Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 160: Chapter 17 Abyssal War_2

Everyone, push hard! Let’s take out this boss before we get wiped!

Also, the notification has popped up on the tablet!

Don’t wander around aimlessly; a gust of wind might send you plummeting to the bottom of the Abyss!

Although we can’t enter, most likely we’d be sent back halfway. But if anyone likes coming in here just to die like that, I have no objections!

Those who are prepared to die, take point and block for a while, so the rest can rearrange the formation!

Good, just like that! Brothers! Show some gratitude to the brave Scattered Ones!

And to all the ladies!”

Hill could feel the overwhelming desire to survive emanating from this Old Dog from Snow Cloud Peak.

When the camera returned to the players’ side, their ranks had been reorganized.

It was still an interlocking circular defensive formation.

But a ring of Priests was mixed in with the Knights.

The Mage ring was surrounded by the Swordsmen ring.

It’s presumed that the players who died on the Black and White Path were too brave; there were gaps in the Demons’ attacks.

The fortress commander above also seemed to be regrouping his troops, planning to come down and attack together.

”Don’t stop the Mages’ Blizzard. Cast it from overhead outward!

Try to minimize the gaps!

Damn it, when I said minimize the gaps, I didn’t mean for you to drop it on my head!

Why is it so hot?

And it stinks too! I thought the Abyss was supposed to smell like sulfur? Why does it smell so foul?”

A voice nearby said, ”You’re not still using the highest sensory system settings, are you? I switched to the lowest long ago!”

”In order to be more sensitive, I haven’t changed my sensory system settings in a long time! I’d completely forgotten about it, I’ll change it right now.”

The screen showed many people stealthily taking out their tablets and quietly switching their sensory systems.

Adrian asked, ”Their sensory system is much lower than ours by default, isn’t it?”

”Yes. Their highest is roughly equivalent to 60% of ours,” Hill replied, ”The lowest can go down to about 20%, I think? Not very clear on that.”

”In that case, the Abyss must indeed be very hot and smelly,” Adrian remarked somewhat puzzled, ”So, is that why Demons like invading other worlds?”

Even Adrian doesn’t fully understand Demons? Hill began to understand why Natural Consciousness so strongly supported the God of Time and Space in summoning players.

”Such a big storm!” exclaimed the Undead outside.

The Abyss seemed to be expressing its strong unwelcome to the invading players. The camera even visibly shook fiercely.

What appeared on screen was a Tornado Storm attacking the players, a massive whirlwind carrying huge sparks, almost set to wipe them out in one fell swoop.

”Knights, link arms, shields up! The front row of Knights, don’t stand too straightly; do you plan to let the wind through?

Hurry and switch!

Mages, stand firm, Swordsman hold onto the Mages! Don’t stop the Blizzard!

Priests! Crouch behind the Knights and hold on! Get the Holy Rain going!”

A Priest shouted, ”The Abyss, cooldown times have increased!”

”By how much? Stop babbling! Tell me the multiplier! How long?” Snow Old Dog cursed impatiently.

”5 times! 30 seconds now!”

”Then the Priests don’t need to worry about anything else, just cast Holy Rain when the cooldown is done! Everyone else is at the mercy of fate! Or rely on quick hands and sharp eyes! Catch some rain yourself! But don’t leave the spot you’re supposed to be on!”

Fran took out paper and pen, beginning to meticulously document his first impression of the Abyss.

Hill and Adrian exchanged glances. Both of them were quite insensible to their surroundings.

”If you have no insight, don’t worry about it,” Fran said, continuing to write, ”Only those who have a feeling for the world’s rules can sense the chaos of the Abyss.” He looked up at the screen, ”It’s the Undead, they completely ignore the rules, not affected when they enter.”

Fran furrowed his brows, ”Don’t venture into the Abyss unless you’re Legendary.

Even for Legendaries, don’t stay too long.

No wonder Natural Consciousness saved that one who lasted so long.

Such a strong will!”

”Is Grandfather much affected?” Hill asked with concern, ”Should we stop watching?”

”It’s fine,” Fran shook his head, ”We’re not down to the ground yet, this level of influence is negligible.”

After some thought, Hill still cast Purification towards Fran.

”That does feel a bit better,” Fran acknowledged after a moment’s sensation.

”Then I will cast a Purification now and then,” Hill said with satisfaction.

Fran nodded, ”Better safe than sorry.”

After the players withstood the Abyss’s intimidation, the Demon Army from above began their attack.

Luckily, the fierce Demons, having their strength reduced by the Holy Rain-laden Blizzard, only retained half their power.

”In the future, this move will likely become standard for all Temples,” Adrian said, ”I’ll spread the news later, have people make more Blizzard scrolls.”

Hill looked up at Adrian.

Adrian chuckled, ”It’s also an opportunity for the Low-rank Mages.

There are too many Undead, and their hiring costs are lower than those for official Mages.

There will always be Mages who don’t want to serve the Royal Family, and they’ll be without income.

Hill, you haven’t suffered in life, so you don’t understand when there are too few outlets for those with power, the chaos it can create.”

Hill actually understood, but he felt William would understand better. After all, he himself was only a bystander reading social news, but William truly knew the ropes.

He didn’t plan to say anything, just nodded his head.

Adrian truly was a good man.

Fran had already delegated all external matters to Adrian and had no intention of involving himself at this time.
