Chapter 2552: Chapter 2553: Luan Xin Is Taken Away

Gong Feng woke up after being in a deep sleep for three days, and as expected, he remembered nothing.

Everyone couldn’t bear to tell him the truth, so they only mentioned that he was captured by an evil Yin Yang Master for demon refining, and Bai Ruozhu and others happened to come across him and rescued him.

”Thank you all.” Gong Feng smiled at each person. His face was handsome, with a somewhat delicate demeanor not often seen in men, his voice was very gentle, and his smile was a bit bashful.

”But why can’t I remember anything? I feel like I’ve forgotten something important.” Gong Feng said with a look of confusion.

Rouge almost burst into tears and quickly found an excuse to move aside.

”After all, you’d been subject to demon refining for so long, causing significant damage. It’s normal to forget things; maybe it’ll get better after a while.” Bai Ruozhu suppressed the discomfort in her heart and offered a few casual words of explanation.

”I understand. I feel that this matter is very important to me. I think I’ll remember soon.” Gong Feng said, smiling again, appearing to be in good spirits.

Right, without memories, there are no worries. How could he be unhappy?

Gong Feng stayed temporarily in the Yard. Everyone feared that if he returned to his previous residence, he might find traces of his past and slowly recall Rouge, so they didn’t tell him where he came from, only saying they rescued him midway, and the Yin Yang Master who refined demons had died. They know nothing about his past.

Gong Feng wasn’t too disappointed and continued to thank everyone, saying he would remember over time.

Yaxi also visited once during these few days, saying she had found the person Bai Ruozhu was looking for.

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun went to have a look. It still wasn’t Diao Bin, just another woman with Albinism.

This woman, however, was older, already twenty-five or six. She’s been unable to marry because of her illness, forced to stay at her parents’ home, doing embroidery work to support herself.

Later, Bai Ruozhu went to visit Master Puru, bringing Jiang Yichun along.

”Later, let the Master also examine you; I want to confirm my suspicions.” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Alright.” Jiang Yichun immediately agreed.

When they met with Master Puru, Bai Ruozhu said, ”Master, could you use your Heart Method to examine both Ah Chun and me?”

Master Puru looked puzzled, ”You are not from the Imperial family; it might be useless.”

”Let’s try first.” Bai Ruozhu replied.

Unexpectedly, Master Puru quickly determined the results and said in surprise, ”Lord Bai, you passed, but Lord Jiang...”

Bai Ruozhu understood and decided not to hide anything from Master Puru, giving a brief explanation.

”The Crown Prince recently secretly engaged in demon refining and even set up an Array to conceal his fortune. That’s probably why you couldn’t detect he was unfit for the role of Heavenly Emperor Candidate.” Bai Ruozhu added.

”Demon refining?” Master Puru displayed a look of anger, ”All beings are equal; he is committing a great sin!”

”Master, rest assured, we have already saved that Demon. I suppose the Crown Prince has nothing left to hide now. If possible, Master, please find another opportunity to test him again.” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Alright, I’ll head to the Palace soon.” Puru said as he got up, appearing anxious.

Jiang Yichun was somewhat worried and said, ”Please, Master, be cautious; once the Merfolk Bloodline awakens, it grants special abilities, he might have discovered something in advance because of it.”

”Alright, I’ll take some people into the Palace and be extra careful.” Puru said.

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun left and went to check on Luan Xin, only to hear from a monk: ”Luan Xin was taken by his family. We thought he was an orphan, but they turned out to be his real family. The abbot couldn’t refuse when they came to claim him, so he agreed to let Luan Xin go.”

”Which family? Are they from Kyoto?” Bai Ruozhu asked in surprise.

”Yes, their surname is Canghe, and the family’s patriarch is still an officer. Luan Xin is his eldest legitimate grandson. It’s said he was swapped out by a jealous concubine at home and replaced with a sick child who was falsely claimed to be stillborn at birth, leading his mother to grieve herself into illness and pass away within half a year.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t believe such things happened. Luan Xin, whose heart was now set on Buddha, was taken back by his family. Is this heaven’s arranged Tribulation for him?

”A concubine that bold shows how lax the Canghe family’s moral standards are.” Jiang Yichun said displeasedly, ”Ultimately, concubines should not be taken.”

The monk couldn’t comment on the family’s marriage choices, so he awkwardly smiled, ”I wouldn’t know. If you want to visit Luan Xin, you’ll have to go to the Canghe family. Luan Xin is young, hasn’t been ordained yet, and doesn’t even need to leave the monastic life. I’ve heard that the Canghe family has few male heirs, so they wouldn’t allow him to become a monk.”

”Let’s go and see.” Bai Ruozhu was a bit worried, even though Master Pudeng was a realized monk in his previous life, and even though he knew clarity of mind, he had always lived in a Buddhist temple. How could he withstand the vicious schemes within those mansions?

The two took a horse carriage, asking the coachman to inquire around, and after two quarters of an hour, they found the Canghe family.

Bai Ruozhu took a glance at the entrance, which was quite grand, certainly regarded as aristocrats in the Capital.

The two got off the carriage, informed the gatekeeper of their purpose, and after a long wait, they were finally led inside.

Bai Ruozhu was displeased, as it was apparent that the Residence did not want Luan Xin to see his friends from his time as a novice monk. If not for the status of Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun, they might not have been able to enter the Main Gate of Canghe’s Residence at all.

They were greeted by a man in his late twenties, yet there was no sign of Luan Xin in the hall.

”Greetings to both envoys, I am Luan Xin’s father. It’s quite a coincidence that the child is acquainted with you two, a strange fate indeed. Unfortunately, he is unwell and can’t meet guests today.” The man bowed and said.

Bai Ruozhu’s face darkened, ”I’m a doctor; why not let me see Luan Xin now, to speed his recovery?”

”No need to trouble Lord Bai. Luan Xin just saw a doctor this morning and took his medicine; it wouldn’t be right to involve too many people. I believe he’ll recover soon, and then I’ll have him formally thank the two of you.” Luan Xin’s father said as he served tea, clearly intending to send them off.

Bai Ruozhu was annoyed but didn’t want to fall out with Luan Xin’s father, so she pulled Jiang Yichun away and left, her robe sleeves fluttering.

”That father of Luan Xin must be out of his mind! Can’t manage his concubine, causing all these issues at home, yet won’t let his son see friends. Is there something wrong with him?” Bai Ruozhu started venting as soon as they walked out of the Residence’s gate.

Jiang Yichun took her hand and said, ”It’s not worth getting angry over such people, besides, can they stop us?”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh. The two of them circled around to the backyard and climbed over the Wall into the Canghe family, wandering around the estate until they finally found Luan Xin in a secluded corner.

”How did you two get here?” Luan Xin was surprised, clearly unaware they had come to visit.

”Your father said you were sick and wouldn’t allow us to see you, so we had no choice but to climb over the wall.” Bai Ruozhu sighed, ”Can you adjust to living here?”
