Chapter 2551: Chapter 2552: A Lifetime as Promised

The Astrologer opened the Min Yu gourd and placed Gong Feng into the magic array on the coral cloth meant for nurturing the spirit of the Demon.

”Gong Feng!” Rouge rushed over, ”Are you okay? It’s alright now, it’s alright, we can be together again from now on.”

Rouge’s tears fell like rain as she hugged Gong Feng, laughing and crying uncontrollably.

Beside them, Shanhu suddenly covered her mouth, her eyes turning red as well.

”What’s wrong?” Qiu Zhi asked worriedly.

Shanhu’s voice was choked with emotion as she whispered, ”That Gong Feng isn’t going to make it.”

”What?” Qiu Zhi was shocked. The person they had tried so hard to save, isn’t going to make it?

”Is there any way to save him?” he asked.

Shanhu couldn’t help but shed tears. ”I sympathize with their plight, and I would do everything to help if I could, but...”

The Astrologer spoke up, ”It seems that it wasn’t someone casting a spell to attract Rouge last night, but rather Gong Feng breaking through his limitations, wanting to see her one last time. Sadly, he’s trapped in this Min Yu gourd and can’t see Rouge, nor can she see him.”

Bai Ruozhu felt sorrowful as well, suddenly noticing that Gong Feng’s eyes were shedding bloody tears. His eyes had lost focus, but his hand gently stroked Rouge’s head, saying, ”Don’t cry, learn to take care of yourself from now on, live well.”

Rouge realized Gong Feng was nearing the end, but she wouldn’t accept this fact.

”No, I won’t care for myself, it was always you caring for and protecting me. If you don’t care for me, I’ll soon be destroyed,” Rouge cried out, reaching to wipe away his bloody tears, but no matter how she wiped, it seemed she could never clean them off.

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t bear to watch any longer, and Jiang Yichun put an arm around her shoulders.

She glanced at his profile, contemplating if the Merfolk Bloodline curse couldn’t be broken, and he was to quickly leave her, what would happen to her?

Would she, like Rouge, be consumed with grief beyond bearing?

”Be good, or I’ll be resentful towards you,” Gong Feng spoke gently, not a trace of resentment in his tone.

Rouge cried like a child, weeping, ”Gong Feng, you promised to care for me for a lifetime, you can’t break your word, I won’t let you die!”

Suddenly, Rouge thrust her hands towards her eyes, face punctured with two bloody holes. No one anticipated she would do this, and by the time they reacted, it was too late to stop her.

”Since you don’t keep your promise, let me help you fulfill it,” she said with a smile, her figure entirely ethereal, finally dissipating into specks of light that entered Gong Feng’s body.

The Astrologer was also shaken, speaking after a long pause, ”Was it worth it? Even if you die, he may not choose to live.”

Rouge’s demon power remained within Gong Feng, her tender voice echoed again, ”I have burned my demon power to prolong his life and will make him forget the past. I hope you tell him nothing; I prefer he lives blissfully, forgetting me.”

Bai Ruozhu covered her mouth, unable to stifle her cries.

She understood Rouge’s final words; her death traded for Gong Feng’s life, meaning he would care for her for a lifetime because her lifetime ended today.

Finally, Rouge spoke no more, the light on Gong Feng’s body merged fully with him, becoming part of him.

Gong Feng collapsed and fell into unconsciousness.

”With this array, he will recover faster,” Shanhu, choking on her words, said tearfully, ”Let’s respect Rouge’s decision and tell Gong Feng nothing.”

Everyone nodded silently, their hearts weighed with sorrow, the Astrologer stood silent for a long time, eyes turning red.

”This Min Yu gourd can refine demons, it’s inappropriate for any Yin Yang Master to possess. Let’s just destroy it,” he said, throwing the gourd on the ground and igniting a talisman against it.

Unexpectedly, the Min Yu gourd repelled the talisman without a scratch.

The Astrologer frowned, drawing his sword to strike at it, yet, with a clang, the gourd remained unscathed.

”It seems impossible to destroy. I’m no practitioner of Yin Yang arts, nor am I interested in refining demons. Let me handle this instead,” Bai Ruozhu said, wiping away tears.

”Very well, I trust your character,” the Astrologer said, picking up the Min Yu gourd and handing it to Bai Ruozhu.

Everyone, exhausted from the night and morning, along with the heavy atmosphere, soon dispersed to rest.

The Astrologer silently returned to his residence to continue feigning illness, while Jiang Yichun returned to coax Bai Ruozhu a little.

She fell asleep quickly due to fatigue.

Unexpectedly, she dreamed of Rouge again, considering Rouge was a dream-entrancing demon, it wasn’t surprising.

”Madam, I am leaving this time and will not return. I’ve come to bid farewell and thank you for your help; otherwise, I couldn’t have saved Gong Feng, only helplessly watched him controlled by others, doing things against his will.”

Bai Ruozhu reached out but couldn’t touch Rouge, and she cried out, ”Rouge, why are you so foolish? You died, isn’t Gong Feng also pitiable?”

Rouge smiled serenely, ”If he forgets me, he won’t be troubled. Please keep this a secret, let him live happily.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded with difficulty, knowing this way she could also forget the past, living painlessly, but instead opted to sacrifice herself so Gong Feng could continue living.

This true feeling moved Bai Ruozhu, filling her with admiration for Rouge.

”Will you be reincarnated?” she asked.

”I don’t know if demons can reincarnate, and even if I do, I may not remember everything now,” Rouge replied.

”Being a demon, isn’t there another way for you to survive? You can enter my dreams, so can’t you live in the dream realm?” Bai Ruozhu asked sorrowfully.

Rouge shook her head with a smile, ”No, I’m leaving, really incapable of staying.”

Her voice faded, her figure drifting away, Bai Ruozhu reached out, calling after her, abruptly waking from the dream.

”What’s wrong? A nightmare?” Jiang Yichun woke up, sat up, and embraced her shoulders.

Bai Ruozhu shook her head, her voice sounding muffled, ”Not a nightmare, Rouge came to say goodbye. The first time I met her, she entered my dream, begging me to save her husband.”

Jiang Yichun listened quietly.

”I asked why she sought me out, she said because she saw I was married, thinking I could understand her desire to save her husband. Now with her and Gong Feng, I understand it well and feel deeply saddened,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Jiang Yichun let her rest her head on his shoulder, softly comforting her, ”You have done much for her. It’s the workings of fate, but at least Rouge left happily, right?”

”Yes, she was always smiling,” Bai Ruozhu replied.

”Let Gong Feng forget everything, maybe one day, Rouge will return. She is a demon, born from the dream realm, perhaps she may be reborn again. When she truly returns, she will find Gong Feng once more.”
