I Married the President

Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Only a Husband, No Boyfriend

At that moment, Claire Sinclair’s thoughts were perfectly clear as she spoke slowly. ”Mrs. Hale, we have an old saying in Aridia: one should not accept a reward without merit. This means one cannot accept gifts or favors for something they haven’t earned.

The one you are indebted to is my sister, not me. If I were to accept your kindness, it would be a reward without merit. In Aridia, such an act is considered unrighteous.

My sister was a person of great principle. For the sake of her reputation, I cannot accept your kindness. If I did, wouldn’t that make me a vain and unrighteous person?”

When Mrs. Hale was young, she had studied abroad in Aridia, where one of her required courses was Aridian classical studies. She understood these principles, but they were concepts that only people of prestige and cultivation could truly grasp.

She had not expected this young woman to be able to articulate such profound principles at her age and to hold them as her own personal stance. Such spirit and courage truly moved her.

”You really are just like your sister. I like your character. Very well! You’ve convinced me on this matter. I will absolutely not let you become an unrighteous person. But there is one thing you must accept on your sister’s behalf. Otherwise, I will become a bad person who fails to repay a debt of gratitude.”

With that, Mrs. Hale took a golden medal from her custom-made clutch. Engraved on it was the word ”hero.”

Claire Sinclair didn’t understand what it meant, so she asked curiously, ”Mrs. Hale, what is this?”

”This is our country’s Hero Medal. It represents the highest honor. Your sister is a hero to our nation. We originally wanted to present this medal to her in person, but alas... You are the person she trusted most, so please, accept this medal on her behalf.”

Staring at the glittering Hero Medal in Mrs. Hale’s hand, Claire Sinclair’s heart swelled with emotion.

’My sister paid the ultimate price for the justice she believed in. It’s only right that I accept this medal on her behalf.’

”Mrs. Hale, thank you.” Claire Sinclair accepted the medal with both hands. She could even feel its warmth, like her sister’s own passion.

’Sister, I will carry on your spirit!’

Afterward, Mrs. Hale shared many interesting stories with Claire Sinclair, mostly about things that happened between her sister and Little Prince Hale while she was on her mission in Country G.

Claire Sinclair was captivated, and she also shared some stories about her and her sister’s past.

Before they knew it, they had nearly exhausted the topic of Quinn Sinclair. Mrs. Hale suddenly changed the subject. ”By the way, what is your relationship with Duke Quincy?”

By Duke Quincy, she meant Adrian Quincy.

This was the collective title the foreign media used for the key figures of Quincy Manor. The title of ”Duke” wasn’t used within the country, as Aridia had no such system of nobility.

Claire Sinclair didn’t understand why Mrs. Hale had suddenly asked this question and, for a moment, was at a loss for how to respond.

After all, Adrian Quincy was an important official in Aridia; there were some things she couldn’t say carelessly.

Mrs. Hale seemed to notice her hesitation and said with a smile, ”I don’t mean anything by it. I just wanted to know if you and Duke Quincy are together. Before I came, he and I spoke about you on the phone, and he seems to think you’re very special, you know.”

’This question seems a bit personal. I probably don’t have to answer it, right?’

So, Claire Sinclair answered evasively, ”Mr. Quincy was my sister’s former superior.”

”So your relationship is just that of a superior and a subordinate?”

Claire Sinclair nodded. ”Yes.”

”Do you have a boyfriend then?”

”No.” ’I don’t have a boyfriend, just a husband.’
