Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 515: Chapter 466: How Dare an Eunuch Run Wild at Chongshan Pass! Does This Marquis Have No Regard for His Reputation?

”City Guard Bureau! Does my Imperial Guard Department really need a token from the City Guard Bureau to go anywhere?”

The tall, thin man was getting impatient, reaching into his waist and pulling out a bronze token, flashing it in front of the flag officer.

”Do I need a token to enter the Imperial City? How could the mere Chongshan Pass require one?”

Seeing the token, the flag officer involuntarily took a nervous step back, such a token he had never seen before. In these recent years, there had been many people coming to Chongshan Pass from the Capital City, but almost all of them sent someone ahead to inform us, followed by orders from the General Mansion or the Governor’s Office to authorize passage, or Yang Zhenshan and Pang Tang personally going out of the city to welcome them.

After hesitating for a moment, the flag officer still shook his head and said: ”Please forgive me, sir, but without a token, foreign soldiers are not allowed into the city!”

This was a standing order; not to mention foreign soldiers, even soldiers from the Five Camps, apart from those on duty, were not allowed to wear armor into the city.

If the soldiers wanted to enter the city to buy things or return home, that was allowed, but they couldn’t wear armor.

In the military, armor was the most important equipment, even more crucial than weapons.

Without a mission, soldiers were not allowed to leave their camp in armor, let alone enter the city armored.

As soon as the flag officer had finished speaking, a flash of annoyance passed through the eyes of the tall, thin man.

”Out of the way!”

He had lost his patience, the mighty Imperial Guard Department being stopped outside the city by a few low-ranking soldiers, this was simply a joke.

On their entire journey, no one had dared to obstruct them, everywhere they’d been they were received with the utmost deference, yet now at Chongshan Pass, a mere gatekeeping flag officer dared to stand in their way.

”Please forgive me, sir!” The flag officer bowed with a fist in hand.

However, what he received in return was the lash of a whip.

With a snap, the flag officer, caught off-guard, was whipped away more than ten feet, crashing heavily to the ground.

This action immediately tightened the atmosphere at the city’s entrance.

When the city guards saw their superior officer struck, they promptly drew their swords and spears, pointing them at the opposing cavalry, with several soldiers quickly stepping forward to shield the flag officer.

”Sir, sir!”

”Out of the way!”

The tall, thin man shouted again with a cold voice while steadily advancing towards the city gate.

The soldiers didn’t dare to attack directly and could only step back bit by bit.

The barriers were pushed aside, and the soldiers were forced back into the gatehouse, then further into Vessel City.

At this point, the flag officer, being propped up by soldiers, woke from his faint.

The tall, thin man’s whip had knocked him out cold, even tearing through the cotton armor on his chest, leaving a deep, bloodied wound where the chill of the air rushed in, almost taking his breath away.

”Blow the whistle!”

The flag officer snatched off the whistle around his neck and handed it to a soldier beside him.

The next moment, a shrill whistle pierced Vessel City, echoing into the city.

Hearing the whistle, the tall, thin man’s expression grew even more sullen, his murderous gaze at the unsteady flag officer completely unmasked.

But before he could react, a rustling sound of iron armor friction emerged, followed by orderly and heavy footsteps coming from inside the gatehouse of Vessel City.

Immediately, a large group of soldiers clad in iron armor surged out from inside the city gate, while atop the walls of Vessel City emerged many archers ready with bows.

”What’s going on?”

A thousand commander from the Right Camp strode forward with a heavy expression.

”Sir, they are forcing their way through the city gate!”

Thousand Commander Lin Anguo’s eyes turned sharply towards the cavalry group, flashing with ferocity.

Lin Anguo was no ordinary figure; he had joined the Camp long before, a mere soldier when Liang Chu was in charge of Chongshan Town, and promoted to Bazong of the Rear Camp during Ji Feiyu’s command!

And when Ji Feiyu rebelled and Yang Zhenshan led the army to attack Chongshan Pass, Lin Anguo was the first Military Officer from the Rear Camp to defect during the battle.

Because of this merit, after Yang Zhenshan took charge of Chongshan Town and awarded honors, he was promoted to thousand commander of the Right Camp.

Lin Anguo was an old soldier, having experienced the war in the Northern lands and the battle for Chongshan Town, a Military Officer who had worked his way up from the very bottom.

If not for his advanced age and only reaching the Postnatal Third Layer of cultivation, his achievements would be far more than just a thousand commander.

He was bold and resolute on the battlefield, willing to fight and switch sides when needed, bringing his soldiers into the fray; this much attested to his courage and determination.

”Who are you people, daring to force your way through Chongshan Pass?” Lin Anguo asked coldly.

”We are the Imperial Guard Department on a case! How dare you obstruct us?” Although irritated, the tall, thin man did not dare to be too arrogant given the situation.

With hundreds of arrows pointed at them from the city walls, and hundreds of iron-clad soldiers blocking the city gate, even if he was backed by hundreds of the Imperial Guard Department’s experts, he did not dare to claim they could withstand the soldiers in front of them.

”Imperial Guard Department!”

Lin Anguo narrowed his eyes; he was unaware of what sort of government office the Imperial Guard Department was, as it had almost never ventured out of the Imperial City before.

Not to mention a borderland Military Officer like himself, even officials from the Capital City probably wouldn’t understand what type of office the Imperial Guard Department was.

”Sheathe your weapons, leave the city gate at once, and wait for an order!”

”Before a command is issued from the General Mansion, if you dare step through the city gate again, you will be treated as mutineers!”

Lin Anguo showed no intention of backing down.

He wasn’t clear about the severity of the Imperial Guard Department, but he knew the military law of the Five Camps was strict.

He couldn’t bear the responsibility of allowing foreign soldiers into the city on his own accord.

Once something went wrong, the higher-ups could very well have his head according to military law.

The expression on the tall, thin man’s face turned uglier. He thought the arrival of an officer meant they could enter the city.
