Algorithm system

Press ConferenceA week later, Xia Ye received her first personal training income: 3,600 yuan.

While Lin Yuan was deep in thought, staring at his laptop screen, a voice suddenly echoed in the air, ”WeChat received 1,800 yuan.”

Lin Yuan was stunned for a long time, as he had never experienced such a thing before.

Only after picking up his phone and checking it did he remember the joke he had made with Xia Ye—that she would give him half of whatever she earned.

He never expected that girl to actually remember it.

To call her stupid, she wasn’t stupid at all at that moment.

Soon, Xia Ye’s call came in.

”I’ll support you from now on.”

”Thank you, rich lady, for the reward.”

”I’m so happy, ahhh, it’s the first time I’ve felt earning money is so easy.”

In fact, as long as you find the right path, earning money can indeed be very easy.

”What are you eating again?” Lin Yuan heard chewing sounds from the other end of the phone.

”I bought a Supreme Ice Cream Egg Waffle, it’s so delicious! Do you want me to bring you one? But it might melt on the way back. Is there anything you want to eat? I’ll buy it for you.”

Lin Yuan casually said, ”I want to eat you.”

”You pervert. You’re taking advantage of me again.”

The two chatted idly for a while longer, until Xia Ye noticed Lin Yuan’s intermittent replies. ”Are you delivering Good Group Waimai again?”

”Uh... yeah.” Actually, Lin Yuan was busy writing code.

”Come back after delivering for a bit. I’ll wait for you to have dinner together. You don’t have to work so hard anymore, because I’m earning money.”

”Okay, okay, be good. Come back early, I’m busy now.”

After hanging up the phone, Lin Yuan had a feeling, as if a child was showing off to an adult that she had earned money by herself.

”Sigh~” Lin Yuan could only shake his head.

He was currently busy in the school dormitory fine-tuning the parameters of the Good Group Waimai algorithm. Hao Tuan Company was eager to hold a press conference, so they were very anxious to roll out the algorithm across the entire Zijin City. This generated a large amount of operation and maintenance work.

Although Lin Yuan often went to the rented room to see Xia Ye, and Xia Ye also wanted to live with Lin Yuan (provided they behaved themselves), Lin Yuan still used the excuse of being closer to deliver Good Group Waimai and returned to the school dormitory to live, so as not to expose his identity by writing code in front of Xia Ye.

So, Xia Ye was actually living alone every night. Lin Yuan had never slept there for a single night.

This was not because Lin Yuan was a gentleman, but because he didn’t want to scare that simpleton with a momentary impulse. That simpleton often had brain farts; one second she would cross her arms and declare her traditional ways, and the next, after seeing a cute video of a human baby, she would pull Lin Yuan into a discussion about what their future children would look like.

Lin Yuan couldn’t switch as freely as she could, so out of sight, out of mind was best.

As time entered November 2024, this world still seemed to be operating on its original trajectory. The Eagle Country’s president, on The Other Shore, was, as expected, that old man who knew everything.

Meanwhile, on this side of the Pacific, Lin Yuan, this little butterfly, flapped his wings, and the result of this small flutter was that Good Group held a press conference.

In this day and age, every company wants to play with traffic, and to touch traffic, they need to create momentum. So, selling mobile phones requires a press conference, and selling cars also requires a press conference. In short, no matter whether you have followers or not, you have to set up a stage and say a few words.

But a Good Group Waimai platform holding a press conference was indeed a first.

Hao Tuan Company started pre-heating on its own APP a week in advance—”Participate in the Good Group Waimai online press conference and receive a no-threshold Good Group Waimai divine coupon.”

Because the public had long experienced multiple waves of internet trends, they were originally not interested in such promotions. But Good Group was serious this time. As long as users clicked on Good Group’s promotional link and entered, they would receive a five-yuan no-threshold coupon.

Being so straightforward and generous from the start, everyone became somewhat interested in the legendary online press conference divine coupon.

