Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 507: In the 461st Chapter, having an elder is like having a treasure in the family

Lv Hua landed on the boat and looked back, only to see Wei Cen falling through the air.

”Wei Cen!”

”Boss!”

The surrounding Secret Martial Guards witnessing this couldn’t help but exclaim.

”Protect the boss onto the boat!”

Ding San glanced at Ding Si and shouted.

Without further hesitation, Ding Si quickly picked up Wei Cen who had fallen to the ground, and threw him towards the boat, ”Governor Sir, catch!”

Standing on the boat, Lv Hua put down the person he was carrying and caught the thrown Wei Cen.

”Damn it!”

Wei Cen, recovering from the shock, couldn’t help but curse aloud.

The arrow had struck his shoulder, and he hadn’t felt much at first, but Ding Si’s grip on his shoulder nearly made him pass out from the pain.

”Get on the boat!” Lv Hua yelled.

Ding San killed an enemy in front of him and took the opportunity to look towards the river behind.

The boat was small, merely a ferry, capable of carrying just about a dozen people.

”Governor Sir, you all go!”

Lv Hua, watching the battle on the shore, had an extremely ugly expression on his face.

”Go!”

He did not delay any further. Continuing to hesitate might result in no one being able to escape.

Instead, if they left, their brothers could still jump into the river to escape.

The paddle moved, and the boat slowly entered the river, disappearing into the pitch-black night in the blink of an eye.

And the battle on the shore also ended quickly. The moment the boat disappeared, Ding San and Ding Si, among others, jumped directly into the river.

In no time, only corpses and about a dozen figures in black tight suits were left on the riverbank.

At this moment, a figure in a true-blue long robe with round neckline and draped in a columbine-colored silk cape, holding a longbow, arrived at the riverbank.

He looked at the dark river surface with his narrow eyes, his face ugly with anger as he scolded: ”A bunch of useless trash!”

The surrounding martial artists in tight suits dared not object at all.

The caped man glanced over the river surface, then nudged the corpses beside him.

”Throw them all into the river to feed the fish. We’ll cross the river tomorrow morning!”

...

Inside the Imperial Study Room of the Imperial City.

Emperor Yanping was processing court affairs, as Nansheng quietly approached.

”Your Majesty!”

”What is it?” Emperor Yanping asked without looking up.

”Last night, Governor Lv Hua of the Secret Martial Guard North Station stormed into the garrison commander’s prison and rescued Wang Zhongzhi!” Nansheng carefully observed Emperor Yanping’s expression while speaking.

Emperor Yanping suddenly looked up, ”What did you say?”

”Lv Hua rescued Wang Zhongzhi!” Nansheng quickly bowed his head and said.

Ma Rong ended up as the scapegoat, Wang Zhongzhi was rescued, and it was Governor Lv Hua of the North Station who did it!

Emperor Yanping’s face grew increasingly grim, his rage bubbling up like an erupting volcano, unable to be suppressed any longer.

”Very good, very good!”

These times were exceedingly frustrating for Emperor Yanping.

Rumors were rampant among the people saying ’the new emperor lacks virtue, causing chaos to the populace’, and many officials in the court nearly pointed directly at his nose to scold him.

The death of Yi Lishen was a heavy blow to him; he couldn’t even vent his anger, but had to calm down and appease those scholars and Confucian students, for which he had no choice but to push out Ma Rong.

Incident after incident disturbed his mental state.

”Where is he?” His tone was ice-cold.

”He has already escaped from the capital city, this old servant has already sent people to capture him,” Nansheng said, bowing his head.

Upon hearing this, Emperor Yanping still forcefully suppressed the rage in his heart, forcing himself to calm down.

Recently, many things had occurred, leaving him somewhat overwhelmed.

And the developments always seemed to exceed his expectations; he had thought he was finally in control of the court, but reality told him he was thinking too simply.

Not only had he failed to fully control the court, the court was gradually slipping out of his control.

After suppressing his anger, a heavy feeling of exhaustion welled up.

As the saying goes, the bystander sees the truth while the game player is bewildered!

Yang Zhenshan, far away in Liaodong, could see the strangeness in this situation.

Emperor Yanping, caught in the midst of it all, was disturbed by the numerous changes and could not discern where the problem lay.

Nansheng stood in front of him respectfully, bowing his head, not daring to speak.

