Ghost Catching System

Chu Hao could hardly contain his excitement. He looked at the old man, Little Spirit, and the other ghosts, saying, ”Are there any other powers around here?”

The old man hastily replied, ”There is one. They’re involved in trafficking incense offerings. These people are despicable, setting the price-performance ratio incredibly high, which makes our lives extremely difficult. Sir, if you could take them down, you would surely be able to control the nearby streets.”

Deal with trafficking incense offerings! Chu Hao frowned. For him, the great King of Show-offs, to be dealing with selling incense offerings would be too embarrassing if word got out. He waved his hands and said, ”I, the great King Chubi, don’t have time to deal with these small gangs. Are there any major powers around here?”

Little Spirit said, ”Sir, there’s a gambling den nearby run by the Funeral Love Clan. Their influence in Area 17 is moderate. Perhaps we should start with them.”

The Funeral Love Clan? Just hearing the name gave him an urge to uproot them completely.

Chu Hao turned to Little Spirit and said, ”This is the place. Lead the way.”

Excited, Little Spirit led the way. Though his face was pale, it now showed a hint of unhealthy redness. A group of sturdy ghosts followed behind, filled with anticipation, eager to see how Chu Hao would deal with the Funeral Love Clan.

Since Chu Hao wasn’t very familiar with the Underworld, he decided to ask Little Spirit first.

”Can we kill ghosts?” Chu Hao asked.

Little Spirit was startled. This new master of his was truly fierce, talking about killing right off the bat. He said, ”Try not to attract the attention of the Ghost Officiants. Competition among the Fengdu gangs is fierce. It’s not a big deal if one or two die, but if the Ghost Officiants notice, it could become very troublesome.”

The rules were similar to those in the Yang Realm. These Ghost Officiants were like the police.

Chu Hao found it somewhat odd and asked, ”If forming gangs is illegal, how are you all allowed into Fengdu? Don’t the penal Ghost Officiants care about you guys?”

These questions Chu Hao asked were basic common sense, and Little Spirit was puzzled but dared not inquire further.

”Fengdu hosts many Evil Ghosts burdened with grave sins from their previous lives,” Little Spirit explained. ”By the time they report to the Underworld, they have already been punished in the Eighteen Layers of Hell. Ever since the reforms advocated by King Chu Jiang, these Evil Ghosts have had a glimmer of hope to change themselves.”

”Unless their sins are too grave, warranting punishment in the Eighteen Layers of Hell, they might also be exiled to the Land of the Vast Ancient, never to return to Fengdu.”

Chu Hao said, ”What’s the use? They drink a bowl of Granny Meng’s Soup, reincarnate, and forget everything.”

Little Spirit replied with a wry smile, ”That only happens after drinking Granny Meng’s Soup. Besides, reincarnating through the Underworld isn’t easy.”

”This is because it’s difficult to pass through the Human Path of the Six Reincarnation Paths to reincarnate. After death, souls generally return to the Underworld in the same Soul State they possessed just before dying. If a soul reincarnates into the animal path, upon returning to the Underworld after that life, it will resemble an animal. This Soul State is the lowest grade. Survival in the Underworld is difficult for such souls, and they face the constant possibility of complete annihilation. Therefore, souls consider reincarnation very carefully.”

This meant that when a reincarnated soul returned to the Underworld, its appearance was fixed to what it was in its previous life. For instance, if you were human in one life, you would return to the Underworld as a human-shaped soul. If you were an ant, upon returning to the Underworld, you would still be an ant. This rule was very much in the Underworld’s style. Of course, the choice ultimately lay with the ghost. If their Merit Points were insufficient, they could only reincarnate into the animal realm.

Little Spirit led the way through remote alleys, eventually arriving at a moderately well-off area. Here stood an ancient tower adorned with lanterns, giving off an antique, visual charm. From afar, Chu Hao saw a large sign with the character for ’Gambling’ on the ancient tower.

