Chapter 81: Chapter 81 She Took the Initiative to Pursue Me (Dear Fans, Please Follow)

Zhang Jingdong waved over a waiter, then passed the menu to Chen Lu: ”Order whatever you like!”

Chen Lu took the menu, glanced at it, and found that even the cheapest dish was over five hundred.

She sighed with relief inwardly and downplayed her reaction: ”Let’s have a boiled cabbage in clear broth, and a honey taro.”

Then she handed the menu back to Zhang Jingdong: ”I’m not very hungry. You order.”

Zhang Jingdong knew the reason from her look, took the menu, and continued ordering: ”Let’s have a Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, steamed Yangtze River knife fish, boiled East Mountain goat meat, and charcoal-grilled abalone, that will do for now!”

When the waiter had left, Chen Lu couldn’t help saying: ”I don’t quite understand, the dishes here seem similar to what’s offered at other restaurants, but why are they dozens of times more expensive?”

Zhang Jingdong laughed and replied: ”There are many reasons, but I think the most important might be the famous ingredients they use.”

”Take this Yangtze River knife fish for example. Truth be told, it might not taste much better than other fish, but it’s known to be very rare, and people have accepted that it’s expensive, hence its high price!”

”In other words, many extremely expensive items are actually famous for their reputation!”

”Like the world-famous painting ’The Mona Lisa’s Smile’. Quality-wise, it’s not even considered average among da Vinci’s works, but it has become his most famous one, even more so than da Vinci himself.”

”Why this painting became priceless is because the Louvre theft shocked the world, and the lost painting was none other than ’The Mona Lisa’s Smile’, so it unwittingly gained worldwide fame and became invaluable!”

”Another example is diamonds; essentially, they’re just rocks and there’s a plethora of them, but because of the famous saying ’Diamonds are forever,’ they became a household name, and thus their prices soared.”

”In short, when the price of something far exceeds its actual value, it definitely has some unique added value in other aspects.”

Chen Lu nodded thoughtfully: ”Seems to make sense.”

Before long, the waiter came and served everything, and the two continued to eat and chat.

Zhang Jingdong suddenly asked: ”By the way, where are you from?”

Chen Lu put down her chopsticks: ”I’m from Jiangdu.”

”Is that so?” Zhang Jingdong sounded uncertain: ”But your accent doesn’t seem to match!”

”I moved to Jiangdu with my parents when I was ten. Before that, I lived with my grandfather, a Shaoxing native.”

Zhang Jingdong suddenly realized: ”I thought so. You have a hint of the gentle Wu dialect in your accent.”

A little while later, Zhang Jingdong curiously asked: ”Actually, I’ve been wondering, you’re so pretty, why have you never had a boyfriend?”

Surprised by his question, Chen Lu replied, ”How do you know I’ve never had a boyfriend?”

Zhang Jingdong grinned mischievously: ”Back at the villa, even though you tried to fake being experienced, I could still tell it was your first kiss!”

Chen Lu shot Zhang Jingdong a shy and annoyed glance: ”Alright, I admit it.”

”I was always focused on studying in school, and even though there were suitors, I rejected them all.”

”And then in the three years since university graduation, I’ve been too busy with work to find the time to look.”

”Which university did you attend?”

”East River Normal University.”

Curious, Zhang Jingdong continued: ”East River Normal University is a top tier university. So why did you end up doing sales after graduating?”

Chen Lu pursed her lips: ”Right after graduating, I had two choices: become a high school teacher or pursue postgraduate studies to then become a university professor.”

”But both jobs only paid a few thousand yuan, and I had a high school classmate who had only done a vocational course and then went into sales, making tens of thousands a month.”

”At that time, my family needed money, so after some consideration, I simply chose my current job.”

Zhang Jingdong nodded and then said: ”So you are 25 this year?”

Chen Lu was slightly taken aback, then her eyes dimmed: ”...You... do you mind that I’m older than you?”

Zhang Jingdong teased her: ”Had you not been older, I wouldn’t be pursuing you. I’ve always liked older women. As the saying goes, an older girl by three years carries a golden brick for a dowry!”

Chen Lu’s smile returned, and she placed a piece of goat meat onto Zhang Jingdong’s plate: ”You have a way with words.”

Half an hour later, the two finished their meal and left Tianfu First-class.

