Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 523: Chapter 470: The Frightened Zhou Lan

Yang Zhenshan gathered his thoughts and continued, ”The second matter concerns the Yang family’s descendants. Our Yang family’s roots are in Yang Family Village, and this is something we must never forget.”

”And the descendants of the Yang family are all our helpers. After I leave Chongshan Town, you all must look out for each other.”

Without Yang Family Village, the Yang family would become rootless duckweed; and without the support of the Yang family, the Yang Family would decline.

That relationship complements each other, and they are the closest allies.

A strange light flashed in Yang Mingzhi’s eyes, ”Dad, should I interact more with Ming Wu and Ming Zhen in the future!”

Yang Zhenshan’s gaze sharpened as he stared at Yang Mingzhi, ”I advise you to drop that idea!”

His tone was heavy, sending a chill through Yang Mingzhi’s heart.

”In the future, keep a low profile in Chongshan Town. I’ve also told Ming Wu and Ming Zhen to be discreet and not act rashly!”

”Oh, Dad, I understand!” Yang Mingzhi shrank his neck, daring not to say more.

How could Yang Zhenshan not know his son’s thoughts?

To speak unpleasantly, it’s no issue to say Chongshan Pass belongs to the Yangs now.

Five Camps, five Guerrilla Generals, Song Dashan, Luo Feiyu, Yang Mingwu, Yang Mingzhen, Yang Chengze, five camp officers Zuo Wan, Yang Chengxu, Yang Minghao, Han Fei, Yang Chengzhang.

Apart from Zuo Wan, who is a special case, the others are either descendants of the Yang family or close confidants of Yang Zhenshan.

Including Yang Mingzhi and Xie Yuan, two Assistant Generals.

To say Chongshan Pass belongs to the Yangs is an understatement.

And Yang Mingzhi’s intentions are clear, self-aggrandizement!

If Yang Zhenshan agreed, he could unite all descendants and confidants under the name of Yang Zhenshan.

By then, even if Zhou Lan came to Chongshan Pass, he would be sidelined.

But clearly, this is not what Yang Zhenshan wants.

What Yang Zhenshan wants is for the Yang family to rise steadily, not to take risks.

Although the Yang family now has the strength to assert themselves, they absolutely lack the power to confront the court.

Plus, Yang Zhenshan has no ambition to dominate the world, so he wouldn’t think of confronting the court.

Unless driven to desperation, Yang Zhenshan would not play the traitor.

Of course, that’s only what Yang Zhenshan himself thinks; as for whether future generations of the Yang family will have other ideas, that will be their own affair.

As the Yang family branches and flourishes, the future of the Yang family will hold endless possibilities.

”Keep a lower profile in the future, stop flaunting your authority as Mr. Yang!” Yang Zhenshan glared fiercely at Yang Mingzhi.

Of the three Yang brothers, Yang Mingzhi has the most ideas and the wildest heart.

Yang Mingzhi grinned sheepishly, ”Dad! I know I was wrong!”

Afterwards, Yang Zhenshan advised on a few more matters, and the father and sons talked for over two hours before finishing.

On the second day of the first lunar month.

Luo Shang came to the Marquis Mansion, and Yang Zhenshan had a long talk with him in the study.

Yang Zhenshan had met with the six major agents before, but he hadn’t gone into detail with Luo Shang.

Although the six major agents were all supported by Yang Zhenshan, the Luo family has the closest relationship with the Yang family.

Now that the Yang family’s focus will move to the Capital City, what should the Luo family do?

”What are your thoughts?”

In the study, Yang Zhenshan held a cup of hot tea, sipping as he asked.

”I want the Luo family to move to the Capital City with the Marquis!” Luo Shang said earnestly.

Yang Zhenshan looked up in surprise, ”The Capital City is not a good place, especially for wealthy merchants like you!”

In other places, businessmen can act like local tyrants, bribe officials, and engage in bullying without any issues.

In the Capital City, businessmen can only act subservient, and the businessmen there are all puppets of the privileged.

”Didn’t the Marquis mention that the court would establish the Imperial Commerce Bureau?” Luo Shang said.

Yang Zhenshan was taken aback.

Alright, he had forgotten about that.

He indeed had mentioned this to Luo Shang before.

But now he really doesn’t know whether Emperor Yanping will have the intention to establish the Imperial Commerce Bureau.

In theory, setting up the Imperial Commerce Bureau would be beneficial for Emperor Yanping, allowing him to control vast amounts of money without going through the Ministry of Revenue.

But now Emperor Yanping’s attitude is somewhat inscrutable, and he can’t guarantee that the Emperor will establish the Imperial Commerce Bureau in the future.

Yang Zhenshan thought for a moment and said, ”You can move to the Capital City, but the focus should still be on Chongshan Town!”

The matter of becoming an Imperial Merchant is uncertain, and since the Luo family’s foundation is in Liaodong and Chongshan Town, there’s no need to shift the focus to the Capital City now.

Once the matter of the Imperial Commerce Bureau is settled, then it’s not too late for the Luo family to move their focus to the Capital City.

”I’ll follow the Marquis’s advice!” Luo Shang said in a straightforward manner.

”You, you!” Yang Zhenshan pointed at him, somewhat exasperated.

Luo Shang chuckled, ”I believe the Marquis won’t harm me!”

”Alright, let’s have some tea!”

Yang Zhenshan picked up his tea and savored it.

...

Time soon reached the twenty-fifth day of the first lunar month.

Eight years later, Zhou Lan came to Chongshan Town again.

Looking at the majestic Chongshan Pass, Zhou Lan’s feelings were incredibly complex.

In fact, compared to the Capital City, she preferred Chongshan Town—the Capital City was like a cage, and she felt like a fierce beast trapped in a cage there.

Entering the town gate and seeing the bustling streets, a faint smile involuntarily appeared on Zhou Lan’s face.

It seemed even livelier than before!

When she arrived at the city gate leading to North City, Yang Zhenshan just received the news and came riding over.

The two locked eyes, and Yang Zhenshan laughed heartily, ”General Zhou, long time no see!”

Zhou Lan dismounted, her smile brimming as she looked at Yang Zhenshan.

”Marquis Yang remains as distinguished as ever!”