Chu Hao was quite surprised. This gambling den is operating so openly! If this were in the Huaxia Country of the Yang Realm, wouldn’t it be shut down in minutes? However, the Underworld had its own ways; after all, this wasn’t the Yang Realm.

At the ancient tower gambling den, many ghosts were coming and going. Some were happy, obviously having won money, while others wore furrowed brows, looking as if their parents had just died. Faces that were already miserable looked even more so.

Outside the casino stood several young ghosts, each with an outlandish appearance. Why say so? Well, they were ghosts, to begin with, but their attire and appearance were exceptionally abnormal, even more extreme than the Shamate style of the Yang Realm. Each had hair spiked like a hedgehog, adorned with earrings and wallet chains, and they loitered about with a delinquent air. Even more outrageously, these individuals had the character for ’Love’ tattooed on their chests, eyes, arms, and even their faces.

Chu Hao was utterly speechless. So these are the members of the Funeral Love Clan. They certainly live up to their name.

”Isn’t that the kid from South Alley? And that counterfeiter, Old Man Jia?” a young Funeral Love Clan member smirked upon seeing Little Spirit and Old Man Jia. The Funeral Love Clan usually looked down on Little Spirit and his group. They considered them bottom-tier ghosts in Fengdu, small factions that could be wiped out with ease.

A young Gui Qing, with the character for ’Love’ tattooed on the left side of his face, asked, ”Old Man Jia, are you here to pay back your debts?”

Old Man Jia enjoyed gambling and had lost a considerable amount of money here. Hearing the young ghost’s words, he was somewhat hesitant to respond.

Little Spirit snorted coldly. ”We’re not here to gamble.”

The young ghost eyed him sideways. ”Then what are you here for, kid?”

Chu Hao spoke up, his voice filled with haughty confidence, ”Tell your boss to come out. This Ghost God wishes to see him.”

The young ghost shot Chu Hao a sideways glance, his face etched with disbelief. ”Are you trying to be funny, kid? Think carefully before you speak. Do you even know where you are?”

Chu Hao scoffed. I’ve seen plenty of situations like this. With my real power, Brother Hao, afraid of a few Shamate ghosts? Hardly!

”You’re just a bunch of small fry,” Chu Hao declared. ”Talking to you is a waste of my breath. I’ll say it one more time: tell your boss to roll out here and pay his respects!”

Ding… Host has performed a dazzling show of pretentiousness, gaining 900 Pretentiousness Points.

Brother Hao was just that flamboyant. He didn’t have much time to spend in the Yin Realm; the sooner he finished his business, the sooner he could return.

The faces of the Funeral Love Clan members turned cold as they surrounded Chu Hao, their gazes predatory.

”How dare they cause trouble here! Break their legs!” one of them snarled.

Little Spirit and Old Man Jia grew extremely nervous. The stout ghosts with them braced for a fight, now somewhat regretting their decision to come. Chu Hao is being too arrogant! Even a Ghost Cultivator shouldn’t just barge in like this!

Just as the young Funeral Love Clan members made their move—lo and behold!—Chu Hao pulled out his Ghost-whipping Whip and lashed out.

SMACK! SMACK!

The whip struck the faces of several young Funeral Love Clan members. Intense pain, emanating from the very depths of their souls, caused them to scream and howl miserably—a sound akin to ghosts wailing and wolves crying.

All the ghosts were stunned. Even those outside merely watching the commotion were taken aback.

It was just one strike from a whip, how could it hurt so much?

This was the fearsome power of the Ghost-whipping Whip. It didn’t just strike the surface; its power penetrated deep into the soul, inflicting unbearable agony.

Chu Hao didn’t spare them another glance and strode into the gambling house.

Excited, Little Spirit hurried after Chu Hao.

The gambling house bustled with activity, offering all sorts of betting games: poker, dice, electronic game machines. Everything one would expect in a casino was available here.