Inside the Imperial Study Room, the other eunuchs also held their breath, afraid to draw Emperor Yanping’s attention at such a time.

For a moment, the Imperial Study Room was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.

After a long while, Emperor Yanping finally spoke again: ”Nansheng, you will temporarily oversee the Secret Martial Guards.”

”Your servant obeys!” Nansheng kneeled and kowtowed.

Emperor Yanping waved his hand irritably, signaling that he could leave.

After Nansheng had left, Emperor Yanping no longer had the inclination to handle court affairs; he got up and walked out of the Taiji Palace to the Fengxian Hall in the eastern side of the inner court.

Fengxian Hall is a ceremonial palace for venerating the royal ancestors.

After arriving at Fengxian Hall, Emperor Yanping sat in front of his ancestors’ spirit tablets, staring blankly at Emperor Chengping’s spirit tablet.

He had always believed he could be a good Emperor, but now he started to doubt himself.

Doubting his capabilities, doubting his nature, doubting whether he could be a wise ruler, and whether he could revitalize Da Rong.

Looking at Emperor Chengping’s spirit tablet, he recalled the ease with which Emperor Chengping handled the court affairs.

He suddenly realized how much inferior he was compared to his father.

But he did not know in what aspects he fell short.

Thus, he sat in the back hall of Fengxian Hall for two hours until a hoarse, old voice rang out.

”Your Majesty, are there no court affairs to tend to today?”

Unsure of when, an old man in a blue robe had appeared by Emperor Yanping’s side.

Emperor Yanping looked up at the old man and gave a helpless smile, ”Imperial Uncle, am I very incompetent?”

”Indeed, somewhat!” the old man said indifferently while stroking his beard.

Emperor Yanping was at a loss for words.

Uncle!

Can’t you say something pleasing to hear and comfort my heart?

”Does Imperial Uncle have any advice for me?”

Still indifferent, the elder spoke, ”The old man has never been an Emperor; what could I teach you? Plus, your father has already taught you everything!”

”Did he?” asked a puzzled Emperor Yanping.

He couldn’t recall what his father had taught him.

”He did!” the old man handed three incense sticks to Emperor Yanping, ”Now that you are here, why not offer some incense?”

Emperor Yanping stood up and obediently offered the incense.

After he finished the offering, the elder said, ”Alright, you should leave now; you won’t find the answer here.”

”Then where can I find the answer?” Emperor Yanping asked.

The elder glanced at him and retorted, ”You indeed fall short of your father!”

...

Emperor Yanping looked at him, filled with silent resentment.

I am the Emperor!

Even if you are of a higher generation, you should have some regard!

Unfortunately, the elder did not care about his resentment and said, ”Do you know the first thing your father did after he ascended the throne?”

”What did he do?” Emperor Yanping asked.

”He invited me to this Fengxian Hall and let me stay here for a lifetime!”

Emperor Yanping stared at the elder in surprise; he was unaware of this.

”Why?”

”Having an elder in the family is like possessing a treasure!”

Emperor Yanping was puzzled, ”But isn’t Imperial Uncle here in Fengxian Hall now?”

”I haven’t interfered in court affairs for thirty years!”

Upon hearing this, a gleam of inspiration suddenly flashed in Emperor Yanping’s eyes, followed by a smile spreading across his face.

”Thank you for your guidance, Imperial Uncle!”

Having an elder in the family is like possessing a treasure!

Although the elder before him was still a treasure, he was different from thirty years ago; he hadn’t involved himself in court affairs for over thirty years and was unfamiliar with the current court politics, thus he could not provide help to Emperor Yanping.

Now, Emperor Yanping needed an elder who was familiar with court affairs to guide him through the confusion.

So, who would be the most suitable?

The elder waved his hand, ”Your Majesty, it’s better if you come here less; I now enjoy the quiet.”

Hearing this, the smile that had just spread across Emperor Yanping’s face instantly froze.

Probably the only person who could dare to send him away within the Imperial City was the elder before him.

”Then I will not disturb Imperial Uncle’s peace.”

Emperor Yanping still spoke with a smile, then placed his hands in his sleeves and left Fengxian Hall with a bright smile.

With a plan in mind, Emperor Yanping felt very pleased at that moment.

Even though the current situation was still a headache, he had found a method to tackle it.
