Chapter 2597: Chapter 2598: Beating the Imperial Consort in Anger

Ning Yu did not want Diao Bin to feel guilty and blame herself, but Diao Bin glared at him and said, ”I was conscious at the time, but I couldn’t control my body, I knew everything!”

”I’m sorry!” Diao Bin began to cry and then said to Bai Ruozhu, ”Ruozhu, thank you for saving Ning Yu.”

Bai Ruozhu patted her shoulder, ”You two talk for a while, I’ll go check on the medicine for you.”

After speaking, she gave Yizi a look, and the two of them retreated.

Ning Yu and Diao Bin had been apart for some time and surely had a lot to say.

”You bastard, I told you not to take the medicine he gave, why didn’t you listen? Did he really dare to kill me?” Diao Bin said angrily.

Ning Yu just laughed foolishly, ”I’m fine now, don’t be upset. We’ll be home soon, and the Emperor will be very pleased to see you.”

”I don’t want to go back to the Imperial Palace.” Diao Bin was silent for a moment, then suddenly said, her expression very serious, not just casually speaking.

”You... why bother?” Ning Yu sighed.

”We’ve been through so many difficulties and dangers and finally came together. Returning to the Palace means losing freedom. You’re the National Master, I’m a princess, how can we be together?” Diao Bin said, biting her lip, ”I’ll consider myself unworthy to my brother the Emperor, but he still has Concubine Le by his side.”

Ning Yu thought for a moment and did not oppose anymore. He didn’t care about being the National Master; the Astrology Tower’s teachings never blamed him if he didn’t continue, and his master always advised him to follow his heart and not to force himself.

After a while, Bai Ruozhu brought in the medicine soup and let the two of them drink separately.

Diao Bin used to be a pampered princess who disliked the bitterness of medicine and needed candied fruits as accompaniment, but now she drank the bowl of medicine in one gulp without even furrowing her brow. She’s truly been through a lot; one can imagine how much suffering she’s endured.

”Oh, I haven’t told you yet, the Empress Dowager is still alive.” Bai Ruozhu remembered and knew Ning Yu and Diao Bin surely didn’t know this.

Diao Bin jumped up and tightly grabbed Bai Ruozhu’s hand, asking, ”Ruozhu, are you telling the truth? Not just trying to comfort me?”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but smile, ”It’s true. She and Mr. Yao came looking for me, and they’ve been searching for you. Mr. Yao used up all his cultivation base to save the Empress Dowager, and now they’re not returning to the Palace, but are living freely having opened a restaurant in the south.”

”That’s wonderful! My mother is still alive!” Diao Bin said, looking at Ning Yu, ”See, my mother doesn’t want to return to the Palace, we shouldn’t either.”

Ning Yu also became happy, ”This is great news, you don’t have to be upset anymore.”

Diao Bin held Bai Ruozhu’s hand in gratitude, ”Ruozhu, thank you. If it weren’t for you all, I really wouldn’t know what to do.”

Bai Ruozhu joked with a smile, ”Don’t you also have my senior brother?”

Diao Bin’s cheeks flushed, ”I’m thanking you both on his behalf.”

After a while, Jiang Yichun returned and chatted with them for a while, but since both needed rest to recover, Bai Ruozhu advised them to rest well, and she and Jiang Yichun left.

”How is the astrology going?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”He needs to recover for two days before calculating the position of the Star Plate. He’ll join us once it’s done, and then we’ll catch the person, I think Wu Yunfeng hasn’t gone far.” Jiang Yichun replied.

”Alright.”

The next day, Dai Gu came, saying the Emperor invited Bai Ruozhu to the Palace, because rumors outside were spreading, and the Emperor’s action would publicly show his support, clearing Bai Ruozhu’s name.

”Lord Bai, His Majesty naturally trusts you.” Dai Gu said.

Bai Ruozhu thanked Dai Gu, ”And thank His Majesty for his trust. We were careless this time.”

”I heard you went out of the city to save someone, what happened exactly?” Dai Gu asked.

Bai Ruozhu sighed, ”I’ll explain it together when we see His Majesty; this matter is related to the Imperial Palace too.”

Hearing this, Dai Gu felt tense. Seeing Bai Ruozhu sigh means it must be a big issue.

Once they met the Emperor, the Emperor worriedly said, ”I’ve been helping clear your name, but alas, the people are misled by villains.”

”This matter can be temporarily ignored; we don’t care how others perceive us,” Bai Ruozhu said, ”There’s now a more urgent matter.”

She then explained about leaving the city to rescue Ning Yu and the encounter with Wu Yunfeng, and recounted Wu Yunfeng’s confession.

”Later, he suddenly escaped, proving that he wasn’t under the control of poison after all, so his confession may not be credible. But I’ve seen my senior brother controlled by Poisonous Insects firsthand, fiercely trying to kill us, making it impossible not to guard against the possibility. If Empress Yazi and Prince Wen De are controlled, regardless of whether they will harm His Majesty, even their own lives could be ended by the Poisonous Insects.” Bai Ruozhu explained further.

At this moment, footsteps echoed at the door, followed by a woman’s angry voice, ”What do you mean? Why is it just me and Wen De? Are you deliberately targeting me?”

Bai Ruozhu turned to see Empress Yazi storming over, looking like she wanted to fight, which suddenly felt trivial and bothersome to her.

If it weren’t for the Emperor’s full trust in them, she would have refrained from saying more, but now, well-intentioned efforts to alert the Emperor had provoked this woman.

”Yazi, enough! Lord Bai is only concerned and hasn’t conclusively stated you’re affected by Poisonous Insects. Do you understand precaution? How can you speak this way? Apologize to Lord Bai immediately!” The Emperor’s face hardened, clearly angered.

”What is she? Just a Zhongyuan ambassador? Would a Danliang Country concubine apologize to a mere officer?” Yazi scoffed.

Bai Ruozhu raised an eyebrow, ”Actually, it has happened before. I didn’t want to argue with you initially, but you’ve provoked me several times. Even considering His Majesty’s favor, it’s enough. Apologize to me, or I’ll deal with you; you choose.”

Yazi suddenly laughed, ”You’ll deal with me? You really have the nerve...”

Before she could finish, Bai Ruozhu suddenly appeared in front of her, and with a moment’s gesture, slapped her face with two crisp hits, ”Yes, I do have the nerve.”

”Lord Bai, Lord Bai, calm down. She is, after all, the Empress.” Dai Gu rushed to pull her away, persuading softly.

Bai Ruozhu glared sharply at Dai Gu, ”What about being Empress? I saved her son, protected him from assassins multiple times, and my husband and companions suffered injuries. Yet she turns around to insult me and repeatedly mocks me, and you ask me to endure?”

”I treated the second prince without needing your gratitude, but you can’t repay kindness with enmity so quickly and become ungrateful!”

She finished by violently shaking off Dai Gu’s hand, her aura intimidating him to stay back, leaving him no choice but to look to the Emperor for direction.

The Emperor sighed gently and eventually did not plead on behalf of Empress Yazi.
