Ghost Catching System

”Isn’t that the level of a ruler from Hell? Scared away by Bai Ling.”

Wang Qing’s breathing grew rapid. He hurriedly called the Seventh District, reported the incident, and canceled all previously arranged plans.

Chu Hao returned to his cabin. Lifting his trousers, he saw his leg was swollen and red, easily a size larger than before. He felt like crying. That Divine Traveling Talisman was truly terrifying, and at the same time, he was wary of the power of Hell’s Minor Prison Master.

If the Little Prison Warden is that strong, how terrifying must Hell’s Major Prison Master be!

Besides, there were beings like Yanjun, even higher-level entities like the Ghost Emperor, and Ksitigarbha, who guided spirits from the mortal realm. This world is too terrifying.

”Fortunately, I’ve leveled up.” Chu Hao looked at his attributes, feeling very satisfied.

Tip: Pretentious Little Prince, known as the Little King in the Pretentious Realm. The Host has opened the first door to the Pretentious Realm. Furthermore, in the Pretentious Little Prince realm, after each act of pretentiousness, the System will evaluate how many Pretentiousness Points the Host gains.

Pretentious Little Prince... just opened the first door to the Pretentious Realm? Does that mean I was just messing around before? And the System’s final judgment on pretentiousness, what the heck is that?

Chu Hao asked, ”System, come out and explain.”

System: ”This means that for every act of pretentiousness by the Host, additional Pretentiousness Points can be gained. The amount is determined by the System’s evaluation.”

Chu Hao was excited. Could it really be this good?

Chu Hao had more questions. ”System,” he asked, ”what is the theme for Pretentious Little Prince?”

He was gradually getting a clearer understanding of the Ghost-catching Pretentious System; each realm had a theme. The theme for Pretentious Expert, for instance, was to be pretentious to anyone he met, no matter who it was.

System: ”The Host needs to figure this out on their own.”

Chu Hao’s mouth twitched. ”Can you give me a hint?”

System: ”It’s not difficult. This System can give the Host some hints. For example, when you encountered the Little Prison Warden earlier, what exactly did you say during your act of pretentiousness that made your opponent hesitate and become wary?”

Chu Hao recalled that he had bragged earlier to bolster his own courage, but he was actually bluffing Sword Star Lord.

After thinking for a while, Chu Hao’s head started to ache. He said, ”Just tell me directly. We’re on such good terms, aren’t we?”

The System huffed. ”The theme for Pretentious Little Prince is to master psychological pretentiousness. The Host can take their time thinking about it.”

Psychological pretentiousness? That kind of pretentiousness is a bit too advanced.

Chu Hao couldn’t help asking, ”System, tell me honestly, how many more levels are there?”

System: ”The Host has no right to know.”

Oh well, I’ll just go with the flow. The gains this time were still huge. He rubbed his hands together and opened the first Diamond Treasure Chest.

”Open treasure chest.”

”DING... The Host has obtained a 30% off discount card.”

A 30% off discount card... That’s not bad at all.

”Open treasure chest.”

”DING... The Host has obtained a truckload of boy’s urine.”

What the hell! A truckload of boy’s urine? How unlucky can I get?!

Chu Hao’s expression darkened with frustration. A Diamond Treasure Chest wasted—what a true pity.

Chu Hao clasped his hands in a prayerful gesture and said, ”May the heavens bless me! Open the last Diamond Treasure Chest.”

”DING... Host has obtained the Beginners Foundation Building Manual.”

A smile spread across Chu Hao’s face. Now that’s more like it! A Beginners Foundation Building Manual cost ten thousand Pretentiousness Points, and upgrading to Intermediate Foundation Building required three times that amount, totaling thirty thousand Pretentiousness Points.

”Not bad,” Chu Hao said, satisfied.

Chu Hao immediately said, ”Study the Foundation Building Scripture.”

System notification: To study the Foundation Building Scripture, the following medicinal ingredients are needed. Please collect the ingredients; the method has been transmitted to the Host’s mind.

Chu Hao was clearly startled. So, the Foundation Building Scripture isn’t something I can learn just like that? It also requires concocting medicine!

A new piece of information appeared in his mind: the method to concoct the medicine. It required a brewing vat, dozens of herbs, water, and simmering over a fire for three days and three nights. The person then had to enter the medicinal vat to learn the Beginners Foundation Building Manual.

Chu Hao said helplessly, ”Why does it have to be so troublesome?”

He checked the dozens of herbs. He only recognized four or five: three-hundred-year-old wild ginseng, three-hundred-year-old wild Reishi mushroom, two taels of angelica, one jin of agarwood, one jin of Cordyceps...

Chu Hao felt dizzy looking at the list. The first few seemed easy to find, but there were many he had never even heard of, like Nebula Grass, Impermanence Fruit, and Purple Scorpion Root. What the heck is all this stuff?!

Chu Hao cursed, ”System, how the hell am I supposed to find these?”

System: ”Idiotic Host, I recommend you purchase the Beginners Pharmacist Book, which requires 8,000 Pretentiousness Points.”

Chu Hao swore out loud. ”Damn it! Aren’t you the Ghost-catching System? Since when did you start carrying the Beginners Pharmacist Book too?”

System: ”Idiotic Host, all things possess a spirit. Concocted medicine can also be used for catching ghosts. You’re so clueless.”

Chu Hao was speechless. I really have no choice but to buy it. Otherwise, how can I improve my strength? I have no idea what these medicines even are!

”Purchase the Beginners Pharmacist Book.”

”DING... Host has purchased the Beginners Pharmacist Book for 8,000 Pretentiousness Points. Remaining Pretentiousness Points: 19,800.”

Item: Beginners Pharmacist Book (Treasure Book)

Rarity: ★★★

Ability: Studying this grants the knowledge of a beginner pharmacist.

”Study.”

”DING... Host is studying the Beginners Pharmacist Book.”

Suddenly, Chu Hao’s mind was flooded with the knowledge of a beginner pharmacist; countless pieces of medicinal information surfaced. This included mixtures lethal to Ghosts and Ghost Demons, concoctions to deal with Snake Demons, preparations to handle fox spirits, and innumerable more.

Furthermore, there was knowledge on administering medicine via acupuncture, treating Exorcism-related ailments, and so much more; it was overwhelming.

”I’ve become a divine healer in one second, huh!” Chu Hao’s eyes lit up.

Most of the knowledge pertained to Exorcism-related conditions. However, with his current understanding of medicine, he could easily handle common ailments. For example, the swelling in his thigh could likely be cured by tomorrow with acupuncture and medicinal application.

Chu Hao immediately called Wang Qing and asked him to bring a set of needles.

While Wang Qing watched, dumbfounded, Chu Hao stuck many needles into his own thigh. Half an hour later, when he removed them, his leg didn’t feel as swollen.

He didn’t immediately go out to find the medicinal ingredients required for Foundation Building. He was worn out from the day’s events, especially not being used to the food in the Underworld, so he slept comfortably in the villa.

「...」

He slept soundly until the next day.

Chu Hao was woken by his phone. It had run out of battery the previous night, so he had left it charging.

When he picked it up, the caller was Li Yin, who said excitedly, ”You finally have reception! Quickly check your score to see if you passed the exam.”

Chu Hao wasn’t in a hurry. With my abilities, there’s no doubt I’ll pass. He asked, ”Did you make it?”

”WAHAHAHA! I passed! Come on out, I’ll treat you to a meal.”

After Li Yin told him the address and they hung up, Chu Hao picked up his phone to check his scores. He saw a score of 666. A lucky number! That’s definitely enough to get into the Film Academy.
