Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 511: Chapter 464: The Debts Owed Must Be Repaid

Night had fallen.

The drifting snow had finally ceased, bringing quiet to the Yang family who had rejoiced all day at the news of Mrs. Yu’s pregnancy.

In the main courtyard’s bedroom, Yang Zhenshan and Qingyi had already peacefully fallen asleep.

However, deep into the night, Yang Zhenshan suddenly opened his eyes.

He heard some noises that should not have been there, sounding like a scuffle.

The noise came quickly and left just as fast, with people talking faintly in the distance, yet too far for Yang Zhenshan to hear clearly.

Just as Yang Zhenshan hesitated about whether to get up and ask about the situation, the gate of the main courtyard was suddenly knocked on.

”Who is it!”

The gatekeeper granny draped in a coat came out of the gatehouse to ask.

”It’s Ding Qiu!”

”Housekeeper Ding?”

”I’ve got some urgent business with the Marquis!” Ding Qiu stood outside the gate.

”Housekeeper Ding, please wait a moment. The old woman will go and inform Miss Qingxia!”

Inside the bedroom, Qingyi also woke up, ”What’s happened?”

Yang Zhenshan got up and dressed, ”It shouldn’t be anything major, you go back to sleep!”

If it were a significant matter, it wouldn’t be so quiet outside. Of course, it wasn’t something minor either; otherwise, Ding Qiu wouldn’t come knocking in the middle of the night.

Qingyi got up and draped a fur coat over Yang Zhenshan, and at this moment Qingxia’s voice was heard outside the door.

”My Lord, Housekeeper Ding is looking for you!”

Yang Zhenshan, dressed, stepped out of the bedroom, ”You all go back to sleep, I’ll go take a look!”

After leaving these instructions, Yang Zhenshan went out the door.

”What’s the matter?”

Ding Qiu spoke in a hushed voice: ”Mr. Wei is here!”

”Mr. Wei? Which Mr. Wei?”

”Secret Martial Guards’ Wei Cen!”

Yang Zhenshan nodded nonchalantly, ”Where is he?”

”I’ve already invited him to the tea room,” said Ding Qiu.

Yang Zhenshan’s mouth curled slightly, ”He intended to sneak into the Marquis Mansion?”

”Uh, it was Shi Tou who found him. I thought he was a thief, so I captured him!” Ding Qiu said.

The Shi Tou he mentioned was one of the second batch of guards trained by the Yang family.

The first batch of guards trained by the Yang family was when Yang Zhenshan went to An Yuan City, with only twenty people. The second batch also trained in An Yuan City, selected from fifteen to sixteen-year-olds, a full hundred people.

As for the third and fourth batches, they were not just guards anymore. Some stewards outside had also been trained.

Moments later, Yang Zhenshan arrived at the tea room in the front courtyard.

Seeing Wei Cen grinning and sitting next to the tea table, Yang Zhenshan smirked, ”What do you take this Marquis Mansion for? Actually trying to sneak in stealthily?”

Back when he was in An Yuan City, Wei Cen could come and go from the Yang family estate as if it were unguarded, with no one other than Yang Zhenshan able to detect him.

But now, Wei Cen thought to sneak into the Yang family estate as if it were a place anyone could enter as they pleased.

Wei Cen glanced at Ding Qiu behind Yang Zhenshan, ”Back then, his cultivation was far inferior to mine!”

”That was the past, nearly a decade has gone by!” Yang Zhenshan sat down, examining Wei Cen from head to toe.

Ding Qiu had been with the Yang family for over ten years, and even before he turned thirty, he already had the cultivation of the Postnatal Realm. Now, after more than a decade, Ding Qiu’s cultivation had reached the Postnatal Ninth Layer, making him the person with the highest cultivation in the Yang family apart from Yang Zhenshan and Qingyi.

People like Wu Zhan and Wu Zheng were only at the Postnatal Eighth Layer, and even those disciples who had joined the Yang family from the Sky Blue Sword Sect were now at the Postnatal Seventh Layer.

And Wei Cen?

His cultivation had also reached the Postnatal Eighth Layer, but the Yang Family Guards all had exceptional hearing, such that even Gu Yunjian, who had stepped into the Innate Realm, could not escape the ears of the Yang family guards, let alone him.

”Do you have business with me?” Yang Zhenshan asked.

”It’s not me, but the garrison commander!” Wei Cen said.

”Mr. Lv has come too?” Yang Zhenshan was somewhat surprised.

Wei Cen’s face turned solemn, ”Not just the garrison commander, but also the station command head!”

Yang Zhenshan’s mouth hung open, taken aback.

”Which station command head?”

He actually had a guess as to who it was, but he still wanted to confirm.

”Mr. Wang!” said Ding Qiu.

Yang Zhenshan inhaled sharply.

”You really have brought me quite the trouble!”

Wang Zhongzhi had been stripped of his position and imprisoned long ago. By rights, he should now be in the Secret Martial Guard Station Command’s prison, yet he appeared in Chongshan Pass.

Without thinking, Yang Zhenshan knew that there must be problems within the Secret Martial Guards.

”If the garrison commander says you owe him a favor!” Wei Cen said.

The corners of Yang Zhenshan’s mouth twitched slightly; indeed, he owed Wei Cen a favor.

At that time, Wei Cen had mentioned that one day he might need Yang Zhenshan to save his life, and Yang Zhenshan truly did not expect that day to come.

However, the problem at hand wasn’t about saving lives, but about getting involved in the intrigues within the Imperial City.

If there were issues within the Secret Martial Guards, there was only one possibility: there were problems within the Imperial City.

He had felt that the situation in the Capital City was somewhat strange before, and now it seemed likely that everything stemmed from within the Imperial City.

Yang Zhenshan took a deep breath and asked, ”Where are Mr. Wang and Mr. Lv?”

”South City!” Wei Cen said.

Yang Zhenshan thought for a moment, ”Never mind, I’ll go and see for myself first!”

”You make sure to instruct the others that tonight’s events are not to be spread around!”

After instructing Ding Qiu, he left the Marquis Mansion with Wei Cen.

The two did not leave overtly but rather sneakily, slinking away, even scaling the city walls to get from North City to South City.

Although it was only a word away for Yang Zhenshan to open the city gates, he still chose to scale the walls with Wei Cen.

Better safe than sorry!

When it comes to matters involving the Secret Martial Guards and the inner workings of the Imperial City, no amount of caution is excessive.

As they scaled the wall, Yang Zhenshan glanced at the patrolling soldiers.
