Ghost Catching System

Chu Hao took out his Ghost-whipping Whip. Staring at the Ghost Cultivator, he asked, ”You really don’t have any?”

The Ghost Cultivator broke out in a cold sweat and said, ”I... I know of a place, but it requires Merit Points for a transaction. Without Merit Points, it’s useless. The way to trade Merit Points is by using a Merit Record.”

The Ghost Cultivator swallowed, truly hoping this guy would calm down and take him to get a new Merit Record.

Chu Hao curled his lips and asked, ”Does it have to be a transaction with Merit Points? Won’t other things work?”

The Ghost Cultivator fell silent again and said, ”Unless you have something valuable. However, items from the Underworld are strictly controlled, and only payment with Merit Points will allow you to acquire them.”

Chu Hao’s eyes lit up. He grinned, revealing his gleaming white teeth, and said, ”How about this then?”

He took out some Taisui Meat, which had a deadly effect on ghosts.

Indeed, the Ghost Cultivator was completely stunned. He swallowed hard, asking, ”Is... is this Taisui Meat?”

Chu Hao put away the Taisui Meat, afraid its immense power would attract the attention of nearby ghosts, and said, ”You have some insight.”

The Ghost Cultivator was incredibly excited. ”I’ll take you to get the Merit Record, and you give me a piece of Taisui Meat!”

He was deeply shocked. What kind of person was this living being to possess such high-quality Taisui Meat? The large piece he had was absolutely priceless!

Chu Hao stroked his chin and said, ”Get this done, and your share of Taisui Meat is guaranteed.”

Chu Hao could actually leave the Netherworld now, since, with the Underworld Altar, his Pretentiousness Points were more than enough to purchase the Yang Realm Altar.

However, Chu Hao was very curious about Fengdu.

Besides, he wasn’t in a hurry to go back. Maybe he could find a way to break through the Pretentious Expert level here. If he could break through to become the Pretentious Little Prince, he could purchase the Foundation Building Scripture. Would he still need to fear any Ghost King then?

Speaking of which, the ghost demons he had encountered recently, like the Heavenly Bone Woman or the Ghost Mother, weren’t unbeatable. The issue wasn’t a lack of solutions, but rather his inability to break through the Pretentious Expert realm.

「...」

The Ghost Cultivator led the way. Chu Hao weaved through streets and alleys until they arrived at an old building in a small alley where some food was sold.

What do ghosts eat?

Of course, they ate the Underworld’s specialty product—incense!

This special incense from the Underworld allowed ghosts to replenish their soul power, preventing them from feeling hungry.

The Ghost Cultivator said, ”This is the place. Just go in and ask for incense. He will ask you what incense you want to buy. Say Big Head Incense—that’s the code word.”

So, there was such a clandestine operation!

Chu Hao was a bit nervous and asked, ”There won’t be any Ghost Kings inside, right?”

The Ghost Cultivator answered, ”Absolutely not. A Ghost King is a major figure in Fengdu; he wouldn’t come to a place like this to deal with counterfeit stuff.”

Since there were no Ghost Kings, what was there for him to fear?

He straightened his back and strode inside.

Inside the shop sat a young ghost with paper-white skin. This was a normal complexion, as virtually every ghost in the Underworld had very pale skin.

The young ghost was looking down at his smartphone.

Yes, it was an Underworld smartphone, and a brand Chu Hao recognized! An Apple phone, looking even more high-end than the Apple X released a while back.

Chu Hao approached him and saw that the kid was engrossed in his phone. Leaning in, he discovered that the guy was playing King of Glory—not the Yang Realm version, but the Underworld edition of King of Glory.

Characters like Yan Luo King, Ksitigarbha, and many other renowned figures were in it. Chu Hao was speechless. It was too similar to the Yang Realm’s version!

Chu Hao cleared his throat, which startled the kid. Seeing it was Chu Hao, he frowned and asked, ”What do you want?”

”I’m here to buy incense,” Chu Hao said.

