we can’t shoulder the responsibility.”

List obeyed and left. Hill pinched the tips of his ears, feeling a headache coming on.

But it seemed like he was finally going to learn the true cause of the beast tide.

Hill earnestly rose to his feet, sat down in his study, and began translating word by word, writing out the sorrowful tale.

Thousands of years ago, the Goddess of the Spring had a sister, the Lake Goddess.

They nearly appeared at the same time.
