Algorithm system

My mentor is a bit fierceHow did you manage to hook the other side?

Of course, from the overt chat records and email exchanges, no clues could be seen.

At most, Lin Yuan and the other party talked a lot about the hardships of the delivery rider group, and he showed just a tiny bit of potential to become a future public intellectual and troublemaker. But this was clearly not enough to make the other party take the bait.

“Just with this, the other party allocated you two H100s? Those two combined are equipment starting at four to five hundred thousand. Our school can only apply for the allocation of such equipment after a clear project has been approved.”

“Uh...” Lin Yuan hesitated slightly, “Professor, actually, it’s like this. I posted something on my Moments.”

“What Moments?” Professor Zhang actually went to get his phone, intending to look at Lin Yuan’s Moments.

“Don’t look for your phone, you won’t be able to see it on yours. I blocked everyone in my life and specifically customized a Moments post for their application specialist.”

Professor Zhang took Lin Yuan’s phone, “National Defense Student?”

Then he turned his head to look at Lin Yuan, making Lin Yuan feel a little flustered.

“Professor, did I cross the line with this?”

“Cross what line? You’re a natural at this.”

Seeing that his mentor didn’t take it seriously, Lin Yuan felt a lot more at ease, “If this comes to light in the future, will I be called in for questioning?”

“Ai,” Professor Zhang said dismissively, “Back then, when we went to conferences held by them and freeloaded on their tea breaks, we had to shout a few appropriate slogans, right? What you did is nothing.”

What Lin Yuan did was indeed nothing, because he merely lifted his clothes corner and subtly provoked the other party; he didn’t explicitly say anything.

Professor Zhang continued, “Back then, in their consulate, after the doors were closed, what kind of things didn’t we say? If you don’t pretend to align with their values, how would they be willing to share academic achievements with you?

Don’t be afraid, this is nothing.

We were even recorded back then.”

“Huh?” Lin Yuan exclaimed, “This is allowed?”

“Nonsense. Foreigners are shrewd. Some people are inherently weak-willed, and if they’re intimidated with a recording, they’ll just kneel.” Professor Zhang patted Lin Yuan on the shoulder twice, “I’ve told you, a straight body fears no crooked shadow. You have to trust the organization.”

Lin Yuan said faintly, “I haven’t joined the organization yet...”

“Oh?” Professor Zhang pondered for a moment, “I’ll talk to Li Youcai later; I’ll be your introducer.”

‘Huh?’ Lin Yuan was thrilled, ‘Am I going to walk on both political and business legs now? Hold both hands firmly, and make both hands strong?’

Lin Yuan timely added, “I am always ready.”

This made Professor Zhang laugh, “It’s rare for you to know how to climb the pole.”

“Oh, if you had told me earlier, I could have given you some materials to send to them. You might have gotten ten H100s.”

Lin Yuan was stunned, “Professor, are you that fierce?”

“What, fierce?”

“It means a bit reckless.”

“Eh, I also have my limits. I wouldn’t actually take out classified information. Just take out some scraps, that’s enough. For example, papers related to temporary battlefield networking and communication research from decades ago. I guarantee you’ll hook them every time.”

“Will this really not get me in trouble?”

“It will. I was in GuoAn’s black room for a long time arguing with an old expert, and I convinced him to believe that I intentionally provided materials that brushed against classified information but were not actually classified.”

“Brushing against classified information but not actually classified?” Lin Yuan muttered, repeating it. That sounded so convoluted.

“I replaced the core algorithms in the classified projects I participated in. Non-experts simply wouldn’t understand. And they couldn’t immediately set up a test environment to verify the code I provided. Let me tell you, when it comes to technology, if professionals fake it, it can be even more real than the real thing.”

Lin Yuan pondered for a moment. That was true; his previous boast to his mentor about “letting algorithms produce algorithms” was essentially this type of fakery. Anyway, if you follow the steps I give you, you can get the correct result, but you can’t apply my system elsewhere. It’s primarily about giving a fish, not teaching how to fish.

“But... Professor, this is still very dangerous. One careless mistake and you could easily be treated as a traitor and shot.”

“That’s why, I don’t know how long I discussed with that white-haired expert back then. Alas, you couldn’t see the time in the black room. Anyway, that old man was later helped out.”

“What happened next?” Lin Yuan asked curiously.

“Then I came out completely unharmed.”

“And then...” Lin Yuan always felt that after coming out of the black room, things wouldn’t just end there.

“What happened next is not something you can hear about now.”

“I understand.” Lin Yuan wisely shut his mouth.

“You have to trust me, your professor. If you really get in there, the old man who comes to interrogate you might just be me.”

“Ah? Shouldn’t teachers and students avoid suspicion?”

“Hiss~~, you’re right. But, technology is something that cannot be faked. It either is or it isn’t. The bond between teacher and student cannot change objective facts; everyone understands this.

Let me think, what materials would be good to give you.”

“No!” Lin Yuan almost exclaimed, “Please, absolutely not! Two H100s are already enough for me, I won’t trouble you, Professor.”

Lin Yuan didn’t want to test the power of the iron fist; it was better to be safe. He had just been in once for forging an admission letter, and he didn’t want to go in again. Moreover, if he went in again this time, he might end up with a black hood over his head.

“Are you sure you don’t need it?”

“Absolutely not, the computing power is already sufficient. Once my initial algorithm draft is out and submitted to the company for review and evaluation, I’ll be able to get subsequent resource investment, and I won’t need to resort to these irregular methods. At that time, I’ll completely cut ties with this OCR organization, as if nothing ever happened.”

“Cut ties?” Professor Zhang pondered for a while, saying nothing more.

Lin Yuan had a bad premonition, ‘Could it be that I’m going to be sent to be Yu Zecheng? I don’t want that. I’m not cut out for undercover work.’ But since his mentor hadn’t brought it up yet, Lin Yuan didn’t want to refuse first, lest he appear small-minded.

Lin Yuan never dreamed that his mentor was so fierce when he was young. No, even at nearly sixty, he still seemed very fierce. Who knew how many times he had tested the edge of danger?

Even if it wouldn’t arouse suspicion from his comrades, what if he angered the enemy and was targeted? Lin Yuan hadn’t had time to fully enjoy the happy life brought by the system, and he didn’t want to risk sacrificing so soon...

“Alright, I understand. You’ve done very well, brave and resourceful. I, your professor, look forward to your algorithm being released. You go get busy now.”

Lin Yuan exited as instructed.

A while after Lin Yuan left, Professor Zhang made a phone call.

“212 calling 213, urgent matter to discuss, come to my office quickly.”

The person on the other end of the phone was clearly stunned for a while, “Old Ghost Zhang, are you senile? We haven’t done this for years.”

“Just tell me, do you, the vice dean, want to be officially appointed or not?”
