Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1060: 1059 Suspect

Mo Xiuchen held Wen Ran’s hand and walked to sit down in front of the sofa.

Wen Jin took a seat on another sofa, leaning his tall figure into it, slightly lifting his brows, an expression of casual laziness as he looked at Gu Kai.

The call was from Fang Zhiwei, asking Gu Kai if he was free that evening to go watch a movie.

Fang Zhiwei had always been the initiator in her interactions with Gu Kai, playing the role of the perfect girlfriend. Gu Kai was always polite to Fang Zhiwei, like a courteous gentleman,

gently considerate, but it always felt as if there was a layer of distance between them—their gazes lacked the loving adoration typical of couples deeply in love.

Gu Kai hadn’t finished his call when Luo Haofeng also crowded into the office, Wen Jin poured him a glass of water, which Luo Haofeng drank in one gulp, placing the glass back on the coffee table.

“Ranran, are you here for a prenatal checkup?”

Luo Haofeng asked Wen Ran in a low voice.

Wen Ran nodded, “You can be discharged now, right?”

He had been living here for two months already; although not completely recovered, he was able to leave the hospital and recover at home.

Mentioning this topic, Luo Haofeng felt unsettled, “Why do you say that too? My mother also said she’d come this weekend to take me home to City C, where I could work from home.”

“Working from home, you might as well stay and work from the hospital. If you go back now, you can’t even beat Qi Meiling’s brother,” Mo Xiuchen remarked with a casual glance at Luo Haofeng.

Last time, Qi Meiling’s brother had come to the hospital, but Gu Kai had security kick him out.

“It’s rare that my mother isn’t forcing me to be with Qi Meiling anymore. I think it’s better to go back.”

Qi Meiling becoming a vegetative state was not his intention, and Luo Haofeng still felt a bit guilty about it. He had been living in Kangning Hospital for two months now, and Qi Meiling was still in a deep sleep, unawakened.

He should go back to see.

“Aren’t you going to wait a bit longer?”

Mo Xiuchen’s brows slightly furrowed, his tone very light.

“No more waiting, this is my issue, I’ve got to deal with it myself.”

Luo Haofeng paused, then added, “This weekend, when my mother comes to G City, I’ll go back with her.”

Gu Kai hung up the call, and Luo Haofeng teased him, “Ah Kai, Fang Zhiwei asked you out to the movies again? You and Fang Zhiwei really are a unique couple. Normally in a relationship, it’s the man who takes the initiative, but in your case, it’s the woman.”

“If you don’t speak, no one will think you’re a mute,” Gu Kai shot him a look, his handsome brows slightly knitted.

Wen Ran saw Luo Haofeng shrug, a look of innocence on his face, and couldn’t help laughing softly. She withdrew her hand from Mo Xiuchen’s grasp and said,

“Xiuchen, I’m going to the restroom.”

“Do you want me to accompany you?”

Mo Xiuchen asked considerately, already preparing to stand up with Wen Ran.

Wen Ran shook her head, “No need, I can go alone. You can’t follow me in anyway.”

“Alright, then be careful.”

Mo Xiuchen watched Wen Ran leave the office, and her footsteps faded before he returned his gaze to Gu Kai:

“Are you rejecting Fang Zhiwei’s invitation because of Bai Yiyi?”

Wen Ran had left, and in the office, it was just the four of them, men. Gu Kai hesitated for a few seconds, and then said morosely, “Bai Yiyi and I, there was one time, but it was an accident.”

“God, Ah Kai, you really had a relationship with Bai Yiyi, could it be that her daughter is yours?”

Luo Haofeng was the first to shout it out.

Wen Jin and Mo Xiuchen simultaneously gave Luo Haofeng a disdainful look, finding his reaction overly dramatic—they had already guessed this kind of answer in their hearts.

“Xiuchen, do you still remember when Ranran wanted to break up with you last year, and you faked your death in a car accident?”

Mo Xiuchen’s eyes flashed, “Of course I remember. Wasn’t that when you went to the countryside for medical volunteering? How did you end up getting involved with Bai Yiyi?”

Out of all the people he could have met, it had to be Fu Jingyi’s daughter.

And he had slept with her.

Gu Kai looked up, rubbing his forehead with a heavy tone, “That night, I had a bit too much to drink, Bai Yiyi was drugged by someone, and she happened to run into me; that’s how it happened.”

He didn’t remember much about that night.

It might have been because of the alcohol, but he failed to resist Bai Yiyi’s seduction and slept with her. The next morning, she even insulted him, marking the greatest humiliation of his nearly thirty years of life.

“So, could Bai Yiyi’s daughter be your child?”

Mo Xiuchen’s eyes narrowed slightly, which was not far off from the results he had uncovered before.

“No, I asked her about it before, she personally denied it, saying that she had slept with other men as well,” Gu Kai said, his voice inexplicably heavy.

He couldn’t accept that a woman who took his ‘first night’ has been involved with countless other men. It was a humiliation to him.

“As far as I know, Bai Yiyi doesn’t have a boyfriend. The person Li En around her is just unrequitedly in love,” Mo Xiuchen said nonchalantly.

“Ah Kai, maybe Bai Yiyi is lying to you. I also think she doesn’t seem like that kind of flirtatious woman,” Wen Jin said thoughtfully, while Luo Haofeng chuckled, “Maybe Bai Yiyi had your child behind your back and is afraid to admit it fearing you might take the child away.”

“She’s right at the hospital now, it’s simple to find out whether Bai Yiyi’s daughter is yours or not.”

Mo Xiuchen gave Gu Kai a faint look, then stood up, left the office, and went to pick up Wen Ran.

**

That evening, before Gu Kai left work, he made another trip to the ophthalmology ward.

The door to the ward was closed, he didn’t knock but just pushed it open.

Inside the ward, Bai Yiyi, who was breastfeeding, heard the door open, looked up in shock, and her fair face immediately flushed red at the sight of Gu Kai. Instinctively, she took Tongtong from her arms and pulled her clothes to cover up.

“Why didn’t you knock before coming in?”

Gu Kai’s gaze swept over her hurriedly covered chest, actually, he hadn’t seen clearly just now. Initially, he felt a bit awkward, but after being questioned by Bai Yiyi, that bit of embarrassment faded, and he retorted unhappily, “It’s your own fault for not locking the door before breastfeeding, why is it my fault?”

“What, what are you doing here?”

Bai Yiyi wanted to curse him, but remembering she was on his turf, she held herself back.

Tongtong, who was already drowsy, did not cry when the food was taken out of her mouth but directly fell asleep with a snore.

Gu Kai walked boldly to the front of the hospital bed, looked down at Tongtong in Bai Yiyi’s arms, and said nothing.

Seeing him staring at Tongtong, Bai Yiyi couldn’t help but feel a wave of unease and frowning she said, “If you have nothing else, I need to go to sleep.”

“Are you here to take care of Tongtong or to sleep in the hospital?” Gu Kai asked without lifting his head.

Bai Yiyi was taken aback by his retort, opened her mouth but couldn’t speak for a long time.

Only her hands, holding Tongtong, tightened slightly, feeling an unsettling sense that this man might be here to take her child away…
