As A Maid, I Can Fix Her!

Chapter 120: Chapter 18 - Library Light Tease

Less than a day...

I already regret creating spicy mayonnaise and sandwiches in this novel world...

If the spicy mayonnaise sandwich craze ends today, I’ll be grateful to the Great Goddess of this novel’s world. But if the sandwich craze doesn’t end today, I’ll consider the Great Goddess already abandoned this novel’s world.

My daytime work involves boiling hard-boiled eggs, arranging bottle glass of spicy mayonnaise, and packing food-sealing tape ribbon. It continues into the evening.

Today, my job is to manage the non-stop production of spicy mayonnaise and ensure every ingredient is used up. The Head Maid shares the same predicament, as she has a hidden agenda with the spicy mayonnaise.

I don’t need to know what secret plan she’s planning, because it’s definitely related to Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld. It has nothing to do with me. If I interfere in their affairs, my bad karma will only increase.

My ill-advised plan to make a spicy mayonnaise sandwich that would give me a stomachache failed miserably. My bad karma led me to endless hours of making spicy mayonnaise. There was no way to refuse that order; when demand for spicy mayonnaise had skyrocket.

Even on this quiet evening, I was accompanied by a spicy sandwich for dinner. The sandwich featured a more... I mean, a large piece of grilled meat, as a reward for my hard work, who making spicy mayonnaise all day.

While it’s a bit of an exaggeration to consider all this as bad karma, I did experience some good karma. Especially in the looks the kitchen maids to me, who looked at me as if I were a level above them. The Head Maid was also polite to me during the spicy mayonnaise-making process. It all demonstrated my close relationship with the Head Maid and the Duke’s family.

Swooosshhh...

Swooossshh...

Sitting alone in the flower garden, next to Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld’s library, I cleared my head a bit by eating dinner alone. My mother had taken extra shifts after the main kitchen became a mess with an overabundance of spicy mayonnaise jobs. So it took a while to clean up the mess.

While I was alone, I heard small footsteps coming from the library. The bright light of a magic lantern shone through the gaps in the windows; it seemed some of the maids on duty had forgotten to close the curtains inside.

My spicy sandwich dinner was almost finished, and I was feeling a little bored from eating the same thing all day. Spicy sandwiches are delicious, but eating them every day can get boring.

My gaze fell upon the light of the magic lantern, and a small girl with long, pastel purple hair and an elegant ribbon in her long hair entered my sight. It was Master Amagi, who was seen reading a thick book in the library. Alone, carrying a spicy sandwich for dinner and a thick book that she couldn’t put down.

She was intently reading the magic book, which contained complex vocabulary. It was so complex that I could see her eyebrows raise. Understanding magic books written by adults is indeed difficult. This is especially ”true” with different upbringings, different language comprehension, and different concepts of magic. Forcing others to understand someone else’s thoughts as a pretext for correct magical teachings is the big reason... why magic books is so difficult to understand.

Krreesshhh...

Kreeeessshhh...

I quickly ate the last piece of the spicy sandwich with reluctance. The spiciness wasn’t that overwhelming, just a tad bland on my mouth. I’d hoped it would taste like fried chicken doused in a super-hot sauce that was runny and boiling like volcanic lava.

But what can I do? I have to restrain myself...

So, I don’t go too far in making spicy food to serve to noble families, like a spicy volcano sauce.

Gluuuppp...

Swallowing the last of my spicy sandwich, I quickly made my way to the library. The darkness hadn’t dampened Master Amagi’s keen interest in reading magic book; she wasn’t even afraid of encountering ghosts at night.

Oh, wait a minute...

With Master Amagi’s acutely shy personality, she is more afraid of meeting other people during the day than ghosts at night.

Yes, that’s the Master Amagi I know...

I feel the same way as Master Amagi. Sometimes, it’s nice to be alone in a dark place like this. Especially in a dark flower garden without mosquitoes or other itchy insects.

Tap...

Tap...

Passing the edge of the library building, I entered the front door with quiet steps. I tried my best to avoid revealing my presence or startling Master Amagi, who was absorbed in her reading.

How could I possibly tease a girl who was diligently reading a magic book, right?

Even though I possess the body of a little girl, I will not act so childishly!

Or that’s what I thought before...

Kllaappp...