After boarding the elevator and pressing for the first floor, three men and three women suddenly entered.

Two of the men lit up upon seeing Chen Lu.

Yet in another man’s eyes, a flicker of jealousy passed.

He is Li Ze, a former client of Chen Lu.

He was jealous because he had once pursued Chen Lu but was rejected, and now Chen Lu had changed from her previous aloofness and was sweetly holding Zhang Jingdong’s arm.

Secondly, one of the reasons Chen Lu had rejected him was that he was too young, but the guy in front of him was even younger!

This was just a bit unreasonable!

So he stepped forward and said with a meaningful tone, ”Miss Chen, who would have thought we’d run into each other here!”

Chen Lu was startled for a moment, and then put on her professional smile, ”Mr. Li, what a coincidence.”

Li Ze then turned to look at Zhang Jingdong hesitantly, ”And this is?”

Chen Lu’s face slightly blushed, ”He’s my boyfriend!”

Li Ze didn’t expect Chen Lu to dare to introduce him so assertively and immediately felt a surge of anger inside.

He continued to stare at Zhang Jingdong, ”Brother, you must be quite capable to have won Miss Chen’s hand!”

Zhang Jingdong smiled, casually put his arm around Chen Lu’s shoulder, ”Excuse me, it wasn’t me who pursued her, but she who pursued me!”

Then turning his head to Chen Lu, ”Right, my dear?”

Chen Lu knew this was the moment to give Zhang Jingdong face, so she nodded shyly without hesitation.

Li Ze, seeing this, felt his anger ignited.

Damn, this kid got lucky but also dares to provoke me, don’t blame me for not giving you face!

Then he said, ”Brother, seeing as you’re about my age, surely you must be into cars, right? Why not join our racing club? I can recommend you.”

”But we have a basic entry requirement, you first must have a sports car, that shouldn’t be a problem for you, right?”

Zhang Jingdong smiled and shook his head, ”Sorry, I’m not interested.”

Upon hearing this, Li Ze immediately concluded that Zhang Jingdong didn’t have a sports car, as he pretty much knew every young person in Jiangdu who had one.

And he had never seen Zhang Jingdong at any of the club’s gatherings before.

So he said sarcastically, ”Brother, our club has many invisible resources, are you sure you don’t want to join? Or... can’t you afford a sports car?”

After he said this, the two other members who were also from the racing club looked at Zhang Jingdong with mocking faces.

Chen Lu couldn’t help but interject, ”Mr. Li, please be more respectful in your speech!”

Li Ze was even more convinced that Zhang Jingdong was a nobody, and sneered, ”Respect is gained through strength, Miss Chen. I advise you to find a truly capable boyfriend next time, or it’s easy to be embarrassed!”

Just as Chen Lu was about to retort, Zhang Jingdong suddenly kissed her cheek.

”My dear, I didn’t know why you pursued me before, but now I get it, it’s all thanks to the contrast these people provide!”

Li Ze narrowed his eyes slightly, ”What do you mean by that?”

Zhang Jingdong directly met his gaze, ”Whatever you think it means, that’s what it means.”

Li Ze’s eyes hardened, ready to start a fight, when the two guys beside him quickly held him back.

”Mr. Ze, it’s beneath you to fight with this kind of person, let it go!”

”Yeah, Mr. Ze, you don’t need to lift a finger, after we leave the elevator, this guy will go weak at the knees when he sees your car!”

The elevator doors opened as soon as they finished speaking.

Li Ze glared at Zhang Jingdong fiercely, then led a few people out of the elevator.

Outside, as if to show off, Li Ze purposefully waited for Zhang Jingdong to leave before taking out his car keys.

He pressed a button, and not far away, a very flashy Porsche 911 flashed.

The two other men next to him, looking to boost Li Ze’s morale, also took out their car keys and pressed them, and next to them, an Audi RS5 and a BMW Z4 also flashed.

Zhang Jingdong laughed at this scene: I really thought each of you had an Enzo Ferrari.

He then also took out his car keys and pressed them.

Li Ze and the other two were stunned when they saw the orange Lamborghini flash nearby!

Zhang Jingdong ignored their looks, wrapped his arm around Chen Lu, walked over to the car, and got in.

Then, after a sequence of actions, with all of them watching, he quickly disappeared from the spot.
