I Married the President

Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Does This Count as an Abuse of Power?

It was rare for anyone to ask about her work. Claire Sinclair, however, was too embarrassed to tell him the truth, afraid he would look down on her.

”I just do whatever the senior staff tell me to do.”

”There’s been a change of plans for tomorrow. You won’t need to join me in meeting Hermanro. Mrs. Hale has requested a private meeting with you. Host her well, and don’t neglect our Aridian customs.”

”What?” The news struck Claire Sinclair like a bolt from the blue.

’What have I ever done to deserve this? How could I possibly be qualified to host the president’s wife...’

As if he had read her mind, Adrian Quincy said in a deep voice, ”It’s quite simple. Just be a sincere host, and you won’t mess it up. Don’t worry.”

”That’s not it. I just don’t think I’m qualified to be on equal footing with the president’s wife. Besides, my English is terrible!”

”Mrs. Hale studied abroad in Aethelgard for three years, so she’ll have no problem communicating with you. You’re my wife. No one would dare say you’re not qualified.”

”But my editor-in-chief assigned me to the etiquette team for tomorrow’s event. I’ve already brought the uniform home, and I’m supposed to wear it there in the morning.”

Adrian Quincy’s brow furrowed slightly, and an inscrutable look clouded his eyes.

’The etiquette team is exhausting. They have to stand almost all day. Aside from bathroom breaks, they don’t even get to eat. How could they assign such a slender girl to that role? Are they out of their minds?’

The man didn’t respond. He simply picked up his phone and called Aiden Howkins. ”Call Astoria Daily. Arrange for an etiquette team to be sent over tomorrow. Cancel the one from Astoria Daily.”

Aiden Howkins was taken aback. ”Young Master Quincy, what reason should I give?”

”They put my woman on the etiquette team. They must have a death wish.”

”...”

’Alright, I know what to say now.’

Aiden Howkins acknowledged the command, and the call ended.

Adrian Quincy set his phone down and went back to eating his noodles.

Claire Sinclair stared at him with a strange expression. ”Mr. Quincy, wouldn’t this be considered an abuse of power?”

The man looked completely unfazed. ”They assigned someone as unprofessional as you to the etiquette team. I have every reason to question Astoria Daily’s ability to successfully manage the reception.”

’...What a perfect excuse.’

After a few more bites of noodles, Claire Sinclair’s phone suddenly rang. The caller ID read: Editor-in-Chief Summers.

Claire Sinclair nearly spit out her noodles. She quickly answered the call, ”Editor-in-Chief Summers, hello!”

”Claire, we just got a notice from the higher-ups. Our etiquette team has been canceled. They’re sending a professional team over instead, so you don’t need to wear the uniform tomorrow. Just come in business attire.”

Claire Sinclair was taken aback. ”Then what will I be doing there tomorrow?”

”It’s an opportunity for you to learn. You can see how we put together a special feature. It might become part of your job in the future.”

”Yes, I’ll be sure to study hard and learn as much as I can!”

Claire Sinclair was suddenly fired up with determination.

’Editor-in-Chief Summers has given me such a great opportunity. I’ll definitely work hard and learn everything I can tomorrow!’

’Oh, I almost forgot...’

Claire Sinclair looked up at the man’s handsome face. ”Mr. Quincy, my editor-in-chief wants me to go in tomorrow to learn. Before my meeting with Mrs. Hale, can I work with the rest of the newspaper staff?”

”Mm,” the man nodded.

”That’s wonderful! I can’t wait for tomorrow to come!” ’This way, I can learn so much.’

Seeing the girl’s eager and excited gaze, Adrian Quincy felt his own mood lift. He wanted to say something encouraging, but he was afraid she’d dismiss it as hollow platitudes.

Left with no choice, he resorted to another method...

He suddenly stood up, walked to her side, and leaned down. Cupping her chin, he precisely captured her soft lips with his own.

”Mmph...” Claire Sinclair’s mind went blank. ’He’s doing it again!’
