Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 505: Chapter 460 Grandpa, I Think Whips Are More Formidable Than Guns!_2

”Of course it’s true!” Yang Zhenshan reached out to rub her little head and chuckled, ”But you need to be cautious, there are quite a few heartbreakers in this world!”

Yang Qingwan was overjoyed but confidently said, ”Grandpa, rest assured, Qingwan’s husband will definitely be a great man of honor and valor.”

”Talking about a husband again, you little girl better not spout nonsense. If your mom hears this, you’re in for a lesson!” Yang Zhenshan scoffed.

Hearing this, Yang Qingwan shrank her neck, then looked around, and only began to giggle after confirming that Ms. Wang was not there.

”Grandpa, about mom!”

”You go tell her yourself!” Yang Zhenshan refused without hesitation.

That sort of matter would just be asking for complaints!

Alright, he had agreed anyway, even if he didn’t go to Ms. Wang himself, he figured she would probably blame him in her heart.

”Oh! Then I’ll talk to mom myself!” Yang Qingwan wasn’t disheartened, with grandfather’s approval, even if mom was reluctant inside, she wouldn’t dare to object.

Hee hee~~

Grandpa is so nice!

Watching the cheerfully departing little girl, Yang Zhenshan couldn’t help but shake his head slightly.

”This girl is sure to be a handful in the future!”

After resting for two days, Yang Zhenshan resumed his routine of going to and from the office.

He arrived at the General Mansion at 7 a.m. sharp, had lunch there, and left at around 5 p.m. to return to the Marquis Mansion. As a working man, Yang Zhenshan believed punctuality was a traditional virtue of the workforce.

However, in Chongshan Town, no one could really lord over Yang Zhenshan, so his schedule was quite flexible. If he got bored in the office at the General Mansion, he’d visit the military camps, and if he returned early from the camps, he’d just go straight home. After all, he didn’t need to clock in.

The basic training for the Five Camps had long finished, and they were now undergoing combat training. As for the various Relief Camps, over the past year, they would come to Chongshan Pass in batches to carry out basic training.

Currently, the soldiers of the West Road Relief Camp had all completed their basic training, while only one-third of the soldiers from the other Five Relief Camps had done so.

The West Road Relief Camp finished their training first because, on one hand, they needed to face the Wuliang Hu Clan and had to form combat capability as soon as possible in case of emergency.

On the other hand, this year the other Five Relief Camps were involved in the reception and settlement of refugees, making it unsuitable to transfer too many soldiers to Chongshan Pass for training.

It would be better next year. According to the plan, next year all Six Relief Camps would have completed their basic training, and the combat capability of Chongshan Town will enter a new stage.

That afternoon, as Yang Zhenshan was returning from the military camp outside the city and passing through South City, he noticed a teahouse surrounded by a crowd of people.

From inside the teahouse came bursts of cheers and applause intermittently.

Yang Zhenshan, riding past the street, curiously glanced into the teahouse.

”Why is this teahouse so bustling?”

Entertainment was scarce in Chongshan Pass City; places like brothels and flower houses were out of the question, simply because most inhabitants were military men who did not fancy such cultured establishments.

Comparatively, there were many simple brothels.

There was an alley on the west side of South City, the largest red-light district in Chongshan Pass City.

Besides the red-light district, the only entertainment in the city were theater troupes and story-telling in teahouses, with story-telling in teahouses being the most popular.

Martial Arts were prevalent in Da Rong, and the worldly society was rife with countless extraordinary tales. Ordinary people and Martial Artists alike enjoyed hearing about the strange and fascinating events from the lives of adventurers.

In such a society starved for entertainment, the teahouse where people could listen to stories was almost always packed.

Yang Zhenshan also liked to listen to stories in teahouses. Storytellers had the gift of eloquent speech, able to narrate stories vividly and engagingly, making it very interesting to listen to.

Unfortunately, his official duties kept him busy, and he rarely had the chance to spend time enjoying stories in teahouses.

Today, he came back early and seeing the teahouse so lively, he became intrigued.