According to Good Group’s publicity, the Good Tuan Internal Research Institute invested huge human and material resources, rectified and optimized various internal enterprise procedures, and collectively reduced costs and increased efficiency by 5 percentage points in the Good Group Waimai delivery process. These 5 percentage points would be used as benefits for delivery riderss, to improve their salaries and treatment.

Although it was only five percentage points, for the Good Group Waimai industry, a field that has been almost completely squeezed dry, it was already a very good improvement.

In the preview released by Good Group, there were also many Good Group delivery riderss sharing their experiences. The delivery riderss unanimously agreed that Good Group Waimai had been much easier to deliver recently, and their income had also increased somewhat.

Due to confidentiality agreements, Lin Yuan’s name was not publicly mentioned.

However, he was happy to see it happen. For a cheater, it’s good to lie low. He didn’t want to stand in front of the stage, at least not now.

Good Group even paid him an additional sixty thousand yuan. The reason given was: for the company’s business needs, it was inconvenient for him to appear on camera. As a consolation, his salary for the previous three months was also issued at an annual salary of 500,000 yuan. So, the money he was short for the previous three months was made up to him.

But Lin Yuan, through hearsay, had some things slip into his ears. It seemed the real situation was: the Good Tuan Internal Research Institute had been busy for a month and still couldn’t figure out how to replicate the Good Group Waimai algorithm he provided.

Therefore, Lin Yuan felt that this sixty thousand yuan was most likely Good Group’s way of appeasing him, and not a kind compensation at all.

If that’s the rhythm, as Good Group slowly discovers they can’t handle the algorithm, won’t his treatment continue to rise? It’s good to think about it; let nature take its course.

With the successful holding of the Good Group press conference, a large wave of coupons was distributed through the live broadcast room. Of course, these coupons were only used to attract popularity. What Good Group wanted everyone to see was the improvement in the delivery riderss’ treatment.

Although netizens initially made various sarcastic remarks about Good Group, after Zijin City netizens, with their ”my friend, my relative, myself” various personal accounts, spoke up, Good Group Waimai really became easier to deliver than before.

At least, there were no more annoying station masters.

This was because Good Group, through the algorithm, significantly weakened the functions of station masters, replacing them with Good Group Waimai delivery riderss who concurrently served as station masters. So, the delivery riderss’ first feeling was—the people directly managing them were gone, what a joy!

And Lin Yuan also introduced a customer rating mechanism into the algorithm. The algorithm would warn the delivery riders in advance if a certain customer might be difficult, and would give the delivery riders a certain spiritual comfort prize. This greatly reduced the conflicts between delivery riderss and customers.

Although the delivery riderss’ actual treatment only increased slightly, delivering Good Group Waimai became much more pleasant. Work, after all, is never just about treatment; mood also needs to be considered.

And this was also the cunning part of Good Group.

Although Lin Yuan was not clear about the revenue increase brought by the iteration of the Good Group Waimai algorithm, because he did not have the authority to view financial data, he would be damned if he believed that the algorithm only brought a 5 percentage point improvement.

’Isn’t that an insult to the system?’

After cutting out the station masters, it not only saved the expense of supporting them but also optimized the entire delivery management chain. Relevant personnel in the third-party companies behind the station masters would be optimized, and even some positions within Good Group related to station master management would no longer be needed.

Moreover, after optimizing delivery, both delivery costs and customer complaint costs would decrease.

In Lin Yuan’s view, Good Group was clearly aiming for both reputation and unwilling to let go of the reduced management costs brought by the algorithm.

Therefore, quite naturally, the entire focus of the promotion revolved around optimizing the working environment for delivery riderss.

Lin Yuan even felt that making delivery riderss feel more comfortable delivering meals might just be treated as a byproduct by Good Group, and fortunately, this byproduct cannot be monetized by capital.

But no matter what, Lin Yuan was still quite happy.

Because at least he had truly done something helpful for these Good Group Waimai delivery riderss in Zijin City.

As for Good Group heavily praising itself, Lin Yuan was no longer surprised. Good Group indeed urgently needed a low-cost solution to improve its social image.

Lin Yuan was very curious what kind of treatment Good Group would give him when they discovered that their own research institute couldn’t handle the algorithm.
