Chaotic Sword God

The Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt shuddered inside as his wariness rocketed. Immediately, he looked back and saw an elderly figure standing silently in the mist.

She was an old woman, standing there with a cane. Her presence was perfectly contained, so even the Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt failed to sense her presence.

“You’re… vice cult leader Lan of the Ghost Immortal cult!” The Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt quickly recognised her, and his eyes narrowed. He subconsciously thought of the information he had received from the Profound Spirit Master, which filled him with fear and surprise. He stumbled a few steps back subconsciously.

He had learnt from the Profound Spirit Master that there were a few people that he could never afford to offend in the Skyscraping World. The vice cult leader of the Ghost Immortal cult, Lan Caidie, happened to be one of them.

When he mentioned vice cult leader Lan Caidie of the Ghost Immortal cult, the Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt could never forget about the Profound Spirit Master’s expression. With his powerful cultivation as a Fourth Heavenly Layer Immortal Exalt, he was actually very wary of Lan Caidie.

Yet in the end, the existence that even the Profound Spirit Master was wary of had miraculously appeared before his eyes. How could the Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt not be surprised?

“I am the city lord of the Yi Immortal City on the Hall Brilliance Heaven, Scarlet Fire. Greetings, vice cult leader Lan!” The Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt sucked in a deep breath. He clasped his fist towards Lan Caidie in complete respect. He behaved with great modesty before her.

Lan Caidie nodded gently before staring ahead without saying a word.

Following Lan Caidie’s gaze, the Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt knew that she was observing Jian Chen. After deliberating, he asked carefully, “Vice cult leader Lan, do you know fellow Yang Yutian as well?”

Lan Caidie said nothing as if she refused to talk with the Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt.

The Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt was not angered. He could tell that Lan Caidie did not want to converse with him, so he stood to one side quietly.

Not only did the Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt remain nearby, but the other cultivators around the stone tablet did not travel too far away either. They all stopped several hundred kilometres away, hiding themselves in the mist.

By now, Jian Chen had finished cleaning up the battlefield. After stowing away the Heaven-lifting sword and his spoils, he made his way back in the direction he had come from, arriving by Lan Caidie’s side in the blink of an eye.

“Let’s go back to where we were before.” When he passed by Lan Caidie, Jian Chen did not stop. After leaving behind that message, he vanished into the mist several hundred kilometres away.

As for the Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt who stood nearby, Jian Chen did not even spare a glance at him.

Lan Caidie glanced at Tian Changji’s corpse that lay at the foot of the stone tablet one last time and sighed silently inside before turning around and following Jian Chen.

That sight immediately filled the Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt with shock. He could clearly sense from Jian Chen’s demeanour and tone that he clearly treated Lan Caidie like a servant.

“The vice cult leader of the Ghost Immortal cult, Lan Caidie, is with Yang Yutian!” The Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt was greatly shocked. He had finally understood what Lan Caidie meant initially. If he chose to help Tian Changji, perhaps Lan Caidie would have taken action too.

After Jian Chen left, the cultivators lingering around all returned to the giant stone tablet. When they saw Tian Changji’s corpse, they all fell silent.

“I’ll take out this fellow of the Immortal Feather sect’s corpse and then find some way to hand it over to the Immortal Feather sect.” After a lengthy silence, an Immortal Emperor finally broke the heavy atmosphere. He created a casket using rock on the spot and carefully placed Tian Changji’s corpse inside.

“You better think things through. You better not mishandle this and end up enduring the wrath of the Immortal Feather sect instead, facing disaster for no good reason.” An Immortal Emperor warned him.

“I will tell them about what happened here truthfully. The Immortal Feather sect is one of the twelve courts of heaven. They will be reasonable,” the Immortal Emperor who collected Tian Changji’s corpse said sternly.

“G-great elder, y-you better stop saying that. W-what if that senior returns…” an early Immortal Monarch said in a trembling manner. He was extremely fearful, afraid that words might lead to disaster.

When he heard that, the Immortal Emperor who collected Tian Changji’s corpse subconsciously quieted down. He glanced in the direction that Jian Chen left in as his expression changed several times. He was also afraid of retribution.

In the end, he made up his mind and left without hesitation, immediately swallowed by the thick mist in the distance.

His departure made the dozen or so remaining cultivations glance at one another. Some of them also wanted to flee from this place of strife, just in case they were dragged in, but they were also reluctant to go when they looked at the tall stone tablet in front of them.

“What do we do? Do we leave or not? A great elder of the Immortal Feather sect died here…”

“This is one of the nine secret techniques that senior Skyscraping Sword Venerable left behind. If we just move on, it’s such a pity…”

......

…

In the end, only a few of the original dozen or so cultivators chose to stay behind. The others all gave up on the opportunity here after some deliberation, fleeing from the place.

The Scarlet Fire Immortal Exalt was one of the few who stayed behind. He dismissed his thoughts and continued comprehending the secrets of the stone tablet.

He had not grasped the Laws of the Sword, but he still hoped to gain some insight from the nine secret techniques of the Skyscraping Sword Venerable.

Jian Chen and Lan Caidie returned to the medicinal garden. They repeated the same trick. Jian Chen was responsible for draining the spiritual Qi from the area, while Lan Caidie and the Thousand Soul Demon Exalt would use the Energy-devouring Furnace to deplete the spiritual Qi.

However, after killing Tian Changji from the Immortal Feather sect, Jian Chen did not encounter any more people who tried to rob him for a very long time.

Jian Chen obviously preferred the peace he received, but Lan Caidie became much quieter than before. She had a long face all day long, where her wrinkles were squished together. She seemed like something was bothering her.

“Are you worried about retribution from the Immortal Feather sect?”

After eliminating a few more medicinal gardens, Jian Chen finally asked while Lan Caidie was free from picking heavenly resources.

Only after a moment of silence did Lan Caidie say sternly, “Although Tian Changji’s death has nothing to do with me, too many people already know that I am with you. If I had nothing tying me down, I would have no fears, but the Ghost Immortal cult behind me…”

Lan Caidie sighed heavily when she reached there.

“When I encounter Xing Caijian again, I’ll discuss this with her and see if the Heavenly Star Palace can help your Ghost Immortal cult handle this misunderstanding. After all, I was the one who killed the people from the Immortal Feather sect, not your Ghost Immortal cult,” said Jian Chen.

“If it were any other organisation, the Heavenly Star Palace could obviously resolve it with ease, but it’s different this time. Great elders from the Immortal Feather sect have died, and it’s three all at once.” Lan Caidie looked at Jian Chen and said with worry, “Actually, there’s something else I’m worried about apart from the Ghost Immortal cult, which is how the Heavenly Star Palace and the Immortal Feather sect will handle this matter. I’m even worried that a war will erupt between the Heavenly Star Palace and the Immortal Feather sect if this is mishandled.”

“I don’t need the Heavenly Star Palace to help me deal with my matter. I can handle it myself,” Jian Chen said without any concerns.

Very soon, they set off again towards the next medicinal garden.

But this time, when Jian Chen arrived at his destination, the medicinal garden had already vanished. All that remained was a field of holes. Clearly, someone had beat him to it.