My hand gently closed the library entrance door, barely a sound echoing inside. The sound of the door closing was quite loud, but Master Amagi didn’t notice it, as if she were lost in the book she was reading. Her beautiful pastel purple eyes danced across the intricate lines of text, making her look like the ultimate bookworm.

Luckily, I was still wearing my maid uniform.

So, I could carry out my duties as an apprentice maid serving Master Amagi at night. I was a little sweaty; I hadn’t showered in the evening, and for some reason, the habit of evening baths almost disappeared from my routine as Liliana.

”Everyone’s magic is different...”

”Finding a suitable magic affinity is the most basic task as a mage.”

”This is very different from my Mother says, who said the first step for a mage is to feel mana and mana capacity to see how far magic can be cast.”

”Affinity... what is that?” Master Amagi muttered with a confused expression.

Master Amagi seems to have discovered a new vocabulary that’s a little more complicated than usual. Using complicated vocabulary in their handwritten book, I’m pretty sure those mages don’t want to share the magic they’ve learned.

For me, who understood the meaning of the term ”magic affinity,” the general explanation was quite easy. However, for a girl who hadn’t been educated in complex vocabulary, it felt like a confusing, mysterious term.

My footsteps continued to approach Master Amagi, who was lost in her confusion. Passing the tall bookshelves in the library, I deliberately detoured to avoid Master Amagi’s notice.

Kreeeesshhh...

Kreeeessshhh...

The still-confused Master Amagi scratched her cheek, looking annoyed by the complicated vocabulary she encountered, and ended up venting her small emotions on the spicy sandwich she brought for dinner.

”Liliana is still busy working. I don’t want to bother her with these complicated questions.”

”Affinity... Affinity... What is that actually?”

”If all magic books used different vocabulary and understanding of magic like this... What would magic be like in the future?”

”There are different theories of magic, some of which are considered impossible, some of which have never been thought of before, and all of which are written down in the magic books that are sold freely.”

”Liliana understands things about magic far deeper than I do. Casting delayed magic spells that can activate at any time, explaining magical theory using simple, everyday language, and modifying magic that is generally only learned by high-level mages.”

”Oh, Liliana... where did you get that kind of idea from?”

Master Amagi seemed to be muttering nonstop. She called my name repeatedly, her words filled with admiration that made me feel shy to approaching her. As an author who understands the rules of magic in this novel’s world, I can say that all magic relies on one’s imagination. Without a strong imagination, miracles like magic cannot occur.

The only thing that prevents magic in this world from being hampered is humanity’s limitations in imagining things.

I managed to sneak behind Master Amagi, who was pensive over her little question about magic.

”To be honest, I don’t know either, Master Amagi.”

”All those ideas just came into my head,” I replied in a small whisper in her ear.

Dkkuutt!!

Dkkuutt!!

”HYAAAAAA!! L-LILIANA?!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!!”

Master Amagi’s body shook violently. She nearly fell off the reading sofa, so I held her steady with a gentle touch on her shoulder.

”I saw the light of a magic lantern in the library and was curious to see someone still there at night. Fufu~ Master Amagi is so diligent in reading late into the night, huh?” I replied with a gentle smile.

”I-I almost screamed out loud. Thank goodness it was you, Liliana!” Master Amagi complained, looking annoyed at me, but her expression quickly changed to one of relief.

”Thinking about me, Master Amagi?” I asked, seeing an opportunity to tease her.

”N-No, I’m thinking about something else right now,” she replied, quickly looking away.

Bluussshh...

Under the light of the magic lantern, I could see her face blushing in embarrassment at my teasing. Master Amagi tried to hide her expression by looking to the side.

But the me behind her had guessing that, I followed the movement of Master Amagi’s head who refused to look at me.

Swwiiippp...

Swwiiippp...

Looking to the right...

Looking to the left...

I could see her blushing face clearly.

”Is Master Amagi thinking about?” I asked, teasing her further.

”I-I’m NOT!!”

Boonkk!!

My head was suddenly get hit by the thick magic book that Master Amagi was reading.

It doesn’t hurt that much...

Since I had already seen her cute, blushing face, I thought that the slap from this thick magic book was nothing compared to the embarrassment she was experiencing.

Being slapped by a shy and cute girl like Master Amagi- that’s everyone’s happiness, right?