His Personal Followers approached to eavesdrop and then came back to report with a beaming smile: ”Marquis, the storyteller in the teahouse is talking about the Marquis’s brilliant strategies at the Battle of Guanshan Pass!”

”Uh!”

Yang Zhenshan didn’t expect that they were discussing his own deeds inside; it gave him the peculiar sensation of becoming the subject of gossip.

However, he was also very curious as to how the storyteller would narrate his story.

”You all take the horses back, I’m going to listen in!”

Saying this, he handed the reins to his Personal Followers and quietly squeezed into the crowd.

He was wearing a dark green brocade sheepskin jacket today, which, although impressive, did not stand out too much outside the teahouse.

He didn’t need to push his way inside; just standing at the door, he could hear the storytelling.

Clack~

The storyteller’s clapper sounded, followed by a clear and bright voice.

”In the midst of the raging valley fire, little Prince Wu Tuo was so scared he cried and wailed, wetting himself in panic, but luckily the attendants by his side were still loyal. Seeing the fire approach, they quickly pulled Prince Wu Tuo onto a horse and fled helter-skelter.”

”Prince Wu Tuo was both scared and anxious, running while looking back in terror at the fire behind him, terrified the flames would catch up to him.”

”Seeing the fire getting farther away from him, he finally let out a sigh of relief.”

”But just at that moment~~”

”Clack~~” The storyteller’s clapper resounded once more, his voice growing louder.

”It seemed that Prince Wu Tuo caught a glimpse of a figure within the flames!”

”He even doubted his own eyes, rubbed them, and looked again, only to see someone astride a horse, charging out from amidst the roaring fire.”

”This person wore a phoenix-winged helmet and Light Armor, was about nine feet tall, and rode an extraordinary steed!”

”This horse, it must be said, was an extraordinary beast, not just majestic and spirited, but also able to stride through fire, racing through the fierce flames as if on flat ground~~”

Hearing this, Yang Zhenshan couldn’t listen any further.

Damn it, what an exaggeration!

Without hearing the rest, he knew that the figure striding through the fire must be himself.

He was crazy to rush into the fire.

To stride through fire—Red Cloud is indeed extraordinary, and calling it an extraordinary beast wouldn’t be too much, but to say it can walk on fire, well, you’d have to ask if it’s willing!

As for the storyteller’s Prince Wu Tuo, scared by the fire and running in a panic—

Although Yang Zhenshan didn’t know how Prince Wu Tuo had actually reacted at that time, he knew for certain that he was not some weakling.

Who is Prince Wu Tuo?

That’s the most formidable youngest son of King Wuliang.

He led tens of thousands of Northern barbarian cavalry to sweep through Liaoxi, defeating Da Rong’s army of three hundred thousand.

Although he lost at Guanshan Pass, it was because Yang Zhenshan had the advantages of timing, location, and unity!

At the battle of Guanshan Pass, regardless of who took on Yang’s role, they would likely be defeated.

Mastering timing, utilizing the terrain, and with Liang Chu leading tens of thousands of imperial guard as backup, it would have been difficult for Yang Zhenshan to lose.

Prince Wu Tuo never stood a chance.

Therefore, Prince Wu Tuo’s defeat at Guanshan Pass was not due to his incompetence.

And now, Prince Wu Tuo is still the most distinguished prince among the Wuliang Royal Family. Within the Wuliang Hu Clan, Wu Tuo still commands the highest call to succeed as king.

Even though he lost seventy thousand cavalry at Guanshan Pass, within the Wuliang Hu Clan, he still holds great influence.

Unless something unexpected happens, when the ageing King Wuliang passes away, Wu Tuo will inherit the throne of the Wuliang Hu Clan.

Such a person, to say he was scared by the fire into a blubbering mess!

Isn’t that nonsense?

But this is normal, storytellers always like to exaggerate the truth, using all sorts of exaggerated scenes to stir up the emotions of the listeners.

Mainly because Yang Zhenshan knew the real situation, so listening to this felt somewhat fabricated to him, but it was different for the other listeners around him—applause and exclamations came one after another, the atmosphere growing more and more fervent.

Yang Zhenshan shook his head slightly, turned around, and left the teahouse, heading back home.
