Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 533: Chapter 476: The Three Yellow Plum Tree

Prince Dai showed a hint of disappointment in his eyes upon hearing the words, but he quickly perked up.

”I’ll go seek permission from the Emperor right away, Master, please wait for a moment!”

After saying this, he didn’t wait for Yang Zhenshan’s consent and trotted off from Marquis Mansion.

Yang Zhenshan watched his departing figure, somewhat caught between laughter and tears.

This Prince Dai is really impetuous, truly unwilling to waste even a moment.

”Grandfather, will you accept Prince Dai as a disciple?”

After Prince Dai had left, Yang Chengye asked.

Yang Zhenshan smiled and asked, ”Do you think it’s appropriate?”

Yang Chengye pondered for a bit, ”Although I met Prince Dai for the first time, I think his character is pure, and his heart is sincerely inclined towards martial arts. However, he is after all a prince; accepting him as a disciple might bring some trouble!”

”Of course, Grandfather probably isn’t afraid of these troubles. Whether to accept Prince Dai as a disciple depends entirely on Grandfather’s mood!”

”If Grandfather likes him, then he will accept; if Grandfather doesn’t like him, then he won’t!”

Hearing this, Yang Zhenshan couldn’t help but burst into hearty laughter.

”You’re right, if I wish to accept, I will, and if I don’t, no one can force me!”

He was very satisfied with Yang Chengye’s response. Yang Chengye first considered Prince Dai’s character, then his identity, and finally guessed Yang Zhenshan’s thoughts.

Although it was just a few words, it proved that Yang Chengye’s thinking was comprehensive, and he prioritized Prince Dai’s character before considering his identity.

This shows that he values character over status.

Accepting a disciple is a serious matter, naturally putting character first, with status and position being less important.

A disciple of noble status, who lacks a respectful heart towards their master, is also a scourge.

A disciple of humble origin, who is exceptionally filial towards their master, is likewise a good student.

Of course, Yang Chengye also has his shortcomings; he is still too young and has not considered some complex issues.

For example, Yang Zhenshan also weighs gains and losses!

Whether accepting Prince Dai as a disciple would be advantageous for the Yang family, whether benefits outweigh the detriments.

Yang Zhenshan can act according to his mood, but he also has to consider the Yang family.

”Have Wu Zheng inquire about Prince Dai’s reputation!” Yang Zhenshan commanded Yang Mingcheng.

”Alright!”

Yang Mingcheng agreed, then added, ”By the way, Wenyuan, Lin Zhan, and Jinyan are here; they are in the back hall.”

Yang Zhenshan nodded, ”I know, off you go!”

After speaking, he led Yang Chengye to the back hall.

”Uncle by marriage!”

”Master!”

”Father-in-law!”

The three were drinking tea and quickly got up to offer their greetings when Yang Zhenshan entered.

”Hmm, take a seat, no need to be formal. We’re all family!”

Yang Zhenshan sat by the tea table, pressed down his hand, indicating for them to sit.

Lu Wenyuan is still making his rounds at the Six Ministries, but he is no longer in the Ministry of Revenue. Right before the new year, he was transferred to serve as an External Gentleman of the Ministry of Rites. Perhaps because of his youth, his progress through the ranks is not swift.

With his current pace of promotion, it’s estimated that it would take ten years in the Six Ministries for him to ascend to the position of Vice Minister.

But even after ten years, he would only be just forty.

A forty-year-old Vice Minister can be certainly said to have unlimited prospects.

In comparison, Lin Zhan’s career seems a bit dimmer; he is still serving as a principal in the Ministry of War.

As for Liang Jinyan, being the offspring of nobility, without a hereditary title, it would be unusual for him to have great prospects unless he takes to the battlefield. Otherwise, he could retire in the Military Department of Five Cities, which is a mere Standard Sixth Rank government office, led by nothing more than a Standard Sixth Rank Commander.

If Liang Jinyan is here, then Yang Yunxue must have come too. She’s probably off chatting with Yu Qingyi.

After chatting with them in the back hall for a while, Yang Zhenshan left them to Yang Chengye’s care and went to see Yang Yunxue in the main courtyard.

Not only Yang Yunxue was there, but Lu Lushi and Lin Zhengshi were also present.

Lu Lushi is Lu Wenyuan’s wife, hailing from the serene Lu family, and is the youngest daughter of the Clan Leader Lu Zhongdao, who retired to his hometown several years ago. Nowadays, the well-being of the serene Lu family entirely depends on Lu Zhi,

but a camel on its last legs is still bigger than a horse; although Lu Zhi is currently just a Prefect, the Lu family also has a son-in-law like Lu Wenyuan, so it can’t be said that the Lu family is declining.

In the future, the Lu family will have to rely on Lu Wenyuan. This is the tie of marriage.

Naturally, Lu Wenyuan also borrowed quite a lot of strength from Lu Zhongdao, since Lu Zhongdao is a third-rank Minister of Honglu Temple, and he still has some connections in the Capital City.

As for Lin Zhengshi, who is Zheng Xiao’s eldest daughter Zheng Xinnian, her marriage to Lin Zhan was arranged by Yang Zhenshan himself and Yu Qingyi.

Last year, Lin Zhengshi bore Lin Zhan a son named Lin Yaogzu— a very common name, but it fits Lin Zhan’s character.

Upon seeing Yang Zhenshan arrive, they all promptly got up to greet him.

”Dad!” Yang Yunxue’s eyes curved into crescent moons, beaming with happiness.

The Yang family’s move to the Capital City pleased no one more than Yang Yunxue.

For many years, she hadn’t returned to her family’s home for a reunion. Now that the Yang family had come to the Capital City, she could return to her parents’ home at any time.

”Please sit, all of you continue chatting!”

”This is Qingqing, come here, let Grandpa hold you!” Yang Zhenshan said while looking at the little girl in Yang Yunxue’s arms, with a smile.

”Quick, greet your Grandpa!” Yang Yunxue nudged the little girl.

”Qingqing greets Grandpa!” The little girl’s voice was crisp and youthful.

Yang Zhenshan’s face was full of affectionate smiles; this was his first time meeting the little girl.

The little girl was not shy, allowing herself to be held by Yang Zhenshan and looked at him with a face full of curiosity.