”What incense are you buying?” the young ghost asked, a little sharply.

Chu Hao said, ”Big Head Incense.”

The young Xiao Gui turned off his smartphone and pocketed it. He scanned the surroundings and asked, ”Just you?”

”That’s right.”

”Come on in.”

Following the young Xiao Gui to the back of the shop, Chu Hao passed through a narrow corridor. This feels like walking into a shady barbershop... AHEM. I’m overthinking things.

Finally, the path ahead opened up into a courtyard, where a burly ghost leaned against a tree, glaring at Chu Hao with a fierce look on his face.

Chu Hao appraised him and found the ghost’s combat power was less than 2,000. Just a mere ghost, not even at the level of a Mysterious Evil Ghost.

Seeing the burly ghost, the young Xiao Gui hurriedly forced a smile and said, ”Brother Biao, we have a customer.”

The burly ghost, Brother Biao, nodded. Toying with a dagger in his hand, he asked, ”Kid, what do you want?”

”I want to get a Merit Record,” Chu Hao said.

Brother Biao was taken aback. He sized Chu Hao up and said, ”A Merit Record isn’t cheap. Got your Merit Points ready?”

Chu Hao responded indifferently, ”I don’t have Merit Points.”

Brother Biao grew angry. Staring at Chu Hao, he said, ”Are you messing with me? Do you know who I am? Believe it or not, Brother Biao can tear you into pieces in minutes!”

Then, a tantalizing fragrance filled the air, causing both the burly ghost and the young Xiao Gui to freeze. The scent was so exquisite it made their stomachs churn, as if roaring and howling, desperately wanting to lose control and pounce on the source for a satisfying feast.

Chu Hao put away the Taisui Meat and said, ”I may not have Merit Points, but what about this piece of Taisui Meat?”

Brother Biao snapped back to his senses, realizing he was drooling. He wiped his mouth, then slapped the young Xiao Gui on the head. ”Are you stupid? Get our guest something to drink!”

The young Xiao Gui nodded repeatedly, the sight of the Taisui Meat nearly making him lose all reason.

Brother Biao quickly said, ”Of course, that works! How much Taisui Meat do you have?”

”Just tell me how much Taisui Meat it takes to get a Merit Record,” Chu Hao said flatly.

”I need to ask the boss. Give me a moment,” Brother Biao said.

Brother Biao ran inside.

The young Xiao Gui brought some incense. After lighting it, it miraculously transformed into a cup of tea! Chu Hao, intrigued, took the cup and had a sip. TSK, TSK... This tastes pretty good.

Chu Hao inquired, ”That smartphone of yours is pretty nice!”

The young Xiao Gui bragged, ”This is the latest model from Steve Jobs! Cost me 3 Merit Points.”

Steve Jobs! Did he really come to the Underworld to develop products after he died? Chu Hao couldn’t help but be impressed. Truly, talent shines anywhere.

After a while, several figures emerged from the building. Leading them was a short, hunched-over old man, followed by a posse of burly ghosts, exuding the aura of a powerful boss.

The old man looked at Chu Hao and asked, ”Young man, do you wish to use Taisui Meat to buy a Merit Record?”

Chu Hao nodded.

The old man frowned. ”Young man, let me ask you one question: what do you need a Merit Record for?”

Chu Hao met the old man’s gaze and said lightly, ”Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t.”

”This man is a Ghost Officiant! Seize him!” the old man squinted and ordered.

Ghost Officiants in the Underworld are akin to police officers. There are many types: Soul Hooking Ghost Messengers who venture out to collect souls, those who manage Fengdu, administrative Ghost Officiants, Ghost Officiants who enforce the punishments of the Eighteen Levels of Hell, and various others.

Chu Hao was baffled. These Fengdu ghosts were audacious, daring to attack even a Ghost Officiant!

A burly ghost charged at him. Chu Hao simply lifted his leg and kicked the attacker away. The sheer force sent the burly ghost crashing into the building, accompanied by a series of CRASHES and BANGS.
