I Married the President

Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Don’t Speak Carelessly Outside in the Future

As soon as she heard about learning English, Claire Sinclair immediately refused. ”Diplomatic English is too hard. I can’t be bothered to learn. And I don’t want to get involved in your business, so don’t drag me into this.”

Adrian Quincy made a meaningful remark. ”This ship of mine won’t be docked for long. You’d better get on board soon.”

”...” ’That didn’t sound like his usual cynical advice. It sounded a bit profound.’

Claire Sinclair didn’t understand his cryptic way of talking and had no idea how to respond, so she simply fell silent.

The car drove on, eventually stopping near Astoria Tower.

Claire Sinclair was about to get out and leave when Adrian Quincy called out to her. ”Hang on.”

”Is there something you need, Mr. Quincy?”

Adrian Quincy didn’t answer. He got out, walked to the back of the car, opened the rear door, and climbed in.

The man suddenly sat beside her in the back seat. His domineering presence washed over her, making the girl freeze as her heart began to race.

Just then, she heard the sound of the doors locking.

Claire Sinclair snapped to her senses and demanded, ”Why did you lock the doors?”

Without another word, the man gripped her chin. In a captivating voice, he said, ”This mouth of yours... from now on, don’t run it recklessly outside, and don’t run it at home either. Got it?”

”I didn’t...”

’Oh, crap. Don’t tell me he overheard me and Faye complaining last night?!’

’No wonder he was at home so early this morning. Turns out he never even left last night!’

Just as she was getting lost in thought, the man flicked her hard on the forehead, snapping her back to reality.

”Why’d you hit me!” The girl glared at him, her eyes wide.

The next second, Adrian Quincy raised his hand and gently pinched her chin with his thumb. ”Consider that getting off easy. Next time you run your mouth, I’ll get rough. Now, go to work.”

SLAM—

The girl slammed the car door shut and fled in a panic.

The corner of Adrian Quincy’s lips curled into a devilish smirk. ’She got away fast.’

...

The content editorial department was bustling first thing in the morning. Phoebe Lockwood had brought a box of specialty snacks, placing a few small packets on each person’s desk. It seemed there was enough for everyone in the department.

After she finished handing out the snacks, Phoebe Lockwood raised her voice. ”Please, everyone, try some! These are a local specialty from my grandmother’s hometown. I had my cousin bring them over especially for me. Please think of it as a little introductory gift from me, the newcomer, to all my seniors. Don’t be shy, give them a try. They’re delicious!”

As soon as she finished speaking, Claire Sinclair appeared at the door.

She arrived just in time to hear the veteran editors chiming in one after another:

”Lockwood, you’re so sweet! These specialties from your grandma’s hometown are delicious!”

”Haha, Lockwood, you’re the first person in our department to bring in treats like this. If you run into any trouble with work, don’t hesitate to ask me for help.”

A polite smile on her face, Phoebe Lockwood replied, ”Of course. Since I’m new here, I’ll be counting on everyone’s guidance.”

”Lockwood, I interviewed your father once. He’s the most talented governor we have in Aethelgard. I want to write a feature on him one of these days, and I’ll have to rely on you for an introduction. Our governor is so busy, it’s nearly impossible to get a meeting with him.”
