Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1099: 1098 I only said it’s like, I didn’t say it’s Wen Ran

Gu Kai didn’t speak, and his silence made the atmosphere in the carriage oppressively tense.

The car stopped outside Bai Yiyi’s residence. Bai Yiyi thanked him and was about to open the car door when Gu Kai said calmly, “Has Li En sought you out recently?”

“Huh?”

Bai Yiyi turned her head, looking at him blankly.

At a time like this, he was concerned about whether Li En had contacted her?

Shouldn’t he be focused entirely on rescuing Momo? Bai Yiyi blinked, and under Gu Kai’s sharp gaze, she furrowed her brows. “Gu Kai, you don’t suspect that Elder Brother Li took Momo, do you?”

Perhaps he was kindly driving her home for that.

Gu Kai didn’t deny it and spoke indifferently, “He hates me, that’s an undisputed fact, and moreover, he used to have a good relationship with your father. Back then, your father had someone take Ranran away to threaten my mother not to call the police…”

Bai Yiyi’s face went pale. She looked at Gu Kai angrily and said coldly, “Gu Kai, just because my father hurt Ranran years ago, you can’t assume Elder Brother Li took Momo. He does hate you, but I believe he wouldn’t use such despicable methods. He despises you, so if he were to target anyone, it should be you.”

“I didn’t say it was definitely him.”

Gu Kai narrowed his eyes and locked his gaze on Bai Yiyi, his tone angrily firm. “But I can’t rule out the possibility. The caller warned Ranran not to call the police, or else they would kill Momo. Clearly, it’s not about money. If not for money, it must be out of vengeance, so I suspect everyone who has a grudge against both the Gu Family and the Mo Family.”

That afternoon, in the dean’s office, they decided to conduct a broad investigation.

Besides the police conducting a covert investigation, they couldn’t just sit around and wait for news.

“What if the kidnapper is a human trafficker who doesn’t dare extort money from you and simply wants to sell Momo?”

The words left Bai Yiyi’s mouth, even though she didn’t believe them herself.

Gu Kai scoffed with sarcasm. “Bai Yiyi, if you were a trafficker, would you steal a child who is easy to raise, or would you idiotically steal a newborn who is just a few days old and, moreover, premature?”

“It still couldn’t be Elder Brother Li.”

Bai Yiyi knew her argument was weak but defiantly glared back at Gu Kai.

“It better be as you say, now get out!”

Gu Kai contained his rage, his words hissing through clenched teeth.

Bai Yiyi opened the car door, got out, and slammed the door shut with force.

She hadn’t taken a step when the car next to her revved the engine, and the Maybach sped away.

Watching the direction in which Gu Kai’s car disappeared, Bai Yiyi’s hands hanging by her sides slowly clenched into fists.

Recalling what Gu Kai had just said, Bai Yiyi couldn’t help but pull out her phone and dial Li En’s number.

A month ago, after Li En had fought with Gu Kai in the hospital, he had only called her once. Recently, he seemed very busy, caught up with his experiments. She heard their loan had been approved, still facilitated by Li Yaqing’s father, Li Yunchang.

In the twilight, Bai Yiyi’s slender figure headed towards the park near the neighborhood. The summer breeze brushed her cheeks, carrying a faint warmth, and she felt slightly irritated.

The phone rang several times before Li En’s voice finally came, “Hello.”

“Elder Brother Li, it’s me.”

Bai Yiyi pursed her lips and spoke softly.

“Oh, Yiyi, is something the matter?” Li En sounded busy, his tone slightly different from usual.

Bai Yiyi’s eyebrows knit together as she spoke lightly, “Nothing important, just that we haven’t been in touch for a while. I thought I’d give you a call. If you’re busy, I won’t disturb your work.”

“Yiyi, I’m on a business trip out of town. I’ll call you back later.”

Li En had just finished speaking when he hung up the phone.

Bai Yiyi thought she heard a car horn as the call disconnected.

She was startled and checked her phone only to find the call had ended, uncertain if the sound came from her phone or a passing car on the street.

When she got home, Bai Yuqin had already prepared dinner and was playing with Tongtong.

“Yiyi, why are you so late today? If you hadn’t come back soon, I was about to call you.”

As soon as Tongtong saw Bai Yiyi return, she immediately smiled broadly, reached out her arms for a hug, and babbled incoherently.

Bai Yiyi walked over, picked up her daughter, and, as usual, kissed her cheek first. Watching her pure and joyful smile, her heart overflowed with happiness.

However, thinking about Momo who had gone missing that afternoon froze the smile on Bai Yiyi’s face again.

“Yiyi, Tongtong, come eat.”

Bai Yuqin had set the table and called Bai Yiyi and Tongtong to dinner.

“Let’s go eat, Tongtong.”

Bai Yiyi carried Tongtong to the table, sat down, scooped some egg custard with a spoon, blew on it to cool it down, and then fed it to Tongtong.

“Mom, do you know what Elder Brother Li has been busy with these days?”

Bai Yiyi asked nonchalantly while feeding Tongtong the egg custard.

“Little Li is busy with his experiments. The last time he came to see me and Tongtong, he said their loan came through, and he’d be very busy. I’ve already told you, but you seemed uninterested before. Why are you suddenly asking now?”

Bai Yuqin looked at her daughter amusedly.

Bai Yiyi just smiled slightly, “I was just asking out of curiosity. I called him earlier, and he just said a few words then hung up on me.”

“By the way, two weeks ago, I saw him having dinner with a pretty girl.”

“He has a girlfriend?”

Bai Yiyi looked curiously at Bai Yuqin.

“Probably not. That girl had a figure not much different from yours, but her side profile was somewhat similar to Wen Ran. At the time I only thought she looked familiar but couldn’t figure out who she resembled. Now that you ask, it suddenly came to me.”

“Wen Ran?”

Bai Yiyi laughed, “Two weeks ago, Wen Ran was heavily pregnant. How could she have a figure similar to mine?”

Because she wasn’t interested in Li En’s matters, Bai Yuqin had refrained from mentioning him in front of her lately. This was the only time she mentioned it since she was asked.

“I just said she looked similar, not that it was Wen Ran. I was holding Tongtong, and Little Li didn’t see us, so I didn’t stop.”

“Oh.”

Bai Yiyi frowned, lost in thought for a moment. She heard Bai Yuqin ask, “Yiyi, is something bothering you? Why are you suddenly asking about Little Li?”

“I do have something to tell you, but you have to promise not to get angry after hearing it.”

Bai Yiyi grinned mischievously, giving her mom a pleading look. Bai Yuqin stared at her disapprovingly and said, “Go on.”

“Mom, I’m thinking of giving Tongtong her father’s last name.”

“Tongtong’s father? You’ve always been reluctant to talk about him before, why the sudden change? Could it be that your reluctance to accept Little Li is because of Tongtong’s father? Who is that man exactly?”
